ask r/Uzbekistan Al-Khwarizmi Specialized School

Hi! I am currently in Khiva. I came here specifically to see the bronze statue of Al-Khwarizmi, the Father of Algebra. Unfortunately, I just found out that it was moved to Shavat a few years ago.

Has anyone successfully visited it from Khiva? Is there a day tour or private driver option available? Thanks so much!

ask r/Uzbekistan Hallo

• Upvotes

I am an Afghan citizen legally residing in Germany. I hold a valid German residence permit and a German Refugee Travel Document (Reiseausweis für Flüchtlinge).

I would like to visit Uzbekistan for approximately 30 days for tourism and to meet my family.

Could you please confirm:

  1. Can I apply for an Uzbekistan e-visa using my German Refugee Travel Document as an Afghan citizen?
  2. Which travel document type should I select on the e-visa application?
  3. If the approved e-visa incorrectly states “Stateless Person Passport,” would I be allowed to travel and enter Uzbekistan?
  4. Is an invitation letter (LOI/Telex) required in my case?

Thank you for your assistance.

ask r/Uzbekistan Thinking About Moving to Uzbekistan Permanently.

Hi everyone! I (28M) am American-Pakistani, married to a Kazakh-Russian (28F). We visited Uzbekistan in August and absolutely loved it.
For the past 3 years, we have been choosing countries where we could move and settle permanently. Our final options were Azerbaijan and Thailand, until we visited Tashkent. It wasn’t even on our bucket list, but after visiting, we loved it a lot!
We visited again in the past 2 months, and now we think Tashkent is the place for us to move permanently.
Firstly, I want to understand how different Uzbekistan is from Kazakhstan. For us, Uzbekistan is already way above Kazakhstan on our list. Despite my wife having a Kazakh passport, we have never really liked Kazakhstan. In our experience, people here can be rude and arrogant, whereas Uzbek people were much warmer and more welcoming.

I have a few questions

Where do people usually look for apartments or houses to rent or buy in Tashkent?
How are Uzbek people towards foreigners who want to settle permanently?
How difficult is it for an American-Pakistani citizen to get a long-term visa or residency in Uzbekistan? Are there any long term visa options? Nomad visa or anything. As my wife and kids wont need. But i would.

I would really appreciate reciate advice from locals and foreigners who have moved to Uzbekistan. Thank you!

Lately I have been interested in learning video editing. And I saw this ad on Instagram where "Edit Maktab" can take me from a beginner to a job-landing level. But the pay is a lil too much for my current position. If anyone studied there, your advice would help a lot.

discussion | muhokama Iran's Embassy in South Africa still hasn't removed its post about Samarkand, despite Uzbekistan's objection

Post image
54 Upvotes

For context, Iran's Embassy in South Africa posted a picture of US Secretary of State Marco Rubio visiting Samarkand, accompanied by a message telling him to choose his words more carefully when speaking about Iran and its people

I am not here to talk about whether Iran has historical and cultural ties to Samarkand. Persian culture has undeniably influenced Central Asia. But using Uzbekistan's cultural heritage as a tool in a political dispute between Iran and the United States does not just sit right with me.

According to reports, Uzbekistan's Foreign Ministry summoned Iran's ambassador and demanded that Iranian diplomatic missions remove the posts in question.

I checked the X account of Iran's Embassy in South Africa, and the post is still there as of October 25.

Uzbekistan is an independent country with its own history, identity, and cultural heritage. Our historical sites should not be used to make political statements at our expense or to imply that our heritage is simply an extension of another country's identity

What do you guys think about this?

Assalamu akaykum!

I’m a girl from Samarkand. I study course at the Tourism Academy and my lessons are after afternoon with break times. I can pray during breaks but I need a place for praying near the Academy or in The Boulevard street. Can you advise any place, please?

ask r/Uzbekistan Inquiry on the translator of Jorge Luis Borges into Uzbek

Hi all.

While researching something completely unrelated I stumbled upon excerpts from Sharif Ahmedov, the guy who, apparently, translated Julio Cortazar, Kahlil Gibran and Jorge Luis Borges into Uzbek (the excerpts are here and here).

There is barely any info on Ahmedov online. There's also barely any info on his book of short stories and essays, which has apparently been translated into English.

I was wondering if anyone here has any pointers.

ask r/Uzbekistan Is it realistic for a 30-year-old Latina Christian woman living in France to marry a younger Uzbek man?

Hi everyone!

I'm a 30-year-old Latina woman living in France, although people usually think I'm around 23–25 based on my appearance.

I'd like to know whether it would realistically be possible for me to meet an Uzbek man under 25 who would be interested in marriage and building a life together in France.

Here is my situation:

- I'm Christian, not Muslim, and I would want a husband who could respect my faith.

- I'm specifically interested in an Uzbek man, ideally someone younger than me.

- I want us to settle in France permanently.

- I'm open to supporting him financially while he gets established in France, including helping him continue his education or return to university if necessary.

- My intention would be a serious relationship leading to marriage, not something casual.

I understand that cultural differences, family expectations, religion, and the age gap could make this complicated. I'm particularly curious about how Uzbek men and their families might view marrying an older foreign Christian woman.

I'd appreciate honest answers from Uzbeks or people who know Uzbek culture well. I'm not looking to stereotype anyone; I simply want to understand whether this is a realistic possibility and what challenges I might face.

Thank you!

discussion | muhokama About themes

Well, I made posts on different themes in this subreddit, but my last post got dislikes. (You can't read or completely ignore it if you don't like it)

Then I got interested in something: you guys still like and give attention to scandals or something? Like, "something bad/big happened" gets most attention, even if it's overexaggerated normal theme. Then I uploaded my latest post about getting free VPN that also blocks ads, and I get dislikes.

I know it's only for tech geeks like me, but this question in my head isn't leaving my brain.

I will wait for your personal opinions, guys 👋
