General Traffic police entering your car

I’m so upset. Three traffic police officers became verbally aggressive when I asked why it was necessary for them to get into my car. Mind you, the police station was literally 50 metres away from the traffic light where they stopped me (I went straight when I should have gone left).

They wanted to charge me with dangerous driving, which is an offence that can result in your car being impounded. This happened in Ndola.
Eventually, they used the fact that it was an impoundable offence and that they would take the car as an argument to get into my car. I was shaking and gave up because I’m not from Ndola and had no one there to help me.

But it just shocked me that they could be so offended and aggressive over something that, as far as I understand, they’re not even allowed to do.
I know I was in the wrong, and I acknowledged my traffic offence immediately when they explained it to me, by the way. But it was just excessive. And there is literally nothing you can do.

Sorry i know there was a post about this a few months ago but just had to vent!

General ZAMBIANS AND VEHICLES

Hello everyone, is hooking car keys around the belt strap a marketable way locals would like to let everyone know that they have a vehicle? I've noticed a lot of men in Zambia do that.

What is the best funeral cover that is affordable that covers the whole malilo ? What kind of rates does one pay ? I know FSG does have cover but i ak trying to explore other options. I am trying to avoid a gofundme situation of begging for donations and want everything covered.

Also why are people so superstitious when it comes to funeral cover. I was told by an elderly relative ati iwe ufuna kuti paya after i told them i want to buy a family plot ku memorial park. Death is expensive and i don’t like surprises and no one lives forever.

Ask r/Zambia What is The Office of the President all about?

I would generally like to know about The Office of the President as a citizen of Zambia (don't clear me please, maybe deport). Whenever this topic comes up irl, it seems there's a lot of misinformation and I honestly just want to getter a clearer picture.

Here are my questions;

- What is The Office of the President (Ma Shushushu) all about?

- How do you enlist to Office of the President? Do you get recruited off the street or from other security institutions like the police or military?

- What type of qualifications and qualities do they look for? Like would you need to know multiple languages?

- What's the day to day like? I imagine it isn't just riding along in presidential mortorcades, keeping track of political and national threats and ordering "Jameson IPA, shaken not stirred" at bars.

- How does one end up being on their radar as a threat? Like if I say "The president poo-poos sometimes" on public platforms, will I be on the blacklist or it's only for like..actual threats?

- Is all of this classified? Will I find a Cyanide Pill in my lunch today?

In would be nice to hear from an actual officer since reddit is anonymous👀 but it's really open to all if you've heard information or stories on it.

Ask r/Zambia Title: How do Zambian traders manage their profits and invest their money?

• Upvotes

Hey guys, I’m 18M from Zambia, and I’m curious about how people here manage their money from trading.

For those who trade forex, memecoins or crypto, where do you put your profits? How much do you keep in your bank account, Binance, or mobile money? Do you pay tax on your profits, and how does that work in Zambia?

I also want to start investing for the long term instead of just trading. For those who invest in stocks, how do you choose which companies to buy? Do you invest in companies listed on LuSE, and how can someone in Zambia buy international stocks like Coca-Cola?

I’m still learning, so I’d appreciate hearing from people with actual experience. How do you manage your money, protect your profits, and grow your wealth over time?

Ask r/Zambia Why did we stop being matrilineal?

I heard precolonial times most of Zambia was matrilineal with exception of ngoni people who were patrilineal and lozi who were bilatrilineal. Why aren't we matrilineal anymore? The mother's line is objectively more important because she's the more active parent in most cases, wouldn't it be better?

Politics Are we really free?

Post image
26 Upvotes

Saw this post on instagram and immediately went to check out what they were referring to.

I found that section 1 of the act establishes that:
Northern Rhodesia would cease to be a British protectorate on 24 October 1964.
The territory would become an independent republic called Zambia.
Queen Elizabeth II would no longer have jurisdiction over Zambia.

BUT

Section 2 addresses how existing laws would continue operating following independence!

Something to think about as we celebrate our so called independence.

Edit: Just want to say that despite my research I’m a lay person so I am open to being corrected.

General Unsolicited financial advice i regret

If there is one thing i regret is getting unsolicited advice from Zambians who told me to invest in ma flat. Everytime i visvited Zambia they would tell me mwana your friends are building you will come back and find the land is finished so l rushed to invest and regret it. Apa i am on my last point before i lose it dealing with Zambian tenants and the issues they come with. Like many of us i fell for the okie doke of ‘ mwana just build ma flats you will be making ‘manneh(money). Right now 1 tenant is on the run with arrears the other is complaining about ma repairs. I thought once you build flats you just sit back and enjoy the rentals now I am financially fighting for my life and considering selling and investing elsewhere. I am open to financial advice on investing in something where i can put my money in and retire in my 50’s without the need to pay junkies to beat up tenants

General Christianity is to blame for the underdevelopment of Zambia/Africa!

This is a statement that's become popular, you hear it all the time. To me this statement is one of the most unintelligent ones a person can have and I'll lay out why.

Firstly, Christianity is a religion, it is not a substitute nor a synonym for development, innovation, strong institutions etc. It has to do at its core with the spiritual life of individuals and might have some positive effects in that realm.

Now, can it be used for nefarious purposes? Of course, just like any other ideologies, but to blame it for the failures of Zambia/Africa is absurd. The evidence being the countless other "Christian" or Christian majority countries that are developed.

Our underdevelopment is due to our mindset, ultimately a religion is shaped by the people who embrace it not the other way around. A large portion of the south korean people embraced Christianity and are still an advanced economy, likewise if today the Japanese were to become Christians and Zambians become atheists, It would not magically turn Zambia to an advanced economy and japan to a poor one.

The biggest hindrance to our development is our mindset, hence we build weak institutions. Solely putting the blame on all sorts of external factors does nothing to alleviate the problem. Only a change in our people's mindset will ultimately lead to us building strong institutions and breaking the bonds of poverty.

General A genuine concern, Nandos

Am I the only one that has been getting charged for sharing sides? Anytime I order 1/4 and chips I see they’ve upsized the chips or they’ve upsized the rice by themselves.

It’s so frustrating, I hope I’m not the only one they’ve done that to.

The part in the movie when Clark first enters the backrooms and finds the caveman greeting him in different languages, you can hear a man greeting him in Chi Nyanja. Caught it the 2nd time I watched it. Good movie.

hi all, I’m a tourist in Zambia and tonight is my last night here. I also kno it’s independence day and the Jameson festival is going on but unfortunately they said they’re sold out of tickets. does anyone kno anything fun going on besides that tonight? I am in livingstone so it has to be local to here. I don’t really drink btw so it has to be something that involves music, dancing, hookah/ shisha, etc.

Activities Stand-up comedy spots/bars in Lusaka

Hey everyone, I’m looking to check out some live stand-up comedy around Lusaka, but I'm trying to figure out where the good spots or open mic nights are. Does anyone know where I can catch live comedy or open mic nights around town? Ideally looking for spots that aren't too heavy on the bar scene or alcohol vibe, but I'm open to whatever's out there. Let me know your recommendations!

Ask r/Zambia Hour glass and Pear shaped women in corporate, how are you managing?

I am a pear shaped 24 year old working in corporate and my experiences with women have been astonishing. The passive aggressive statements about my body e.g "So just because I don't have big boobs and a big bum like her you ignore me" , the passive aggressiveness in general from both genders because I am not who they perceive me to be and have the sheer audacity to be myself, the women want me to shrink myself and they rage bait me but turn me into the villain when i withdrawal access, the men, even the married ones, want full access to me, they want me to entertain them and welcome their inappropriate sexual jokes. This has been my experience at all my workplaces so far. How do you guys deal with this? Genuinely, I withdrawal, I'm the villain, I respond, they knew i was a B**ch.
