Players Only Took my 1967 film camera to game 1 of the World Series

I develop black and white film myself so I got the results quickly (kind of). I shot two rolls of color and one of slide film which I'll get back in a week or two. These were taken on my 1967 Mamiya Super 23 on Kentmere Pan 400. It produces incredible 6x9 negatives (massive) and thus I can get scans up to 7,000x10,000 pixels. I have a 24"x36" print on order and can't wait for it to arrive.

Image I love the "hide scores" option on the MLB App. Now I can watch the World Series at my convenience without ANY CLUE how the games'll end ...

I go to bed far too early to watch live and try to watch first thing in the morning without spoilers but nope. It's impossible. They spoil it anyway.

In their defense, they DID actually fix it so the final score no longer flashes across on the screen when I start the broadcast replays. That embarrassing bug plagued my enjoyment of the last three World Series. You're almost there, MLB App! Maybe next year!

[Highlight] 6 years ago today, Kevin Cash decided to pull Blake Snell after a 5.1 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, 9 SO performance in Game 6 of the World Series on only 73 pitches. The Dodgers would then rally almost immediately and win their first championship since 1988.

Players Only [Baseball Quotes] Jim Gasser was drafted by the Brewers in 1984, but injuries cut his career short before he could play in a professional game. 42 years later, his son Robert threw 6 shutout innings for the Brewers in Game 3 of the World Series.

Article by Adam McCalvy prior to Game 3: https://www.mlb.com/news/robert-gasser-living-his-dream-dad-s-in-2026-world-series

With World Series start, Gasser is living his dream -- and his dad's

“What a small baseball world,” Jim said on the eve of watching his son, Robert Gasser, start for the Brewers in Game 3 of the World Series on Monday night at Tropicana Field, “that the team that drafted me doesn’t draft my son but picks him up in a trade, and here he is, pitching in the World Series for Milwaukee. You can’t make that stuff up.”

Opinion NL Manager of the Year - Pat Murphy for a 3rd straight year?

NL manager of the year?

Who do you think deserves to win it as of now in the NL? Do you think a guy like Pat Murphy can win it for a 3rd time? Seems like he is the heavy favorite.

Other options include Walt Weiss, and Craig Stammen. But seems like Pat has it locked up. Any chance they don’t give it to him?

Who do you think should win and why?

Rumor [Woo] Multiple Dodgers scouts and team personnel described late July as the turning point for Shohei Ohtani's worsening injuries. […] He remained bullish on returning to the mound this season, believing he only needed a few days of rest. The Dodgers believed him, too, despite his setbacks.

Source – Katie Woo (The Athletic):

Excerpt:

Multiple [Los Angeles Dodgers] scouts and team personnel described late July as the turning point. Shohei Ohtani racked up an MVP-worthy first half, mashing 23 home runs with a .953 OPS as a hitter and notching a 1.79 ERA over 14 starts as a pitcher. But the left knee pain that would derail his season had already become an issue.

Ohtani skipped his final pitching start of the first half and did not play in the All-Star Game. Instead, he received a lubricant shot to alleviate the knee inflammation. He remained bullish on returning to the mound, believing a few days of rest was all he needed.

The Dodgers believed him, too, despite multiple pitching setbacks and an obvious decline on offense that correlated nearly to the date Ohtani started throwing again.

Sources within the organization, who spoke on the condition of anonymity in exchange for their candor, question the resumption of a throwing program in August, and whether it affected his overall performance or exacerbated injuries that probably could have subsided, or at least been significantly reduced, if Ohtani had simply taken some time off.

[Jayson Stark] Brewers’ 8-run explosion was an inning unlike any other in World Series history

Confirmed!

Those rampaging Milwaukee Brewers, who are looking like a runaway bullet train with no brake pedal, fired off a World Series inning like no other Monday. Seven straight two-out hits? … Eight straight two-out runs? … Five runs in a span of eight pitches? … Six runs in a span of 13 pitches? … Seven runs in a span of 17 pitches? … Eight runs in a span of 22 pitches?

Oh, and all of that happened after an umpire made a call (later overturned by replay) that would have ended this inning with no runs?

Yep. Yep. Yep. Yep. Yep. Yep. And yep.

Trust us. There has never, ever been a World Series inning like that one. So when I walked into the Brewers’ clubhouse after their 10-1 demolition of the Tampa Bay Rays’ World Series dreams, I still felt the goosebumps from the history I’d just watched unfold.

But you know who doesn’t recognize history, even when they’re making it? Baseball players.

So did the dudes on this Brewers team have any idea of what they had just done? Let’s go with no.

THE ATHLETIC TO ROOKIE SHORTSTOP COOPER PRATT: “Have you ever been part of an inning like that?”

PRATT: “Yeah, I think everyone has been part of an inning something like that. It’s just baseball.”

OK, no, it’s not. But let’s move on. Let’s tell you about our exchange with Christian Yelich, the seasoned Lion King of this group. He seemed like someone who might have a feel for this weighty moment. But no, not quite.

TA: “Can you describe what it was like to find yourself in the middle of that inning?”

YELICH: “Yeah, it was cool. I mean, just happy for the guys, just trying to get a win out there and just playing baseball.”

TA: “Yes, but when it gets to six two-out hits in a row, to seven two-out hits in a row, are you saying to yourself, ‘I don’t know if I’ve been part of something like this?’”

YELICH: “I mean, I’ve seen our team have some times where we’ve run off consecutive hits throughout the year. Obviously, it’s not super frequent, but I feel like I’ve seen us kind of do some stuff like that before. Just kind of, it just happens. It’s one of those baseball things. … It’s one of those baseball things that you can’t explain, but it just kind of happens.”

TA: “That’s true. You just made it happen in a World Series game, though.”
