What is the current Berlin senate situation?

Hey!

So we had the elections in September and I see on the news that there are still discussions to form a government coalition. In the meantime is Kai Wagner still the official mayor or was he dismissed upon the election results? Did the new elected members of the parliament had any session yet aside from coalition talks behind closed doors? If not, does that mean the former members are still in office until then? Until a government is finally agreed, can decisions still be taken? If so by whom?

It's the first time I experienced elections in Berlin so I am not 100% aware of how it works after the vote.

Thanks!

Heating system makes annoying sound - Advice needed

Hello everybody, me and my partner have been living in a new apartment close to Weißensee since February. We live in the 4th floor which is also the last one in our building. Our bedroom has a pipe coming from the corner of our floor and connects to two Heizkörpers in a line and then the pipes continue to our living room through the wall that connect to another two Heizkörpers there. Then the rest of the pipes which I guess they are for the extraction of the water, come back to the bedroom and exit down the floor next to the pipe that is coming up.
Here is the issue:
From February until April we had the heating system on and especially during the night we were hearing a very annoying and quite noticeable high pitch noise like a kettle being hot on a stove. It is very consistent and doesn’t have any drops in rhythm or tone and makes us wake up during the night. We also sometimes hear loud metal noises from the pipes like someone is hitting on the pipes which we assume is our downstairs neighbours.
Back then I called for a technician to come from our Hausverwaltung and after he came he said that the systems in our bedroom is fine and it might be our downstairs neighbours issue that makes our pipes make this annoying noise. Unfortunately that sae period the technician came we stopped using the heating at the same time so we never really tested if something changed.
Fast forward to now, we turned on the heating for the first time last night and the sound came back.
The only way to stop it is to turn all the systems from 4 and above in the bedroom which makes the sound stop but also the room boiling hot and perhaps our bills even hotter.

Has anybody experienced anything similar with their Heizkörper? It’s super annoying and not easy to
ignore during the night and I don’t think just having all the systems at 4-5 all night is very helpful. Should we start complaining again to the Hausverwaltung or ask to send technicians to our house and to the neighbour? Or perhaps taking first with the neighbour is the best option?

Thank you in advance for your help.

Lost keys near Nonna Café / Volkspark Friedrichshain

Hi everyone, I lost my car keys on Sunday morning, 25 October 2026, somewhere near Nonna Café at Greifswalder Straße 229, 10405 Berlin, or around Volkspark Friedrichshain.

If anyone found keys in that area or handed them in to a café, shop or lost property office, please send me a private message. I can provide identifying details to confirm they’re mine.

Thank you for your help!

Custom earrings in Berlin

Post image
• Upvotes

Good Morning, I would like to make a present and I am looking for a place that could realize an earring like the one that I managed to generate with AI. It has a specific meaning but I couldn't find anything similar sold around. Do you know any advice on places that have fair prices and good quality? Doesn't have to be gold but also cheaper materials in gold colour.

Thanks :)

Nail salon recs in Berlin? BIAB or Gel X, careful and gentle 💅

Hi all! I'm looking for a good nail place in Berlin for BIAB or Gel X extensions. I want well-made, careful work that doesn't damage the nails.

I used to go to Isla, but it seems they've stopped doing this. If you have a salon or a tech you trust, especially someone gentle and precise, I'd love your recommendations. I'm around xberg but happy to travel for the right person.

Thank you! 💅

Berlin English Speaking Schools

• Upvotes

Thank you very much everybody for your sharing your insights. I apologise for the late reply. I am busy with gathering information in other areas before the move (housing, Krankenversicherung etc.). I can see that both schools have their pros and cons. I am wondering if there are other English speaking schools in Berlin (that are not private). My kids will be in grade 10 and 12 (or maybe 9 and 11 - depending on the school). For us it's important that they don't need to know German well (their German is only conversational, not very academic). Therefore, I did not look at bilingual schools since it looks like there they would need to be fluent in both languages. Are there other schools apart from NM and JFK that follow a similar curriculum in Berlin? Thank you very much for your help!!!

Moving to Berlin with a desktop

Hello. I am moving to Berlin from the US, and I am bringing my desktop with me. Has anyone dealt with this before? Did you have to declare it? I saw something about needing to own it for 6 months to declare it as a personal good. However, the problem is I recently bought it from my housemate, so I don't really have a receipt (I gave him my PC and some money). Not sure if it matters, but I am entering the country in Berlin.

good cook job platform?

Hi folks!
just wondering which job platforms are best to look for a part-time cook/line cook/Küchehilfe job? Im trying to land some where like a Cafe, Bistro... type of kitchens, small and chill team. But most big platforms like stepstone etc. are filled with hotels, catering services etc. I've been using craigslist. The posts there are very relevant, and real, but just very limited options. Kleinanzeige is fine ig, just very chaotic. I really have to dig real posts out.
So I wanna ask, Is there any any good job platform you can recommend? THX A LOT!

Forgot to renew Residents Parking Permit on time and have over €150 in fines. Can these be appealed?

• Upvotes

I forgot to renew my Residents’ Parking Permit (Bewohnerparkausweis) before it expired and have received over €150 in parking fines. I don’t use my car very often, which is the reason it took a while to notice the tickets.

So I am keen to find out if there is a way to appeal this? Has anyone tried/succeeded?

Because honestly, I cannot believe I’m the only person in this situation — the Parkausweis was introduced into many neighbourhoods just two years ago. So for many Berliners this will be the first time they will have to make the renewal…

Are these outrageous Nebenkosten a scam/embezzlement attempt from the Vermieter? How would you proceed if you moved in?

Post image
0 Upvotes

This is an immo-scout ad I recently applied to for an unfurnished apartment. Unless there is a mistake in the Kaltmiete price, with all reasonable calculation it is simply impossible for the Nebenkosten to be 560 euros per month!! Is this possibly an attempt by the landlord to pocket/embezzle the Nebenkosten while nominally keeping the rent at 690 euros?

In any case, assuming the contract has a rent of 690 euros and I do get to move in, would it be easy to litigate to lower the Nebenkosten immediately, or can the Vermieter stall and argue that they still don't have the Abrechnung (which they have a comfortable deadline of 12 months to provide) and I'd have to pay the full 1250 eur Warmmiete until the end of the year?

Thank you in advance!

Does anyone know a good CMD/TMJ/bruxism specialist dentist in Berlin?

I think the title says it all. I’ve had problems since I was 16 (I’m 33 now). Growing worse each year. Already have a mouthguard I did here in Berlin and use it and it helps but not enough. I did botox to ease the pain and strength and it helped but now that it faded away everything is worse. I’m developing tinnitus because of it. I honestly don’t know the right approach so if anyone has recommendations/dentists I would appreciate it.

Welcome Center

Hello. Has anyone had an experience getting help from the Welcome Center on their residence permit application? I emailed them asking for help, and they just sent me the opening hours for the consultation. I would appreciate if anyone can share their experience because I will have to get a day off work to go there. I want to know if it is worthwhile. Thank you so much.

New Dishwasher stopped working

We bought a siemens Diswasher two months ago and 2 weeks ago it started showing an error E:61 so i called the Siemens customer care believing that its still in warranty period and they will repair it ASAP. The technician came last week and said that the error is due to the food remains in the water outlet pipe and its not the fault of the company/Machine that they will repair free of cost and i had to pay them 119€ for coming and inspecting it.

Does anybody know a plumber who can drain and clean the pipe for a good price so that i don't have to get it done officially through Siemens which will cost me 200€. I would be grateful for the help
I live in Lichtenberg

First solo trip to Berlin (Kehlani concert) - looking for advice/tips

Hi everyone! 😊

I’ll be visiting Berlin from November 27 to December 1 for the Kehlani concert, and this will be my first solo trip! I’m really excited, but also a little nervous since I’ve never travelled alone before.

I’m looking for affordable accommodation, ideally around 150€ for all four nights. I’ve been considering hostels, but I’m a little worried about sharing a room with strangers, mainly because I don’t want my belongings to get stolen while I’m sleeping or out exploring.

Would you recommend a female-only dorm? Are there any safe, affordable hostels with lockers, or even private rooms within my budget? LGBT friendly also appreciated.

I’d also love some general safety tips for a solo female traveller in Berlin, especially regarding public transport at night and areas to stay in.

Also, if anyone else is going to the Kehlani concert and would be interested in meeting up, grabbing a drink or exploring Berlin together, let me know! It would be nice to meet some people, especially since I’ll be travelling alone. 🫶

Any recommendations or personal experiences are greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance! ❤️
