Growing up, I never knew a lot about Muhammad Ali, besides his famous picture. Lately I’ve been doing a deep dive on him, and I’m truly astonished. I had absolutely no idea how intelligent, outspoken, & relatable he was. 5 minutes into hearing an interview of the man, and I was totally flabbergasted how well-spoken he was compared to 99% of celebrities today. For whatever reason, I had always heard/assumed he was part of the “black Muslim” during the civil rights movement along with Malcom X. This is actually a huge contradiction that HE HIMSELF had to correct numerous times - and I learned he was just A black man (who happened to be) Muslim. I don’t want to comment on his controversies like calling white men devils, being against race-mixing, or refusing to go to Vietnam resulting in him being stripped of.. everything for 4 years. I also had absolutely no idea how impressively consistent he was in his faith throughout pretty much the entirety of his life. I had always assumed a famous man of his status must’ve been a huge partier or socialite, similar to most celebrities today. But Muhammad Ali was totally devoted to his Islam faith first and foremost always, and wasn’t very interested in worldly manners like partying or politics at all. He even said he doesn’t even like boxing all that much, but his goal was to do it to promote black America globally, inspire people to be great, and most importantly (to him) use his fame as a way to reach other black Americans towards Islam or God. Suddenly I had a terrifying realization questioning how I could have been so misinformed & had so many misconceptions on arguably one of the most famous men of our recent modern era, similar to Michael Jackson status. If I was already so unaware of one of the most famous people from just 50-60 years ago, what does that say about how pretty much nothing relating to our current era will be remembered in 100-200+ years from now? or worse, misinformed people (like how I was totally misinformed on Muhammad Ali‘s character) could totally rewrite history based on false facts or things that weren’t even accurate at the time!

29M. Still in the house I grew up in. Went to uni in my hometown so didn’t leave then either. Goal was to build a nest egg, feels like I’m there but kinda hard to tell with prices going up every year. Drew a line the sand to leave at 30 though, so that’s what I’m doing, and I’m very excited!
How’s everyone else doing?

Just found out my cholesterol is slightly elevated for no reason (eating well, exercising 5x a week) so that's cool. I'm literally in the best shape of my adult life outside of that. I'll be getting more testing soon to figure out if its due to predisposition.

I came across this online and got instant nostalgia thinking about playing with this as a kid, with all the different colored game cartridges. I never see anyone talk about these, though. Was I the only one who owned one?!

Are these more mid-to-late gen z books? Or, were they popular with late millennials and early gen z?
Late end millennial. I know of both. I never read them, though.
The first Captain Underpants actually came out in 1997. But, I always took Captain Underpants to be "That weird book that was always on my grade school's shelf". Maybe it was more popular with boys? It wasn't until the movie came out that I realized Captain Underpants wasn't even a kid in tighty whiteys. He is the school's principal.
Diary of A Wimpy Kid came out when I was in middle school. But, I knew of the books because my elementary school reguarly played Funbrain in Computer class.
As a tween and young teen, I thought of the series as a weird thing for little kids. The films aired on Cartoon Network all the time and I hated them. The only Diary of A Wimpy Kid book I had growing up was "The Wimpy Kid Do-It-Yourself Book" because an uncle gifted it to me.
I think, if I had known about them at the time, I might have read Dork Diaries. It looks a lot more interesting. Alas, the first book came out when I was a teen. The protagonist is 14, but the books themselves are for younger kids.

Being born in the 90’s, I would be considered a millennial but I am literally on the cusp of being a GenZ. I grew up when 9-11, the Great Recession and the advent of social media were taking place . At the same time, I can relate to a lot of GenZ’s growing up in an economically challenging time. I don’t really feel like I have much to talk about or can relate much to someone who was born in early 80’s who probably have kids who are GenZ’s now and are much further along career wise and were growing up in a less economically challenging time.
I don’t own a home, I am not married, I don’t have kids and I am full on in academia which is something that GenZ’s are more commonly doing these days which is why the whole label of generations I feel like are quite arbitrary. I don’t have any close friends who grew up in the early 80’s and most of my close friends tend to around GenZ age.
Boomers still see me as the younger generation and still like to complain about the younger generation which has been going on since antiquity and even before that!
So yeah, I don’t know how do you feel but I am very curious to know if you feel like you have more in common with older Millennials or GenZ’s? or do you have more friends who are older millennials or GenZ’s?

Every Wednesday I would go to my friend’s house after school, and she would have to practice her instrument for thirty minutes each day after coming home.
So, I was allowed to play on their computer. I was allowed to play Snood or Sims.
And niw all this time later. I seriously can’t believe it’s thirty! It’s also a free app, and I love playing it. (Not an ad, I just wish it would come back in popularity bc it’s so fun and I feel like most people forgot about it?)

I (high school class of 2014) got mine in 6th grade (without my parents knowledge and my older sister found out and told on me but I managed to convince my parents to let me keep it and blocked her and my brother). Isn’t it crazy to think we were like writing code on there? Didn’t even realize it at the time but it’s funny to look back on how devoted we were to designing those profiles and the trends.
