QUESTION Vail employee housing

Looking for advice on how likely getting staff housing with Vail is now?

I have applied for accommodation and am waiting for a response, the role is in the mountain operations team.

I’ve read through previous posts and looks like mountain operations tend to get accomodation but not until dec, is this true? Should I book a place to stay in the meantime? Should it be near Whistler village?

Thanks in advance!

QUESTION Will the lifts open and close an hour later now without daylight savings time?

Daylight is obviously in short supply for a good chunk of the ski season and now without daylight savings time the sun will rise and set an hour later. Surely this will impact the lift operating times to some extent as I can't imagine them sending people up the gondola in the dark. Anyone have any inside information on this? Or perhaps something has already been announced that I missed?

Monthly Parking

Hypothetically speaking, if you could pick any monthly parking lot in Whistler, reserved or unreserved, and cost/availability was not an issue, which lot would it be and why?

QUESTION What is the perfect 4 day itinerary when visiting Whistler?

I am planning to go to Whistler for the first time to celebrate my birthday in December. I have only started skiing recently in the last two years and I am self taught so I am planning to only ski one day and stick to the bunny hills when I do, but Whistler seems like it has a lot to do outside of just skiing.

What are some other “must do” things I should plan for while I am there to celebrate my birthday? I already am planning to go to the Grey Goose vodka tasting room, but I am looking for the best restaurant/dining suggestions, shopping suggestions, bars/nightlife, maybe Christmas time events since it will be December, and maybe even some good spa suggestions if they have them? And then for skiing, what are the best bunny hill runs for beginners who are just finally making it off the magic carpet? Looking forward to hearing all of the ideas of what to do while I am there, I am going Thursday-Sunday and my birthday itself is on that Friday!

Mountain opening times

With permanent DST, what time do you think the mountain will be open? And will it be shifted forward towards the end of the season, defeating the point of permanent DST?

Impark

My wife is handicapped. We have a handicap permit and wherever we are in the province, we have been able to park for free. This week, had a medical appointment at the Medical Center here on Lorimer Road, prked in a designated handicap spot with displayed permit. Received a $90 Impark ticket. I contacted customer service. They said it may be a practice everywhere else BUT not for them and pay the $90...Its hard enough navigating with someone who is physically challenged.

Longhorn Salon - Best Time

I’m planning a big group apres, what is the best start time and table type to book? I am guessing patio is more fun than inside. For the time, I see there is a night seating after apres which also seems like a party, but would guess apres is the best? Is it better to get to the apres later (like 3:30) so you can get a taste of both?

Astra Lumina in Whistler

I see that Astra Lumina is coming to Stanley Park in Vancouver for the first time starting in late October. Reviews out of Seattle are mixed, and I was wondering what the Whistler event was like. One of my concerns is that it’s put on by Fever, who don’t have the greatest reputation as event promoters. Thanks in advance for any comments.

How much sun does your house in Whistler really get? Find out here:

darkesthouse.ca/whistler

I first made this for Squamish and got a bunch of requests to add Whistler, so here it is. It’s completely free, I’m not making any money off it, and I just want it to be a fun thing for people to play with. Type your address and it shows when the sun actually clears the mountains around your house, how many hours of direct sun you get, and how that compares with the rest of town, for any day of the year.

I need your help though. The data for Whistler is thinner than for Squamish. Addresses and buildings come from public maps, so some may be missing or in the wrong spot. The LiDAR is from 2016, so newer houses and trees aren’t in it. It also doesn’t cover the hillsides, so about 660 homes up in Whistler Cay Heights, Brio, Emerald Estates, Blueberry Hill, Spring Creek and Kadenwood only get an estimate and aren’t ranked. If your address or neighbourhood looks off, tell me and I’ll fix it :)

QUESTION Snowboard/ski season questions.

So I’ve gotten into snowboarding last year. Last year I did park city. Day 1, 1st timer started with a green & immediately went to blues! My birthday is Jan. 9th so I’ve made it a thing to go snowboarding for my birthday every year from now on. I wanted to try Whistler next. How is the snow if any in January. I literally got lucky in January with park city bc it finally snowed the whole week leading up to my birthday. Before wasn’t any snow. Thought I was going to have to cancel.

But yea I just wanted to know some of you that’s experienced it or live there prediction before I book my trip this weekend.

Oh yea and outside of snowboarding, me and my gf like to kinda party so is there a good nightlife in the village? Planning on getting an Air bnb in Whistler village where we could walk to the lifts.

Prix Fixe menus available on weekends

Hello there, I'm visiting this weekend with my Partner for our anniversary. We are looking to sample some good cuisine and have heard that some restaurants offer good set menus around this time of year.

Are there any in particular who do so on weekends, Friday or Saturday and any people would recommend?

Also any thing else of interest on in whistler this weekend worth checking out? I'm aware it is shoulder season and it's quieter.

Thanks for any help.

Racoons

Am visiting Whistler later this week for a few days. Am desperate to see a wild Racoon as have never seen one (no Trash Pandas in my home country).

Is there any place locally where I've got a high chance of spotting one? Any other sites which are good for wildlife? Would also like to see a Bear - albeit at a safe and respectful distance!

Thanks!

Day pass bought in advance - when does the price get hiked?

The whistler day passes for winter 26/27 are currently 65% off. From what I can see from previous years, the discount will get pulled sometime in November and they will go completely off sale in December.

For planning purposes does anyone know where I can find the date that day pass prices will go up. I've seen the 19th November somewhere - does that sound accurate?

QUESTION Staff accommodation whistler

I just got my staff accomm for whistler 27f through vail at westside. I’ve read mixed reviews because of the location, anyone got any advice/been there? I’m going solo so meeting social people is a priority and I’m just worried about being really out of the loop with the socialising/fun of the season.
