Second of all, what on earth are people doing. Its red light and the road is full, the area has yellow lines. YOU CANT CLOSE THE FREAKING ROAD!!!!!!!! YET EVERYONE KEEPS BLOCKING IT, WHAT?????? NO RESPECT? EVERYONE THINKS THEY OWN THE WORLD OR WHAT?

No it does not matter, I am waiting anyway but let me block everyone else so they can wait for me while am waiting. NPCS.

Is UAE issuing 5 year visa for Indian citizens?

I want to apply for a 5 year visa for my mom who is an Indian citizen. What is the process, charges? Is there a catch - since I read somewhere that first entry itself cannot be 90+90 (extendable) days. Can someone please throw some light as it isn't clear.

Has anyone managed to get a refund for unused hotel nights in Dubai through Agoda?

Hey everyone!

Just wondering if anyone here has been through something similar.
I recently checked into a 5-star hotel in Dubai for a 7-night stay, booked and paid through Agoda.
The hotel seemed fine at first, but I noticed the room felt quite stuffy and the bedding was slightly damp. Later that night, I spotted what looked like a cockroach crawling down the wall near the AC area. It disappeared before I could take a picture.
Then I found an insect on the tea and coffee tray, crawling around the drinking cups. This time I actually managed to get photos and a video. I’d also noticed dust inside one of the cups earlier, which honestly made the whole thing even worse.
I’m currently unwell with a respiratory infection, so the last thing I want is pest control spraying chemicals in my room. And even if they move me to another room, I’m worried about having the same experience again.
Ideally, I’d like to check out early, pay for the two nights I’ve stayed, and get a refund for the remaining five nights so I can move to another hotel.
The problem is that I booked through Agoda, and I’m not sure how flexible they are with refunds in situations like this, especially if the booking is non-refundable.
Has anyone successfully managed to get an early checkout and a refund for unused nights due to hygiene or pest issues?
Did you deal directly with the hotel or go through Agoda? And if the hotel refused, did contacting Dubai Tourism or Dubai Municipality actually help?
Would really appreciate hearing about your experiences. Thanks! šŸ™

Strange encounter near Rolla / Dubai – Has anyone experienced something similar?

A man claiming to be unemployed and struggling with rent approached me asking for money. I gave him 5 AED from my car. He then repeatedly insisted on shaking my hand in gratitude, but I noticed an unusual object on his finger and declined. Has anyone else experienced a similar incident?

Car rental agency charged my card without me ever giving them my card number: how is that possible ? Is it legal ?

A rental agency I've been using for months just told me this month's payment had already been charged to my card.

The problem? I've NEVER given them my card details. I've always paid through one-time payment links.

How is this even possible? Is it legal? What can I do to stop them from charging me without my consent (which is very likely to happen based on how many times they have tried to charge me fake fees in the last months) ?

Hacked via phishing, locked out 3 weeks, account now visible again after filing a Dubai Police report, any way to finish recovery?

Posting in case anyone’s beaten this, and to help the next person who searches.

What happened: On 9 October I clicked a phishing link and lost my Instagram. Within hours the hacker changed my linked email to a throwaway address, added two foreign phone numbers I don’t own, and I was logged out everywhere. The account was then locked by Instagram with a ā€œwe locked your account to protect you from a possible hackā€ message.

Why normal recovery failed: My old recovery number is an expired prepaid SIM I can’t reactivate, and the WhatsApp tied to it is gone. So every code goes to contact info I can’t reach. Two friends confirmed me through friend verification and I reset my password, but the account still demands a code sent to that dead number. The ā€œtry another deviceā€ path dead-ends because I’m logged out everywhere, and the video selfie option never appeared for me.

What I’ve tried: instagram.com/hacked (loops to FAQs in browser), the in-app hacked report, emailing security@ and support@, friend verification, and a Dubai Police eCrime report.

The update: The night after I filed the Dubai Police complaint, my account became searchable again (it had been hidden for weeks). My photos are all still there, but the hacker’s posts are showing and I still can’t log in. Police have tried to call me and I’m arranging to call them back.

My questions:

  1. For those who recovered after email + phone were both changed and selfie never showed, what actually worked?
  2. Has anyone had the video selfie prompt arrive by email days after filing, rather than on screen?
  3. Anyone in the UAE recovered an account through a Dubai/Sharjah Police cybercrime case? How did it play out?

Any real experiences appreciated. And to be clear, I’m not looking for ā€œrecovery servicesā€, I know those are scams. i also have a content creator license in Dubai if that helps.

A thick piece of paper to update a salary certificate? Seriously?

I visited a bank in the UAE to update my salary information. My company-issued salary certificate had the required details, signature and stamp.

But I was told it had to be printed on the company's thick, pre-printed letterhead.

The information was the same. The signature was the same. The stamp was the same. Only the paper requirement was different.

My salary had already been credited to the same bank account for three months through WPS.

I understand compliance and verification, but what additional security does thick paper provide that a regular company letterhead doesn't?

Why not communicate all requirements upfront instead of making customers go back and forth?

Has anyone else faced this in the UAE?

šŸ”„ Rants & Complaints ā€˜Key money’ culture is something I will never understand.

So my wife and I are planning to get a physical shop space for our online business. We did our research and figured the best location would be in Deira.
It’s been almost a month and we haven’t gotten any suitable space yet and I’ve started having second thought about the decision.
We’ve seen different open space at a very good location but we are getting a very ridiculous price for a space of less than 150 sqft.
Now the most ridiculous thing now is more than 90% of the space we’ve seen so far are requesting for ā€˜key money’. We saw many shops that wrote ā€˜shop for rent’ or ā€˜shop for sale’, we go there and they demanding ā€˜key money’ and the price they are calling is more higher than the actual rent. There is a particular shop that told us to pay 350k ā€˜key money’ for a 80k/yr rent and this is also coming directly from the management.
I understand if I’m taking over the shop from someone else with all his business in there but for an empty space? I really can’t understand.
I’m sorry but I’m new to this and I would love if anyone can explain better the purpose of the key money because I’ve asked several times from different people and they were all giving ā€˜this is how it’s been for a long time’ answers.

Mattress store recommendations

Hi everyone, I'm in the market for new mattresses and was wondering if there are any stores that offer a hassle free trial period. I don't want to be stuck with a mattress that's not comfortable.

A mattress shows it's true colours only when youve slept in it a couple of nights. And the good ones cost quite a bit. So trying to get some ideas of how to go about it.

Thanks.

🌟 Fun Is whistling songs a cultural thing, or does everyone do it?

Random question that’s just popped into my head.

I was walking about whistling a tune earlier and suddenly realised that, despite living in Dubai and working with people from all over the world, I can’t remember ever hearing people of other nationalities casually whistling a song.

Back home in the UK, hearing someone whistling away to themselves is pretty normal, especially the older generation.

Obviously I’m not suggesting they can’t whistle šŸ˜‚ but it got me wondering whether whistling tunes is more common in certain countries or cultures.

For research purposes I asked 5 Filipinas from the office and none of them could actually whistle.

Let me know your thoughts

šŸ  Housing & Real Estate Apartment hunting tips

Hi guys,

I made a post on here earlier for mold in my apartment which I chose in a hurry (I am aware it was my fault). In the previous apartment it was facing the street and was really loud.

Now I made the choice to end this lease and go for a new apartment. I think I am just new to renting and stuff so if you guys can share any tips specifically for Dubai cuz I’ve rented only in Europe so it is a first time experience for me 🄺.

I don’t wanna throw more money down the drain and I really want this move to be my third and last in Dubai😭

Thanks guys!

Got a wfh opportunity but need to visit for 1 month training.

I got a good job offer, they were planning to hire wfo before, I rejected that offer, they countered with a training month here than wfh.
But they are providing a visit visa for that training, they are booking my flights and accommodation also.
Is it safe?

What actually happens to a non-Muslim expat’s UAE accounts and assets if they die here?

My understanding is that without a registered will, non-Muslim expats in the UAE can end up under default succession rules that may not match what they’d want. DIFC and ADGM both offer will registration, and Abu Dhabi has its own court route for wills. I’m still working out which one applies where, so please correct me.

Individual bank accounts are often frozen after a death until the court process finishes, which can leave a family without access to money for a while. I’m less sure how joint accounts and property are treated in practice.

For anyone who has been through this, either as a family member or after setting up a will: what was the actual process like, and how long did things take? I’d like to hear what was easier or harder than expected.

šŸ¢ Local Business & Banking Wio Personal - Proof of Address Document

Hi Dubai Redditers, I've had an EID and Wio Personal and Business accounts since 2024 through an Investor Visa. I come and go to the UAE and don't have a permanent address.

When I created my Wio account I only had to provide an address and they didn't ask for any proof of address. But now they request a proof of address (utility bill, gov document...) with my name on it. Unfortunately, I don't have any.

1-How do people in a similar situation to mine handle this?
2-Can I use a hosting certificate? Airbnb address?
3-Are there any alternatives to Wio in case I have to shut it down?

Thanks a lot in advance

Where can I find polymeric sand locally in Dubai?

šŸ”„ Rants & Complaints Unstable DU network

Hope everybody is well, just wanted to ask and see if only I'm going through this problem.

Lately since the past week my network with DU has been really bad, sometimes I wont get a signal or the mobile data and calls will simply not work.

And it is definitely not my phone because I am using other providers and they work fine.

I have tried changing many settings and even reinstalling the Esim but no improvement whatsoever.

If anybody has any ideas or suggestions please do comment, thank you.
