Somewhat surprised Minnesota jumped a ton of teams to get in. I thought they looked good, but the whole body of work? I do get it though. Big sweep of NoDak. Maybe I’m overthinking this lol.

I’m local in DC and wondering if I should buy tickets in the pre-sale this week, or wait til regionals are over and we know which teams will be playing? Will ticket prices go up a ton closer to the dates or can I wait?

In the /r/collegehockey Discord Music League game that I run, I needed a song that I remembered I had saved deep into my sophomore year playlist that I thought that fit the prompt and decided to skim through the playlist as a whole and thought to myself “man, I remember liking a good number of these - I should listen to them some time.”

Let’s see how the /r/collegehockey top ten did over this past weekend:

1 Michigan defeated Western Michigan in their sole game of the weekend. The Wolverines start conference play with a road Saturday-Sunday series at Ohio State.

2 North Dakota got swept at Minnesota by a pair of 3-5 scores. The Fighting Hawks go to Austin, Texas for the US Hockey Hall of Fame match, against Michigan State.

3 Michigan State split their series at New Hampshire, losing 0-1 before winning 2-1 on Saturday. The Spartans go to Austin for a one-off match against North Dakota.

4 Western Michigan lost in both games, 2-3 against Michigan and 0-4 against Wisconsin. The Broncos host Long Island for a series.

5 Denver won 5-2 on Friday before tying 2-2 against Boston College on Saturday. The Pioneers begin NCHC play by hosting Omaha for a series.

6 Wisconsin blanked Western Michigan in their exhibition, 4-0. The Badgers open Big Ten play with a home series against Notre Dame.

7 Quinnipiac lost to Army 3-4 in overtime in their sole game of the weekend. The Bobcats host Providence in a one-off on Saturday afternoon.

8 Providence swept Mass. Lowell to start Hockey East play, 3-0 on the road and 5-2 at home. The Friars have one game this weekend, against Quinnipiac.

9 Minnesota Duluth swept Bemidji State, winning 4-1 at home and 3-0 on the road. The Bulldogs begin their NCHC slate by traveling to Colorado College.

10 Colorado College swept Air Force, 6-2 and 4-0 in this crosstown rivalry. The Tigers start conference play by hosting Minnesota Duluth.

Voting will run until Wednesday 10/28 at 10 pm EDT. Vote here!

This week will have a considerable effect on my mood for the rest of the winter ⚾

Ballots are due overnight between Wednesday and Thursday and theoretically aggregated Thursday morning. Happy voting!

I got a little nervous when OSU got their third, but what a start to the year! Hopefully, we keep the momentum going in CCHA play.

Really solid weekend of hockey for The Black Bears. Colgate might not be the best team, but they’re desperate, and that makes teams dangerous.

How about these freshmen!

We really need to stop ending games like this. Haha.

I don’t remember ever seeing a team as big as BC. Players 6’7”, 6’6”, two at 6’4” and three at 6’3”. That fits with East Coast hockey’s more physical style of play. Tyler Krivtsov was the star of this game. Denver won the 1st and 3rd period, BC won the 2nd. Denver’s speed and goaltending were the deciding factors.

Random game notes:
Scott Darling was the honorary guest/captain pre-game
Petter Wickström Stumer got his first win and shutout as a Black Bear
Reid Dyck started in net for Colgate. You can imagine how the student section handled that
Maine also played Colgate last year on homecoming weekend and split the series (lost Friday, won Saturday)

Back at it again tomorrow!

Keep it rolling!
