Requesting tips for afternoon graduation ceremony

Hi everyone! I’m graduating soon and I have a 2pm ceremony. I was wondering if anyone could give some tips on the following:

  1. What time do you recommend guests should get there? I’m not sure how long getting my robe would take, i’m probably going to tell them to come at 12:30 just in case but i’m not sure if it’s too early.

  2. Should I pre-order a frame for my testamur? How long was the process of getting it framed there (and cost?)

  3. It says only an hour for pictures once the ceremony is over (which i’ve seen could end around 3:30). Did you find that was enough time for photos? I’m also considering purchasing my robe but not sure if it’s worth it.

  4. Finally, did you find there were extra tickets available or were they mostly sold out?

Thank you for anyone who replies, i’m just a really bad overthinker 😅

UTS Timed LMS Exam (Canvas)

Hi everyone,

I have an upcoming Law subject final exam conducted as a timed LMS exam through Canvas. This is my first LMS exam, as all my previous exams were AI-proctored using Guardian Browser, so I'm a little confused and nervous about how it works.

Our lecturer has confirmed that we can draft answers in Word and copy-paste them into Canvas answer boxes. I also use Grammarly for writing assistance.

I was wondering whether timed LMS exams use Turnitin similarity checking or AI detection, particularly given concerns about false positives. As i use grammerly in word doc for grammer correction and edits.

I'd really appreciate any clarification from someone familiar with UTS LMS exams.

Thanks in advance!

Diploma student moving into Chemical Process Engineering – keen to hear about your experience

Hi everyone,
I'm currently doing the Diploma of Engineering at UTS College. Once I finish, I'll move into the Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) in Chemical Process Engineering as a second-year student. Because I'm coming in through the pathway, I don't know anyone in the course yet. I'd love to hear from people who are studying it now or have already finished.
A few things I'm curious about:
What is the course actually like? Which subjects were the hardest, and is there anything you wish you'd known before starting?
How did you find your internship in Sydney? Was it through UTS Careers, LinkedIn, someone you knew, or just applying everywhere?
I'm really interested in minerals processing. Are there internships like that in Sydney, or do most people have to go regional or interstate (WA, QLD) for that kind of work?
I'm happy to put in the work, and I'd really like to get to know people in the course. If you're up for a chat or a coffee on campus, let me know.
Thanks for reading!

How to get into an Honours program?

Hey everyone!

I just finished my second year of my Bachelor of Business degree, and I am about to start my 3rd year in 2027, and tbf I can't believe my uni journey will officially end next year lol. And I guess I'm kinda looking for an excuse to still be here cuz I'm totally not ready to face the real world just yet, and also I do legitimately wanna do some more education.

I was initially thinking about doing an honours year all the way at the start of my first year, but unfortunately I didn't achieve a high enough ATAR to get into Bachelor of Business (Honours) in the beginning. But now that I only have 2 semesters left, I reckon I'm ready to apply for an Honours year.

The only thing I am confused about is the process of applying for it while still doing my current Bachelor of Business degree, and I just wanted to hear the opinion of people who have already done it or have been accepted into it as to how to even begin the application process.

In terms of grades, I'm doing alright; so far, I do have a WAM that achieves the minimum of a 'Distinction' but I do believe that after my results get calculated for this semester, my WAM will mostly likely drop a little. If WAM is the only criterion, I guess that's that, but are there any more criteria for getting accepted into an honours year?

Thanks for your help 🙏

Resubmitted assignment day after due date

I was wondering I submitted an assignment last night but realised this morning I had left something out. I understand that submitting an assignment after the due date with give me a 5% penalty but the part I left out is needed so I have to resubmit. If I fix it and then resubmit will they take my most current submission as the one they actually mark or should I email the subject coordinator and explain as well?

I also got a 3 day short extension, will this affect the penalty I get or will it still just be 5% for 1 day late?

UniLodge Ultimo private studio | Student lease takeover | Flexible move-in

Private furnished studio at UniLodge Ultimo, 437 Wattle Street, near UTS and Broadway Shopping Centre. This is a self-contained studio with your own bathroom and kitchenette, not a room in a shared apartment. Student accommodation only, with any takeover subject to UniLodge approval.

I’m graduating and looking for someone to take over my accommodation from around 14 November 2026. The move-in date is negotiable, and my current agreement ends on 4 February 2027.

The advertised $675/week is my current rent, including utilities and Wi-Fi. The rent and terms for an incoming resident must be confirmed with UniLodge.

The studio is furnished and has air conditioning. The building has shared laundry facilities, common areas and resident events. I’ve personally found the room quiet during my stay.

For anyone planning to stay longer: my understanding is that moving in before 30 November 2026 and renewing for one year starting in February 2027 may qualify you for a $749/week renewal rate plus $1,000 credit. The quoted rate for new residents moving in during February is $799/week. UniLodge must confirm eligibility and all offer terms. These rates are separate from the takeover rent before February.

Please message me with your preferred move-in date, intended length of stay and student status. I can then check the applicable rent and arrangements with management.

This is UniLodge Ultimo on Wattle Street, not UniLodge on Broadway. Room photos were taken during my tenancy in 2024; the common-area photo is from October 2026. Personal belongings shown are not included.

UTS Law 1st year

Hi,

I'll be starting the bachelor of laws at UTS next year. In the first semester I'll be studying Foundations of Law, Ethics Law and Justice and Criminal Law and Procedure and then in the second semester I'll be studying Contracts, Torts and Australian Constitutional Law.

I had tried to enrol in summer subjects however was told that I am not able to. I'm getting quite bored waiting for uni to start next year so I wanted to get on here and ask if anyone can recommend anything that I can study over the summer to get myself ready for the first semester subject, or second semester. Books, Documentaries, Court Cases, Articles, Movies etc. ???

Thank you!

Is there any way I can contact the UTS team without using AskUTS?

Hi! Just accepted an offer to UTS animation two days ago and set up an email and everything, but today I'm not able to log in to the student portal? I submitted an enquiry about an RPL form I filled out and was just checking up on it but whenever I try to log in I get a "User is not assigned to this application" popup.
Every time I try to look up an email or anything it just sends me to the AskUTS page which I can't log in to. I can't find any other emails. I haven't finished the full enrolment as I'm still waiting on the RPL form to come back, however I won't be able to finish it if I can't log in.

Is there any other way to contact the team or an email I can use?

Thanks :)

Which major pairs best with Business Analytics major?

Hi everyone! I’m currently an international student in my second year majoring in Business Analytics and am thinking of taking IT as my second major, but I’m worried there might be too much overlap between the two. I’m also considering Marketing or Accounting as an alternative.
For those studying either combination, which would you recommend in terms of employability and career flexibility and which combination do you think will have better career opportunities in the future?
Would love to hear your thoughts and experiences! Thank youu!

Can I take a prerequisite subject and the subject at the same semester?

Hi i’m a nursing student who has failed some subjects in the first year first semester and I need to retake them 2027 first semester, however my second year subjects are being delayed as I failed the subjects in my first year and I wanna know if I could take these failed subjects concurrently with the subjects that require them as prerequisites. I wanna know how lenient they are of my grades were around credit or pass. And what are the chances they will accept my situation? Because I do not wish to delay my degree as if I can’t take these subjects in my second year I will basically only be doing my prerequisites. Also, can I email the subject coordinator or do I have to submit an E-request?

Question about RPL when doing internal course transfer

Hi, I was considering applying for an internal transfer from my current degree (bachelor of medical science) to a bachelor of advanced science. From what I've read, credit transfer seems to occur automatically with previously completed subjects that match with the core subjects of the new degree.

However, I was wondering what would happen with the subjects that I've completed previously that aren't core subjects. I need to keep my electives free for different subjects that will be better suited for the postgrad study I'm interested in, but at the same time there is one subject I completed in medical science that I'd like to have the credit carry over for as an elective.

So TLDR, Is it possible for me to "choose" only one non-core subject credit (from my previous degree) to get carried over an elective when transferring internally into a different degree, or do they all automatically get credited as electives in the new degree? Any advice would be really appreciated :)

Internally transferring courses/enrolment advice

Hello, I've been studying forensic science/law at UTS and applied to business/law via UAC for the purpose of internally transferring.

I received the offer, and accepted the offer through my myStudentAdmin.

I'm just not sure how the actual 'transfer' works and am hoping if anyone with prior experience with this could help?

The notable issue I have is in the subjects and results tabs, it shows 2 separate courses (my previous one, and the newly accepted one, both with the statuses as: admitted).

Both courses with the 'admitted' status

(I have not yet submitted a CSP or a Recognition of Prior Learning form yet for the new course, If I submitted these, would UTS automatically withdraw from the previous course? Or do I have to manually withdraw from the previous course myself after doing the forms for the bus/law course?

Also I'm confused because I was advised that I had to wait a year until I could be eligible for an offer to transfer via UAC, but I got it early? and if I submit an RPL form, how will this account for subjects I'm currently undertaking and have exams for?

I have already emailed UTS 5 days ago about this and will call them tomorrow, but again, I thought it might help if I could get advice from any students who've experienced this :) Any help will be greatly appreciated 🙏

Accounting in Practice (SMJ08195) options gutted for 2027 - what can I substitute?

Hey all,

I’m currently in BBus 2nd year (Finance major) looking to complete the Accounting in Practice sub-major (SMJ08195).

My plan was to finish it with:

  • 22576 Fundamentals of Business Data Analytics (doing now)
  • 26600 Business Internship
  • 22503 Sustainability Reporting and Analysis
  • 22567 Planning and Control for Small Business Enterprises

Study Plan Management just confirmed via eRequest that 22567 has been cancelled/discontinued for 2027. Looking at the remaining options in the sub-major dropdown, most of the actual accounting subjects (22566, 22575, etc.) have no availabilities, leaving only:

  • 21644 Law for Business Professionals
  • 22579 Data Visualisation for Business Communication
  • 22580 Data Ethics and Governance
  • 22619 Consulting Strategy and Communication

None of these are traditional accounting subjects. I definitely don't want to do law or a presentation-heavy consulting unit, and after taking FBDA this semester, I know for sure I don't want to touch any more data analytics or governance subjects either.

What are my actual options here? Can the Accounting Disciplinary Group grant an exemption or manual substitution to pull in a standard, practical accounting unit (e.g. Cost Management Systems) to finish the remaining 6 CPs, or will they insist on one of the four left?

If a substitution isn't an option, what are the best alternative sub-majors to pair with Finance that avoid pure law, data pipelines, and presentation marathons? Any advice (especially from staff or anyone who's dealt with discontinued subjects) would be massively appreciated!

Has anyone done 57304 - The Ethics of Data and AI or 41183 Privacy Preserving?

I’d like to know if they were difficult since they are heavily focused on writing assessments. I’m planning to enroll for next semester
