Just curious because I've been seeing people posting their collections they got and all the posts seem to be missing the moon landing. I thought it was supposed to be his complete collection? Did criterion just not get the rights to it or something?

My life is currently in shambles, but at least I have this.

1. Plan to watch these in chronological order if I can resist watching The Shining . . .

2. All of it.

3. I haven’t seen his early films so I guess those are ‘blind’.

4. Next purchase is whatever comes out this week!

First time receiving something early, ordered through atomic

movie store

Definitely watching this tonight, I plan on picking up Frankenstein in the sale next month

Who should I contact, can these be replaced? Basically my whole flash sale order :(

I just finished all my coursework for my Master's degree and had no idea how to celebrate. Thanks to this sub I splurged on these during the sale to reward myself. If it weren't for this community, I would have had no idea the sale was happening. Thank you all!

1. I'll be watching SotL first because it's spooky season 👻

2. I'm most looking forward owning Network because I feel like I'll be rewatching that one most, though that could change since I've only ever seen that, Eyes Wide Shut, and NCfOM before.

3. None of these were blind buys. I've seen at least a couple of other films from each of these directors before.

4. If I could have gotten another one it would have probably been Le Samourai

Been mostly cherry picking my favorites since I started my personal criterion collection but looking to expand. Any recommended titles/directors/genres/countries to explore based on my taste? Hope everyone is enjoying their recent pickups!

Call me when they add some real cinema

Every year for my birthday I have what I'm now calling "weird movie night" with my friends.

"Weird" is hyperbole, but I like showing my non-film-bro friends something that they'll like but would never choose to watch on their own. Friends are mid 20's to mid 30's.

Two years ago I made them watch Dazed and Confused. A classic.
Last year we watched Tampopo, which I feel like we'll never be able to top.

I'm at a loss this year. I like to keep it light-hearted because some of my friends are wimps, but not afraid to push the envelope a little either like Tampopo. Its spooky season, so that's not a bad place to start, but I'm up for anything.

I feel like House would be an obvious choice, but I've seen that one and don't care to re-watch it at this point.

Do you have a go-to film to wow your light-hearted friends?

Non-Criterion picks are good too.

I feel like I sometimes have a hard time finding the kind movies I love. My favorite kind of films are quiet reflective character focused films. My favorite movie I’ve watched this year is Drive My Car and I am so so excited for All of a Sudden. Some other films I love are Sentimental Value, The Worst Person in the World, In the Mood for Love, and Sing Sing. Please help me find more films like these, thank you!

Ever since I got my new 4K TV a few months ago I’ve been starved for 4K content, hence going a bit nuts with this month’s sale.

1. What is the first movie you plan to watch from your haul and why?

3. Are any of your purchases blind buys? If so, why did you select them?

I’m drawn to start with the Mike Mills or Kieslowski sets, they were blind buys for me, and weren’t on my radars till I read the descriptions of each.

2. Is there anything from this haul that you have been looking forward to owning for a long time?

I don’t think there’d anything here that I’ve been eyeing forever, I’m at a point with my collection where I’m just trying to add things that I will appreciate as a cinephile and giving myself new things to experience later when I fully cut off streaming, but I do think it’s about time I watch the crying game given its pop culture significance.

4. What is a Criterion you’re hoping to add to your collection next?

I wish-listed a few for the next sale, K-Pop Demon Hunters being one of them but I also am getting tempted to get the Kubrick set if they restock.

For the upcoming Barnes and Noble sale, my budget allows for four new discs. I’m planning on After Hours, Breathless, 12 Angry Men, and a Kurosawa film. I’m between High and Low and Rashomon. Any suggestions for which of these to choose?

Was marked $29.99, I asked if they could do anything on the price since the back had that weird staining on it. I realized the Shake! one doesn’t have the booklet. So maybe this wasn’t as good of a deal as I was thinking at first - even though this packaging is OOP.

How different our tastes are and how diverse the collection truly is!

1. What is the first movie you plan to watch from your haul and why? Summer Hours, I loved Demonlover from Assayas, excited to see more of his work.

2. Is there anything from this haul that you have been looking forward to owning for a long time? The Vanishing is one of my favorite movies, so I’d say that one.

3. Are any of your purchases blind buys? If so, why did you select them? All except for The Vanishing and Code Unknown. Honestly, the summaries sounded super cool and I’m trying to watch more filmmakers I don’t know of

4. What is a Criterion you’re hoping to add to your collection next? The Elephant Man is definitely my next pickup

1. What is the first movie you plan to watch from your purchase and why?
Need to give Nightmare Alley a rewatch

2. Is there anything from this purchase that you have been looking forward to owning for a long time?
I’ve had my eye on Frankenstein since release, happy to get my hands on it. Hoping they release Train Dreams as that was also a Netflix gig.

3. Are any of your purchases blind buys? If so, why did you select them?
   Nope all watches

4. What is a Criterion you’re hoping to add to your collection next?
   Still wanting The Before Trilogy

1. I plan to watch Crash first! I haven’t seen it in years and it’s not on any streaming service right now so I can’t wait to see how it is through the lens of my 18 year old self vs my current 25 year old self.

2. 12 Angry Men. I had to watch this movie for four separate classes in college and it has just stuck with me so deeply and seeing how pretty the Criterion release was I just had to have it.

3. No blind buys for me.

4. No Country for Old Men, Videodrome, The Umbrellas of Cherbourg, Parasite are all on my list to add to my collection.

Hi all,

I'm desperate to see after hours and wondering if it's worth it as my first criterion collection. I usually just buy DVD's of films I want to see, but can't find an after hours one for less than £10. £22 is quite a lot of money for me to spend on one film but I'm pretty sure I'll love it. Any suggestions or reassurances would be really appreciated 👍

Thank you!

(Sorry if this is in the wrong flair)

Edit: Hi guys thank you all for the help I decided to go ahead and buy and managed to get the 4k + blu ray for £25. I'm super excited for my first criterion collection!

1. What is the first movie you plan to watch from your purchase and why?

Barry Lyndon was the first movie I watched in this haul. First time viewing too which is largely why I watched it first.

1. Is there anything from this purchase that you have been looking forward to owning for a long time?

I have wanted a copy of the Grand Budapest Hotel for awhile. I have most of Anderson’s work on blu ray already so double dipping on the 4k set wasn’t in the cards.

1. Are any of your purchases blind buys? If so, why did you select them?

Barry Lyndon was a blind buy! I’m a huge Kubrick fan and that was the only film of his I have not seen. Again, I own most of his work on Blu Ray otherwise I’d get that gorgeous 4k set.

1. What is a Criterion you're hoping to add to your collection next?

The John Singleton 4K set! Next time the flash sale hits, I’m going for it.

One of the things I enjoyed most about the 24/7 feature was that on the what’s on now page, they would tell you how many minutes it was until the next movie started. So, for example, if I turned it on and there was a three hour Fassbinder movie on that I didn’t want to rewatch, I could just look at the what’s on now page and know that I could come back in 97 minutes and the next movie would start.

With the revamping of the website and app, this feature has vanished. Any idea why, and will it be brought back?

I had watched KPDH on Netflix and loved it. I even have posters hanged up, Funko Pops and action figures. I knew I had to pre-order this being a fan of home video stuff. This 4K Blu-Ray will be a GOLDEN addition to my collection. (Bad pun)

1. Sex, lies & videotape is what I plan to watch first.

2.The Trial is what I'm looking forward to watching

1. All are blind buys except A Dry White Season & The Thin Red Line

2. FRANKENSTEIN is next on the list .
