Review A tale of two providers

• Upvotes

Happy families are all alike; every unhappy family is unhappy in its own way.

Playing around looking for good value I've been trying a few different providers lately. Oxide hosting and Venocix looked like a good value. Let's give them a go!

Venocix KVM rootserver.

YABS

Venocix is great on storage and CPU, but the network is oversold. The price is way too high for such a constrained network. It wasn't of any value to me, so I requested a refund. Support was quick to cancel my server, but I was told they would not be providing a refund. Which is interesting, as that's literally required by German law as they are a German company. Yikes.

Oxide VPS Storage L

YABS

Check out this IOWAIT as it struggles to process some popular torrents.

And how fast are the torrents moving to warrant this disk overload? As much as 5MB/s! Amazing.

While this one has good network connectivity, the storage is pitiful. It's literally the slowest storage I've ever seen outside of a rpi. When I asked support about this they did not respond. That's not a great look either.

I'll continue looking for another host that doesn't oversell. Seems hard to find these days.

Seeking Advice/Support [WTB] GreenCloudVPS 1313 SJC Anniversary Plan (San Jose)

Hi everyone,

I'm looking to buy a GreenCloudVPS 1313 SJC (San Jose) plan from the 13th Anniversary Sale.

The original offer was advertised at $123 for 3 years, with the following specifications:

13GB RAM

113GB NVMe RAID-10 storage

6 fair-share AMD EPYC Milan CPU cores

12TB monthly bandwidth

10Gbps port

I know the plan might be restocked during the anniversary sale, but there is no confirmation yet. I'm still actively looking to buy one, so this WTB post will remain open until I update or close it.

I have the budget ready. Please message me with your asking price, remaining service term, renewal terms, and details of the transfer process.

One thing to mention upfront: I haven't used PayPal to pay a private seller before, so I may need some guidance with the payment process. I would prefer a payment method with appropriate buyer protection, and I'd like to confirm that the transfer is permitted by GreenCloud before proceeding.

If you have a 1313 SJC plan available for transfer, please feel free to message me.

Thanks!

Guides/Tutorials Monitoring multiple apps behind Caddy on a small VPS

Post image
4 Upvotes

I've been experimenting with monitoring multiple applications behind Caddy on a small VPS.

One useful thing about Caddy is that it already sees the HTTP traffic going to your applications. With its built-in per-host metrics, you can track requests, errors, and response latency without modifying each application.

I recently added support for this to StatLite, a lightweight monitoring tool I maintain. It's a single Go binary using around 15 MiB RSS at idle, with SQLite for storing metrics history. It can run on the VPS itself or on your laptop.

I tested the setup with Express and Spring Boot behind the same Caddy instance. Each hostname had its own HTTP history, including injected 404/500 errors and latency changes.

The setup is fairly small: enable per-host metrics in Caddy and add a target for each hostname in StatLite.

Setup guide: https://pvrlabs.xyz/articles/monitoring-applications-behind-caddy.html

GitHub: https://github.com/PVRLabs/statlite

I'm curious how others running a few apps on one VPS approach monitoring. Do you mainly use reverse-proxy metrics, application-specific metrics, or logs?

Industry Insights I think Russian VPS stays invisible because of abuse tags and payments, not demand

My guess is it's mostly an abuse reputation problem. Russian IP ranges get flagged so fast that nobody in the lowend crowd bothers, and the few hosts that exist never get a review pile big enough to trust.

It started as a random shower thought: why do I almost never see a Russian VPS in any "where do I buy" conversation? Then I went looking.

- Reddit: a handful of old threads, most of them asking this same question with no real answers

- LET: a few offers, and the replies are mostly about blacklisted IPs and payment problems

- LES: basically nothing

- VPSIUM: tracks a few dozen providers and I found hardly any Russian ones

So it's either very few, or very bad word of mouth. I know Selectel and Timeweb exist, but I can't find anyone who talks about running a side project on them.

Not asking about politics, just the hosting side. Is it oversubscription, card and crypto headaches for foreign buyers, or is my abuse theory just wrong? If you've run something on a Russian host, what broke first?

BAD EXPERIENCE BuyVM / FranTech has ignored me for 17 DAYS. No support, no refund, absolutely NOTHING. I'm beyond frustrated.

I'm honestly at the point where I'm completely fed up with BuyVM / FranTech, and I feel like people should know what they're potentially getting into before giving this company their money.

On October 8, 2026, I purchased a New York 2 GB VPS with a Path.net DDoS-protected IP. My plan was to use it as a GRE relay for my dedicated server.

I was actually excited to get everything running, but I noticed something concerning while setting things up. My supposedly newly assigned protected IP already had 52 firewall rules and 48 application filters dating back to 2023–2024, long before I even became a customer.

Naturally, I opened a support ticket asking for clarification about these rules, the DDoS protection, and how to properly configure everything.

That was 17 DAYS AGO.

And guess what?

NOT. A. SINGLE. RESPONSE.

Not even a simple "Hey, we're looking into this."

Absolutely NOTHING.

I followed up multiple times. October 9, October 10, October 13, October 16, and October 20.

Every single message has been completely ignored.

And this is what genuinely pisses me off the most: I PAID FOR THIS SERVICE.

I wasn't asking for anything unreasonable. I wasn't demanding instant support or special treatment. I simply wanted answers to legitimate technical questions before routing my dedicated server's traffic through their network.

Instead, I spent days waiting, unable to confidently use the VPS for its intended purpose, while my paid subscription continued running.

By October 13, after FIVE DAYS of being completely ghosted, I'd had enough. I requested a cancellation and refund.

THEY HAVEN'T EVEN ACKNOWLEDGED MY REFUND REQUEST.

It's now October 25.

  • 17 days since I opened the ticket.
  • 12 days since I requested a refund.
  • Multiple follow-ups completely ignored.
  • Zero responses from support.
  • Zero acknowledgment of my cancellation/refund request.
  • A VPS I paid for and never actually used.

How is this acceptable?

I understand that BuyVM is a budget hosting provider. I understand that I'm not paying hundreds of dollars a month for enterprise-level support.

But seriously, does being a budget provider mean you can just completely ignore paying customers for over TWO WEEKS?

I'm not expecting someone to hold my hand through setting up a server. I know what I'm doing. I just needed clarification about THEIR infrastructure and THEIR firewall configuration.

And now I can't even get someone to acknowledge that I want my money back.

It's genuinely infuriating to feel like you've basically thrown your money away and have absolutely no way of getting a response from the company that took it.

At this point, it's not even about how much the VPS costs. It's about the complete lack of respect for a paying customer's time and money.

I've wasted enough time checking this ticket, hoping someone would finally answer.

I'm seriously considering opening a PayPal dispute because I don't know what else I'm supposed to do when the company refuses to communicate.

I've attached a screenshot showing the entire ticket history, with my personal information blurred out.

Has anyone else had this kind of experience with BuyVM / FranTech?

Is this genuinely how they operate, or have I somehow managed to get the most neglected support ticket in their system?

Because after this experience, I honestly don't see how I could ever trust them with anything important.

EDIT / UPDATE (October 26): BuyVM finally responded, apologized, and resolved the situation!

I wanted to provide an update and give credit where it's due.

After bringing this issue to attention on LowEndTalk, Francisco from BuyVM personally responded, apologized for the situation, and explained what had happened.

Apparently, BuyVM moved away from Path.net to Terabit.io for their DDoS protection around September 2026, but their Stallion control panel hadn't yet been updated to reflect the new provider's firewall system.

This explains why I was seeing old Path.net firewall rules and why I couldn't get a clear picture of how the protection was actually configured.

Francisco acknowledged the oversight, and shortly afterward, their support team finally responded to my original ticket.

Here's how they resolved it:

  • Full refund issued for my original VPS purchase.
  • A brand-new VPS provided completely free until December 1, 2026, with the option to renew or cancel afterward.
  • A sincere apology from their support team for losing track of my ticket.
  • Confirmation that they're working on integrating Terabit.io's firewall management into Stallion.

I genuinely appreciate Francisco stepping in and the team going beyond what I originally requested. I only wanted my money back, so offering a free VPS on top of the refund was a nice gesture.

Does this excuse 18 days without a response? No. I still believe that kind of delay is unacceptable, regardless of the provider's pricing.

But I also believe in being fair and recognizing when a company takes responsibility and makes things right.

Credit where it's due: BuyVM acknowledged their mistake and handled the resolution professionally.

Thanks to everyone who offered constructive advice and helped bring attention to the situation. Hopefully, their upcoming Stallion improvements will prevent similar issues for other customers.

For me, this issue is now resolved.

Seeking Advice/Support Looking for a VPS exchange partner (Russia ↔ Europe) for a full-tunnel VPN setup

Hey everyone!

I'm a Russian developer and network/IT engineer working on a personal full-tunnel VPN project.

I'm looking for someone who has a VPS hosted in Europe (ideally Spain, Germany, Netherlands, or France) and would be interested in exchanging VPN access.

Minimum VPS requirements:

  • 1 vCPU
  • 2 GB RAM
  • 10 GB SSD
  • Public IPv4 address
  • SSH access
  • Linux (Ubuntu/Debian preferred)

What I can offer in return:

I already have my own VPS hosted in Russia, and I'm happy to provide reciprocal access to it.

The idea is simple: I can route my traffic through your European VPS, and you can route yours through my Russian VPS.

I'm planning to use WireGuard or Xray/VLESS with full-tunnel routing. We can set up isolated VPN accounts without sharing root passwords or sensitive credentials.

This is a personal, non-commercial project. I'm also exploring the idea of building an open-source platform where VPS owners could exchange VPN exit-node access across different countries.

Does anyone know of an existing community for this kind of exchange? Or would anyone be interested in testing it together?

Happy to discuss the technical details!

Seeking Advice/Support Projects to sponsor

Hello,

I offer servers in Brazil and am looking for projects to support by providing server resources.

Currently, I am already supporting some DNS and Tor relay node projects.

Ideally, these should be open-source projects.

(if this isn't allowed on the r/, I apologize and will delete the thread)

I've a small service that's deployed to Hostinger currently, but with certain outages and reliability, I want to make sure we have good redundancy across providers. What VPS providers exist out there which price-wise are similar to Hostinger, with good credibility?

Seeking Recommendations I need advice on choosing VPS services

I'm looking for a VPS to host my game server.

My game only has around 14 concurrent players, but whenever all 14 players send requests at the same time, the server experiences significant delays (around 7–8 seconds). However, when only one player is connected, everything runs very smoothly.

My current VPS specifications are:

  • **CPU:** 4 cores
  • **RAM:** 8 GB
  • **Storage:** 50 GB SSD
  • **Network:** 1 Gbps

I'm not sure what specifications I should be looking for to handle this workload efficiently.

Could anyone recommend a reliable VPS provider with good performance, stability, and responsive customer support, especially if I need to upgrade my server in the future?

I'd also appreciate any advice on whether this issue is related to my VPS hardware or something else, such as server optimization.

Seeking Recommendations Looking for a reliable Storage VPS alternative to Contabo for a production mail server (uptime is my priority)

I’m currently using a Contabo Storage VPS (3 vCPU, 8 GB RAM, 400 GB SSD) for a production mail server hosting lots of customer mailboxes.

My main priority is uptime and reliability, not performance.

Although I haven’t faced any major issues with Contabo yet (except once finding my VPS unexpectedly powered off), the numerous reports of downtime, poor reliability, and slow support responses make me uncomfortable continuing to host a production mail server there.

What I’m looking for:
- 3 or 4 AMD vCPU cores
- 8 GB RAM
- 400 GB+ SSD storage
- Excellent uptime and responsive support

Price won't be a problem for me as uptime really matters.

I’m struggling to find providers offering large SSD storage without bundling unnecessary CPU cores and RAM.

I know no provider can guarantee 100% uptime, but with so many active mailboxes, I need something I can trust.

Any recommendations? I’m also open to VPS + block storage solutions if they’re more reliable.

BAD EXPERIENCE Problem with Contabo VPS

I purchased a Cloud VPS 4 (4 vCPU, 8 GB RAM, 100 GB SSD) from https://contabo.com to set up a Linux development environment with VS Code that I could access and use directly from my iPad.
However, SSH connections through Termius keep failing, even though the VPS desktop works through VNC.
How can I troubleshoot the SSH connection and configure the VPS so I can reliably code from my iPad?

Seeking Advice/Support No response from Netcup

Hey, I need to migrate my services to a more powerful server, and after reading your advice, I decided to switch from Contabo to Netcup. I purchased the server yesterday morning, paid for it, and haven’t heard anything since. I haven’t received any login credentials; I’ve submitted two support tickets and haven’t even gotten a confirmation. Has anyone else experienced this kind of behavior from them?

Seeking Recommendations Need a VPS for trading

I had a VPS with netcup hosted in US. Binance recently decided to add US to a restricted list, so they are refusing connections from the VPS. but allowing EU.

I need to move it to EU but netcup no longer has the same offer. (8vcpu, 64GB ram, 1TB). it was the G12 and they revised the prices and made it G12.5

I signed and paid for leaseweb but it's been 2 days and still waiting for the welcome email; at this level of support I think I will regret it. I also read that they refuse to sell to individuals so they will probably reject me eventually.

contabo seems to be sketchy aswell.

What are my options?

at minimum I need decent cpu (4+ core), 32GB+ ram (more is better), 500GB storage

Priority is more RAM and minimum 500Gb storage.

Preferably in Frankfurt.

Budget is under EUR 40 / month.

Let me know if you guys have any recommendations.

Update: After looking around, I went with VPS 8000 G12.5 (16 vcore, 64GB, 1TB SSD for EUR 60)

Cancelled that and got a dedicated server from hetzner.

On a Budget I want a cheap VPS where I can actually develop.

(found my solution, leaving this post open for others to see in future)

as the title said, I want a cheap VPS provider to develop on, mostly run AI agents(free on opencode like deepseek and glm) and neovim to write/review code and build my personal projects, my computer only has 4gb ram and I can’t quite get a new one, please list best 10 in your opinion, I can’t quite afford anything more than $10/monthly unfortunately.
