Hey there! Newish Dayton resident, 35F. I love Halloween, but I don’t have kids and don’t really want to go to family events. I’m not interested in the bar scene as much anymore. I also don’t really know anyone in Dayton yet. Are there any fun events happening on Halloween that I can turn up at? Preferably a place that people in their 30s frequent so I can meet some people 😅

Six Halloween candy-infused Malört shots, a Malört Wheel of Doom, and tea and other NA options. Costumes encouraged, but you’re welcome without one too.

Bun Bun Hot Dog Stand will be there from 5–10pm. Coming earlier? You may want to grab a bite first. 10% of bar sales all day go to WYSO, our local NPR station out of Yellow Springs.

We're hosting Mediocre Pet Portraits for Giving Tuesday this December, and we're looking for people who can draw. Or sort of draw. Or are just willing to give it a shot.

Professional illustrators, weekend doodlers, proud stick-figure specialists: There's a spot for you. On event day, volunteer artists will join us at SICSA to sketch pet portraits, and every one of them helps support the animals in our care.

Is there a place locally, to get a Soundstream Reference 500 amplifier fixed?

There used to be a haunted history tour in downtown Dayton think it was by Gem City something or other. It was really neat they walked you all over the city and told stories about like where the original gallows were and cemeteries. I was just wondering if there is anything like that anymore for our area?

Greene CATS Public Transit will be providing free scheduled rides on Election Day, Nov. 3, for Greene County residents who have mobility limitation or transportation barriers that would keep them from being able to vote or access other essential destinations.

The Pam and Gourdin Foundation, along with four service organizations, are teaming up with Greene CATS Public Transit to provide free rides on Nov. 3. Passengers on scheduled rides will ride for free, providing them access to polling locations or other destinations along the way, including the Greene County Board of Elections office on Ledbetter Drive in Xenia.

Riders who schedule rides to their polling location or any other destination will also enjoy a free ride. Scheduled rides require advance reservation and are provided on a space available basis, so submit a trip request as soon as possible by calling the Scheduling Office at 937-708-8322, option 1. Requests must be submitted by noon Friday, Oct. 30. The office is open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays through Fridays.

All riders will receive a free tote bag with information about the four sponsoring organizations: American Legion Post 526 (Fairborn), FISH Food Pantry (Xenia), Knights of Columbus Council #3724 (Fairborn) and St. Vincent DePaul Society (Fairborn, Jamestown, Xenia, Yellow Springs).

It smells like shit

There aren't many who can make a custom brass musical instrument. Miamisburg is home to one of them. Through his company, Schlub Brassworks, owner George Schlub equips musicians around the world.

No end date, another eternal property tax increase that will never be removed.

I was just at land of illusion last night on a FastPass for $100 and with the cost of the fastpass now being within $20 of general admission it's noticeable that more people are buying the fastpass because sometimes the lines for general admission or shorter than the line for fastpass. At more than one point I jokingly told our group that we should just get in the general admission line to bypass all the fastpass people.

I also paid $15 for a lemonade. This feels worse than airport pricing. I saw a cheeseburger costs about $15 too. You can get a whole combo meal at Chick-fil-A and a side of chicken nuggets for what they charge for one cheeseburger heated up in a case.

In my opinion a drink should cost no more than $5 Max. Ideally maybe $2. I tend to eat dinner before I go to save money but my friends didn't and they ended up spending probably an extra $100 in the park just buying food and drinks. I'm also wondering if the water fountain was removed because I couldn't find it near the voodoo lounge forcing you to buy drinks from the concessions.

We started going regularly every year for the haunts back after covid was over and I remember the parking lot used to be gravel and admission was probably around $50. Since then the prices have increased steeply and it costs $10 to park on their newly paved parking lot.

I was also very disappointed certain actors were not present in the haunt this year and instead were replaced by animatronics or nothing at all.

The general consensuses is our group did not have a great time. Even with fast pass we waited over an hour for the haunted trail and the phobia haunt near the riding bull consistently had a long line extending out of the fastpass line so we never even went through that one.

We will not be returning.

I'm moving into the lovely city next week, and I'm not going to just sit around and not help out where needed, where should I go to volunteer?

Does anyone currently work at the Amazon Robotics fulfillment center in Union, Ohio?
I’m considering accepting a seasonal position there and wanted to hear from people who actually work at this location.

How likely is it for seasonal (white badge) employees to get converted to permanent (blue badge) employees? How long does it usually take, and does this location regularly convert seasonal workers?

Also, how do you like working there? I’m hoping to eventually get a permanent position with benefits, so I’d appreciate any honest feedback or recent experiences!
