Scenes from the Bay Anyone Missing a Giant Inflatable Pumpkin?
Traffic on 85 suddenly slowed and we saw a man wrangling a giant inflatable pumpkin on the side of the highway. I assume it flew from someone’s yard.
Just another day in the Bay!

Scenes from the Bay Over 4,000 Urban Compassion Project volunteers have cleared more urban trash than any other individual nonprofit in the United States: 1.7 million pounds of illegal dumping since January 2025. And many of these areas remain clean.
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
since january 2025, more than 4,000 volunteers have come together through UCP to clear 1.7 million pounds of illegal dumping from oakland and neighboring cities, including berkeley, emeryville, and vallejo.
behind every pound removed are people showing up, working hard, and fighting for the communities they care about. this organization wouldn’t exist without our volunteers…seriously!!!!
our work also reaches beyond cleanups. through compassion threads and our weekly distributions, we provide clothing, food, and essential supplies to people who are too often overlooked, including those living in the areas most impacted by dumping.
and we’re seeing the lasting impact as so many of the spaces we’ve cleaned are staying clean, with beautification efforts helping keep them that way.
1.7 million pounds is an incredible feat. but what makes us proudest is the community behind it, and everything we’re building together to make the bay area a better, brighter place.

Food, Shopping & Services Kaiser HMO vs Aetna PPO
I'm currently on Aetna PPO and thinking of moving to Kaiser HMO due to it being much more affordable. My only chronic illness is GI related. Last year with Aetna, I tried to get an appointment from multiple GI specialists in different hospitals, and the wait was multiple months for all of them. So I started to question if I'd really benefit from the "flexibility" of PPO.
I would love to get some opinions.

Work & Housing Gen Z, wtf are you doing as a job / career?
calling all gen z to post your experiences, I am just really lost as to what to even do with my life right now. Granted nobody has it together, but id like to hear from people in my age bracket thats barely trudging by in the fast paced environment of the bay area
I am 25M, have a useless associates degree in video production, and working a deadend job for a snack company that services bay area offices, in which I watch people our age make upwards of 100k+ in ai while I make a measly 50k. I have thought of going into a trade backed by a union, but I find it extremely confusing on how to even get into one, aside from the constant warnings of rampant nepotism, and long list of applications that could take years to even get to your name. thought about going back to college, but doing full time classes, I don’t think i would make rent every month / don’t know of the most accessible career to try with the local colleges here in Oakland/berkeley. I also have in the back of my mind of moving to Chicago, which reminds me of the bay area alot, that doesnt have a tech culture. but guess what, i have no money to move! awesome!
i am simply exhausted and defeated being here. and im not even sure what career i want at all. originally i was very into filmmaking / it was my first job in a nonprofit but branched out becauze i was burnt out creatively. now, ive been jumping between delivery driving, retail, event/gigs, and having a crisis 25/8. trust me, ive been scavenging job fairs to see what even calls to me, but nothing truly grabs me for what to take up as a longterm career. what will be untouchable by ai? what job wont make me want to kill myself after a few months? oohhhh boy, to be born with wealth and no worries.

Scenes from the Bay I hand-drew Lucile Packard Children's Hospital Stanford in Palo Alto, California, from a photo, using marker pens and colored pencils. I wanted to capture the building's architecture with a light and cheerful color palette. Thought I'd share it here! Hope you like it! :)

Events, Activities & Sports Our 40-Mile South Bay Hike: thanks to all the Redditors who braved the trek!
This year’s Marathon Hike Day was a blast! We upped the distance to 40 miles to celebrate my birthday, and a dozen brave Redditors woke up at the crack of dawn to come hike under the moonlight with me. We toured the South Bay wetlands and crossed the bay over the Dumbarton Bridge. In eight years of marathon hikes, this group had the highest success rate ever, and almost everyone hit a new personal mileage record! Thank you all so much for making my birthday hike so fantastic.
See you all next year! We’ll be back on our normal 26.2-mile schedule for the next one.

Food, Shopping & Services Kaiser HMO for high risk pregnancy and childbirth
I am currently on Kaiser HMO through my employer. So far I have had no issues. I do have some chronic conditions which are being taken care of pretty well. My PCP is also nice, I just have to ask her if I need to see a specialist and she will give me the referral.
We are TTC and I am wondering if I should stay with Kaiser or switch to United PPO. My chronic conditions affect pregnancy but are manageable with medication. It will probably be a high-risk pregnancy.
How is Kaiser’s maternal-foetal medicine department? How was your experience giving birth at Kaiser? I would greatly appreciate any input. Thanks.
