Do you want to see less knife/tool posts?

If so, this is your chance to say so.

Im not talking about identification or maintenence posts, or even reveiws or shopping questions, im talking just straight up "look what I got" knife pics, axe pics, and in general gear pics.

We've been cracking down more on ads from makers (even more so from reseller), especially more subtle, "totally not an ad" ads, but if you want just less of the gear just thirst posts in general, speak up.

Edit: also, would anyone be interested in a few super threads, such as gear recommendations, maintenance and repair, or reviews?

Have you ever tried tunnelling into a bramble bush?

I was thinking that if you had a pair of small garden snips you could cut a tunnel into the center of bramble bush and use it as a stealth shelter during spring or summer. You could even hook the cuttings on the other brambles to conceal the entrance.

Why you ask? Why not?

A tree died about 1.5 years ago and I waited until now to fell it. I'm hoping to have fatwood but don't know what I'm looking at. First time trying this.

Appreciate any education on what I'm seeing.

Not sure what kind of pine it is.

what manual wood auger(s) are the best?

I want one or two...between 0.5" to a full 1.0", but prices are all over the place with generic brand names that ate mostly unrecognizable.

hopefully there are some that have a reasonable balance of build and steel quality, low weight that are relatively easy to maintain and keep sharpening while the price is still friendly for the average Joe Bushcraft.

Can you reline/waterproof backpacks

I felt like this is the best place to ask. We all get attached to equipment and stuff, it's just sad when it's at the point (or well beyond it) of needing to be replaced.

I have a backpack that is pretty old, it's a very Daypack, a Nylon Berghaus Dart.

The inner waterproofing has been flaking off of it for years.

Is there anything that can reapply that waterproof layer?

This was a special one! I had some North American Walnut & Palemoon Ebony left over… seemed rude not to! Paired with some Green Sheen Obsidian from Oregon USA.

Grass Sling Project Success!

Hi all, just wanted to share a small project of mine where I made a sling from grass and it went successful. I have several other sling making projects from natural materials in the pipe line that i have already started.

Link is to the full footage of it. This grass sling took me 16 minuets to build and i used less than half of the grass collected in the beginning.. There are a lot of weaknesses in grass as a structure and i thought i might have to have several attempts at this. I have kept the sling and am letting it sit at home and dry out further then i will try it again and see how it holds up: just to get an idea of its capabilities in the medium to long term.

My First Year of Bushcraft – Built a Cabin, Waterwheel & More Using Only Hand Tools

Hi everyone!

I got into bushcraft earlier this year. I found a remote spot near a river and just started building a cabin using only hand tools and natural materials (mostly dead wood and stone). I basically learned everything along the way by reading posts in this sub and watching YouTube videos.

As the cabin started taking shape, I also got into a few side projects, like building a waterwheel-powered rotisserie, learning how to fish, and making some other useful stuff around the camp.

This is a short trailer for the full build video I'm currently working on.

I'd really appreciate any feedback, both on the video and the build itself. I'm still learning and always looking for ways to improve my skills!

did i fix my failed patina?

Thumbnail

earlier today i tried to force a patina on my bps adventurer by submurgering it in room temp white vinegar for 90 minutes but as a lot of people correctly pointed out, it did pretty much nothing. you can see the results in my prior post.

this time i took the scales off, used barkeepers friend to get rid of the old patina, brought some apple cider vinegar to a boil and left the blade in submurged in a cup for roughly 40 minutes.

does this patina look okay? its definitely darker than in my previous post but what i'm worried about is this odd colored stain on the branding side of the knife. what is that?

i tried degreasing and re etching multiple times but couldnt get it to etch uniformly. i dont care how the patina looks, i just want to protect my knife from rust as best as i can. did i do it right or will i have to try again?

edit: i redid the patina and posted the results, id really appreciate it if you all could take a look on my profile and provide input

bps adventurer. i submerged the blade in a cup of vinegar for 90 minutes but since this is my first carbon steel knife i'm not sure if i did it right. i don't care about how it looks as long as it will protect the blade from rust as best as possible. is it ok or should i redo?

do any of you hot tarp? what's your setup?

I can't afford a hot tent and wood stove, so looking at hot tenting in my back yard this winter.

I'm probably going to grab a decent heavy duty / extreme duty poly tarp and install a stove jack. for the stove, right now I'm looking at the Vevor Ti Alloy model for $255 CAD.

I thought about asking on the hot tent reddit, but thought I'd ask here first, since you;'re more my people than they are, LoL!

I just bought a BPS Adventurer

Anyone else have this knife? What do you think of it?

So far I like the back as it's 90 degrees and probably can work a firesteel. I like the scandi. And I like the size of the blade, as you can probably sharpen it a lot before it becomes too thin.

Looking for a hand saw that’s durable that I can use on medium size branches. [NE USA]

I’m relatively new to bushcraft, I’ve got a ton of woods on my property so I recently started clearing a trail, trying to get deep into the woods so I can set up a camp. All I’ve really got is a hatchet, and it’s been doable but not efficient. I tried a typical wood saw but it gets jammed the second it hits a lick of moisture. I’m trying to look for a durable handsaw that can cut through branches about the size of a hockey puck, maybe a bit bigger. I’m in Massachusetts, I’m having to cut through mostly deadwood but occasionally green wood. Any tool recommendations, or just tips in general would be greatly appreciated.
