Wild Mushroom Foraging?

I know many Poles love mushrooms as much as I do and I am curious how popular foraging is.

Is it something average people do on public or private land? Do people hike or camp in the wilderness with the intent of harvesting mushrooms?

What are some of your favorite wild varieties and how do you eat them?

School grades in Poland.

Hello! I am from Asia and I am going to study at a Polish university. I would be interested to know how important school grades are for university admission. And also how heavy the study load is. < This means whether you will be able to freely do your own thing or will be completely focused on your studies.

Which AI actually sounds like a real Polish person? Gemini, ChatGPT or Claude?

• Upvotes

for polish speakers here, been using ai to write stuff in polish for me and its always correct but sounds weird and stiff like straight up translated from english, no real person talks like that lol

anyone actually compared gemini vs chatgpt vs claude for polish? which one sounds the most like how people actually talk, with slang and casual stuff and all that, not textbook polish

would appreciate any input thx

Recommendations for Dog Cataract Surgery / Veterinary Ophthalmologist in Poland

Hi everyone,

I’m looking for recommendations for a great veterinary ophthalmologist in Poland who performs canine cataract surgery. My dog has developed a cataract in one eye, and I’m planning to get it corrected this year.

If your dog has gone through cataract surgery (especially in Poland), I would love to hear about your experience!

  • Which clinic or specialist did you use, and would you recommend them?
  • How was the post-op recovery process and follow-up care?
  • Overall, did you feel the surgery was worth it for your dog's quality of life?

Any advice, doctor recommendations, or tips on preparing for the procedure would be greatly appreciated.

Help w/ rental agreement

Hello! I’ve come to you for help,
Right now I have a contract of rental for an apartment from May 2026-2027, it was a renewal and around July 26, my landlord told me that there were some outstanding bills that should be paid, long story short it was around 3k PLN about charges of the main building, taxes (his taxes) , basically things that were not corresponding to me.

At that point I paid to not have any problems but I started to look for better options, now I have but I talked with him to terminate the agreement earlier, but he told me that the only way would be to find someone to take my contract and thats it.

Im a foreigner so i’m not really sure if that would be the only way to do it, and I would not want to have any legal issue with him that could affect me in the future, do you have any suggestion??

Thanks!!

Speed limit rural road/country driving

While driving between villages the speed limit often is 90 km/h or a bit less, but 90% of drivers ecept truck drivers, drive minimum 120 km/h. You instanly get overtaken if you drive 90 km/h even if you drive more they still will. There are also barely any radars. Is speeding so common in Polska especially in zachodnio pomorskie.

Wing Turbines

Hi, I live in the Czech-Polish border region. (Upper Silesia) I like to ride my bike to Poland, and it’s impossible not to notice the wind turbines.

And over the past year, a massive campaign has taken off in the Czech Republic claiming that wind turbines ruin the landscape, kill animals, drive up inflation, and make people gain weight. (The last two are jokes.)

So most referendums on construction end in failure.

Is there the same campaign over there in Poland, or is it just here?

How can a foreigner land an IT job in Poland? Looking for advice

I’m a foreigner currently living in Poland, and I’m trying to build my career in IT here.

I have an IT background and have been working on improving my technical skills, but I’m finding it challenging to understand the best way to get hired in the Polish job market.

For those who are foreigners working in IT in Poland, I’d really appreciate your advice.

  • Which job platforms or recruitment agencies helped you find your first IT job?
  • Is it difficult to get hired without speaking Polish, especially for IT support or system administration roles?
  • Do employers generally prefer candidates who already have experience working in Poland?
  • What technical skills or certifications would you recommend focusing on?
  • Is it better to apply directly on company websites or through LinkedIn?

I’m especially interested in hearing from people who started their IT careers in Poland as foreigners.

Any honest advice, personal experiences, or tips would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Christmas markets in Poland in January

Hello,

I'm currently looking for locations all over central and eastern Europe where I could potentially visit during early January (first week). I've never been to Poland and I was thinking to visit one of your main cities Warsaw, Krakow or Wroclaw. I would love the main Christmas market to still be opened on the first week of January.

I've seen various sources on Internet : some are saying the market in Krakow will close the 1st of January, while I've also read "the 2026/27 market is set to run from November 27, 2026 to January 6, 2027, based on the city’s pre-season planning". Do you guys know at what date is the market going to close exactly?

What about the Christmas market in Wroclaw? This one, I believe, is set to close on January 6, which would be perfect for me. Is the city nice to visit as a tourist in January and in general? Is the Christmas market in itself worth a visit?

I wouldn't stay more than 3-4 days in Poland, which is why I plan to visit only one city there.

Thanks in advance!

How to make money in Poland?

Hello everyone!! I'm a 20 year old exchange student, and I will be studying in Poland for the next 5 months. I've been here for nearly a month, and everything has been great so far. My only concern is that I might start to struggle financially soon. My parents keep asking me if i need money, but I don't want to be a burden to them as they've already sent me money several times. I'm trying to save money as much as I can, but something seems to be coming up every other day. I was wondering if there's anything I can do to earn some pocket money in Poland. I've done a little research and found out that I'm not able to dogsit since I'm not a Polish citizen. Is there anything else I can do?

Foreigners in Poland, how did you manage to get your first job?

Hi everyone,
I'm studying for a Master's degree in Business Management in Poland. At the same time, I'm also studying a postgraduate program in Finance and Accounting.
A little bit more about my background:
English: C1
Japanese: JLPT N1
Polish: A2 (I can understand quite a bit when listening, but I'm still struggling to speak)
Excel: Advanced level
Both of my programs are in the evenings or on weekends, so I'm quite flexible during regular working hours. This year I started looking for an internship, but I'd also be open to a full-time entry-level or junior position if I get the opportunity. However, I've been applying for almost 10 months now, and I rarely get any responses. Sometimes I managed to get interviews through referrals from friends, I made it to the final round, only to be asked very specific, technical questions. Honestly, I wasn't expecting internship candidates to be tested on such detailed knowledge, although perhaps my expectations were unrealistic.
I've also heard that the job market in Poland is quite difficult right now, even for Polish candidates. I understand that being a foreigner who doesn't speak Polish fluently makes things more challenging, but I don't know what else I should do at this point.
I don't know whether I'm doing something wrong, whether my expectations are unrealistic.
**For other foreigners who have been through something similar in Poland, how did you eventually break into the job market?**
Did you focus on learning Polish first, getting additional certifications, networking? If you work in finance or accounting, I'd especially appreciate hearing about your experience.
I'm not expecting anyone to hand me a job. I just want to understand what actually works and what I should focus on to improve my chances.
And please, I'd really appreciate advice other than telling me to go back to my home country. My husband is here, and staying in Poland is important to me.🥺
Thank you to anyone who takes the time to share their experience. Even a little bit of practical advice would mean a lot to me right now.❤️

Moving to Poland (Gdańsk) on B2B: real cost of living for a couple & quality of life feedback?

Hi everyone!

My partner and I are planning to move to Gdańsk in the coming months. I’ll be working remotely under a B2B contract (Ryczałt tax regime).

We’d love to get some real feedback from people living in Poland regarding the financial aspects and general lifestyle for a couple:

  1. Housing (High Standard): We are looking for a modern 3-room apartment (living room + 2 bedrooms) in a newly built building, well soundproofed, with a balcony/terrace and a garage parking spot. What is a realistic total monthly cost (including czynsz and winter utilities) for this standard in major cities / Gdańsk?
  2. Couple's Living Expenses: What would you consider a comfortable monthly net budget for a couple to live very well (high-quality groceries, eating out often, gym/wellness, weekend activities, and occasional trips)?
  3. B2B / JDG Experience: For those running a B2B sole proprietorship (JDG), how has your experience been with taxes, administration, and overall business environment?
  4. General Quality of Life: What are the main pros and cons you’ve experienced living in Poland as an expat / long-term resident?

Any insights or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!
