Fathers custody rights in Ohio
I'm a Columbus area dad of two and my wife and I are separating after 8 years of jointly parenting our children. I work nights at a distribution company, and they're using that against me to argue against equal parenting time. My wife works during the day and insists the children spend the week with her.
I get where she is coming from, but I’ve always been responsible for picking the kids up from school, helping them with homework, taking them to appointments, and feeding them as needed while being home at night. My mom lives close by and sometimes takes care of the children.
It’s impossible to quit my job or pay an attorney thousands of dollars right now, but on the other hand I don’t want to accept a schedule where I only have access to my children every other weekend.
For those fathers in Ohio who have had issues with custody while working nights, what did your parenting plan look like? Did the court recognize your actual involvement or was your work schedule the pivotal factor?
