Really enjoying this crude style of writing the letters I'm developing rn [Written: ᜀᜆᜒᜐᜓᜎ]

In this concept, sometimes I would wonder if baybayin would go some sort of simplification process. Here is my visual interpretation on how it would be like. Each of the scripts are made to be easier and quicker to write, specially with a pen, pencil, or brush. Let me know what you think of it!

The simplified script is inspired by style of 草书 the cursive forms of Chinese characters. I also made sure that all of the characters have some resemblance to the original baybayin characters and made some distinctions to not make them look like the same.

I might start series of these Alternative Baybayin concepts, since I have some ideas I could share, let me know if you like too see more!

List of the Native Writing Systems of the Philippines:

• Baybayin Script

• Kulitan Script

• Tagbanwa Script

• Hanunó'o Script

• Buhid Script

For example, “Shay” or “Alisha”

For Alisha, do you write it like..

1) ᜀᜎᜒᜐ
2) ᜀᜎᜒᜐ͓ᜌ [this one is confusing bc you could pronounce it by syllables ah-lis-ya instead of ah-li-sha)
3) ᜀᜎᜒᜐᜒᜌ

What is a better way to pronounce and spell it in baybayin?

Anyone up to the challenge? It’s been three years and I wanna know what it says too. Or rather, just the characters in general because some are written so... uniquely that it is hard to tell.

So many people question the legitimacy of the "Badlit" script. Here is the evidence. Although the name "Badlit" may be a recent standardization, the script is real and legitimate. Spanish friar Francisco Encina recorded the Cebuano script before he died in 1760. It was later corroborated in the 1890 book Estudio de los antiguos alfabetos Filipinos by Cipriano Marcilla y Martin. (Link below)

Additionally, we have even more compelling evidence of the native script because of Don Bernardino Dimabasa and Doña Maria Mutia (both pure Bantayanons from Bantayan, Cebu) for signing their divorce papers with the script.

I noticed “᜕” on my baybayin keyboard so yeah, what does it mean and how do you use it?

i wanna get my last name tattooed in baybayin script (Aguilar), and want to make sure that im not getting some nonsense on my body.

ive seen a few different variations online and want to get a double check on that. Which of the following would be most accurate? if none, please provide something in comments 🙏

ᜀᜄᜒᜎᜇ᜔

ᜀᜄᜒᜎᜍ᜔

ᜀᜄᜒᜎ

I was wondering if anyone can help me with the word Magtiyaga in Baybayin. I have two possible ways to write it in the pic. The top is written as ma/g/ti/ya/ga and the second is written ma/g/t/sa/ga because when I hear Magtiyaga aloud, the “tiya” part in the word is pronounced more like a “cha”. Any thoughts?

I've been wanting to learn baybayin but I keep seeing so many different versions online that I don't know where to start, lol.

I just saw another post here the other day about Kulitan, and I'm still wondering why people keep claiming that it is a pre-colonial writing system.

The Kulitan we commonly see and use today is a modernized version of the script. While it is part of Kapampangan cultural heritage, we should be careful about presenting the modern form as if it were directly preserved from the pre-colonial period without sufficient historical evidence.

There's a difference between an indigenous writing tradition and the specific form of a script that has been revived, reconstructed, or modified in modern times. These details matter, especially when discussing our history and cultural identity.

Here's a post by Christopher Miller that I think is worth reading on this topic:

Advice appreciated 🙏

I was using this before i transitioned to glass. Just want to share in the group. Design mimics an old banig texture with baybayin script all over it.

I’m making little post it notes for different baybayin scripts as part of some Philippine mythology stories I’m conceptualizing. I’ve already made ones for Tagalog and Bikolano variants, but I’m having trouble finding a reliable table for the Bisaya (Visayan) script. I want to be as accurate as possible and don’t want to fall prey to misinformation and use a misleading image.

i was digging through my things and found this baybayin necklace but cannot read what it says. i recall receiving this necklace in error from a company that makes custom necklaces so we never figured out what it says.

Hi! A native sambal speaker here. So, for starters I’ve been learning, and studying baybayin like how it came to be, where it descended (primarily cause I was studying thai). Anyway, as I was continuing my research, I noticed that sambali as a language doesn’t pair with baybayin.

Let me explain; in sambali we say maganda umaga as “Maabig a bokla”, in here a gives off “uh” sound rather than conventional “ah” sound. This doesn’t really highlight it in baybayin, which made me look if there’s a script for sambali which would likely similar to baybayin.

However, to no luck there’s no surviving evidence that something like that exists. Fortunately, historical accounts suggest that there might be a writing script used by ancient sambali, cause spaniards noted that “Zambales already had a writing at the time of the conquest. Also, sambal is first recorded in 1601 making it one of the earliest recorded Philippine language. Altho the evidence for the script is strong; the evidence for the exact physical writing practices of Sambal specifically is less direct due to lack of surviving written records.

To date, no discoveries have been made with regards to written manuscripts of the alphabet (if there is). Personally, I hope that a discovery can be made, this will be vital specially cause the sambal variety that is being spoken in my municipality is slowly dying.

Translation

Magwayen is the Visayan Goddess of the Sea and Afterlife

below is the Cebuano badlit balak invocation rendered in the Latin script

Aron matuman iyang tuyo
Ug dungan sa nagdaganas nga balod sa kamingawan
Ang unang ginhawa mingbutho

Kini ang wahig nga pagasubayon
sa kahimugsoan ug kamatayon
ngadto sa kahimtang nga dayon
Saylo sa kasublian nga makanunayon

sa mga nasayod niini sa tiunay
diha si Magwayen nga nagbantay
sa matag anib nga milabay
sa matag hugna nga milahutay

Ang tubig nga buhi
gipatubod ni Magwayen sa kalibotan
Sa pagpausbaw sa kinabuhi
Kay kini ang matuhopong kahulogan
Nga nagdagayday sa lukopngatanan
