Financial Aid Office

Here’s the yearly friendly reminder to please be patient with your financial aid office. On a normal year they are swamped in August in the time right before/after classes start. It is on a whole new level this year due to OB3 and the heinous amount of issues that are coming along with that.

Schools are receiving outdated or incorrect information from the Department of Education, National Student Loan Database, and COD. School systems are constantly being worked on and updated to try and process the changes from OB3. For those unaware, they did not finalize the majority of OB3 until June and they are still sending out new information each week. This means schools genuinely have not had enough time to update their systems to deal with this and then have to keep changing things as new information comes out.

TLDR; your financial aid office is trying their absolute best while working with a very faulty and incomplete system so please try to be patient with us.

SSCG Grant cutoff to add units?

• Upvotes

I got approved for Cal Grant and SSCG but for 12 units, if I add 3 more units for the second half of the semester, will it give me the $4000 or was there a cutoff at some point to add units for the SSCG?

How long does it take the check to arrive.

So, bankmobile is atrocious. If anyone has any similar experiences and has figured it out, please help me.

I'm a former student who's returning to school at the same community college, my old bankmobile account was closed due to inactivity and when I tried to select/make a new one. I just can't because the website says I already have one when it's inactive and closed... I can't select my personal bank account because whenever I put in all the information, it just pops up a little error message saying I can't for some vague reason, so the only option left was my mail and the check hasn't come yet. It was mailed on October 15th, how long before I should really worry?

HELP!

i’m 19, currently attending community college, and pursuing a nursing degree. I’m almost finished with my Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN), but I still need to complete my RN-to-BSN program. my parents are planning to purchase a house outright (with no mortgage) and then transfer ownership to me as a gift. The idea is that the property may be rented out to other families. Right now, my financial aid covers all my tuition, and I also receive refund checks. I’m worried that having a house in my name could affect my financial aid eligibility, including grants and refund checks, especially when I continue my education through my RN-to-BSN program and other legal issues.

System Generated Submission?

My SAI appeal (Professional Judgment) was approved, and my FAA manually submitted the lowered SAI. However, the FAFSA system immediately ran two "system-generated" submissions that overwrote their manual correction and reverted my SAI back to the old, high number.

My FA office claims they "fixed it" and can't do anything else, despite me showing them the reverted SAI in my submission history. FAFSA support just says to go back to my school. Has anyone navigated this glitch?

Student Loans grace period and graduation date is incorrect among other problems

graduating this semester and my loan provider is aidvantage for context!

2/3 of my loans have entered their grace period despite me not having yet graduated. ive been going between them, my campus financial aid office, and my registrar and im so confused. according to the loan provider, the national database they off of says that i graduated back in may. the registrar provides this information, and when i got back to them, they gave me a document for proof of enrollment and told me to send it off to aidvantage. there's a section on the website dedicated to uploading files, but there wasn't anywhere for proof of enrollment. i email them asking what the fuck do i do with this because obviously the information they provided was wrong. two weeks later they get back to me and say i need to fill out a loan deferment form, have the registrar fill it out, and then mail it back to them. is this correct? i don't need a loan deferment, i need them to have the correct information.

im just frustrated because i feel like i can't get a clear answer, and this isn't even the only problem regarding my financial aid. back in june, i realized that i need to change my financial aid so that it'd only cover the fall. i was told fafsa bundles them together and that i'd just need to fill out a revision form and it'd be fixed. i asked them if this was a normal scenario and they assured me it was and the situation would be corrected, and after weeks (had to keep calling for updates) i got my aid for the fall and paid my remaining balance.

on friday i got an email requesting my enrollment status for winter 27, and asking for the SAME revision form i filled out months ago. they're also saying that if this changes my eligibility, my financial aid for this semester will be pulled and i'll be responsible for paying the remaining balance. they should have this form? ive called and talked to them so many times before and i was assured this was the correct step. im going to talk to them today to clear things up but oh my goddd

the worst part is ive asked everyone i know who's graduating with me and nobody is experiencing anything like this. i did everything i was supposed to, i followed up with people and filled out all the forms they asked for. i applied for fall graduation and my advisor has told me im all set. im about to talk to the financial aid office AGAIN to clear things up and ask my registrar about the deferment forms, but this whole process has taken months just to get the information i need.

if anyone knows what steps to take i would really appreciate it, or if you've experienced something similar! i feel like im going insane lmaooo

Advice Needed!

Hello!!

I am a first year recipient and I kind of over loaded my schedule. I am taking 17 credit hours and I have a D in a 3 hour class and an F in a 4 hour class. I know this is on me, but honestly, the grading in high school is so much more lenient. My professors grade extremely ruthlessly and I do not really understand what I do wrong and there is a language barrier with my 3 hour class that I have a D in.

I am not going to meet the gpa requirement with these grades and my classes do not offer extra credit and it’s already halfway through the semester and I’m not sure I could get my grades up because I thought I did amazing on an exam then got a 13/20 and I do not understand what I do wrong and my grade suffers a lot and I don’t know if I can get the grades I need (a B in my 3 hour class and D in my 4 hour class).

I have spoken to the professors about a plan to help but they are both extremely unhelpful and not understanding. I also had the flu during midterms week which led to my grades getting tanked. I can withdrawal from a class until October 30th and I am not sure if I should just drop my 4 hour Calculus class because then it would lead to me not being able to have a dispersement but I could lose the scholarship if I don’t meet the gpa requirements. Please if you have any advice or in put let me know.

Private school financial aid after remarriage—does a stepparent’s income count?

Has anyone navigated private K–12 school financial aid after getting remarried?

I was previously a single mom and have full custody of my child. I’m now married, and my husband and I have children together. We file taxes jointly, but I remain the main financial provider for child

My husband earns a high income, so I’m wondering how schools and scholarship organizations would evaluate our situation. Would his income count toward our ability to pay, even though I’m responsible for my son’s expenses? Do any programs consider these circumstances individually?

Financial Aid Reliability

This is in regards to the reliability of financial aid within the UC system. My entire college career I have had an SAI of -1500. I have one more year of CC to complete prior to transferring. I have about 333% of my lifetime Pell left and 3.5 years of my Cal Grant B left (in which I just put on hold for 2 years). I will be transferring with a total of 105-110 credits, 4 AA-T degrees (Psychology, Sociology, Philosophy, and Political Science), and a 3.9 GPA. I will be double majoring in Sociology and Psychology, and minoring in Philosophy and Political Science. I am also TAG / Honors-To-Honors eligible.

Ideally, I would like to graduate with my BA and then apply for a PhD program within my field of specialization. I would like to live on campus for my entire academic career. However, I know this may not be feasible.

I would like to know exactly how reliable is financial aid within the UC system. Is room and board a guarantee? Are the financial packages relatively stable? Are there hidden and unanticipated costs that I must account for?

I would like as much information as possible so I can make the arrangements I need to prior to admissions.

So far, I have looked into different programs and avenues to maximize financial aid and secure housing. I have also considered other housing arrangements and other universities.

Does anyone know if I can still get very good financial aid with the CSS profile?

A lot of the schools I'm applying to are private, so they use the CSS Profile to determine your financial aid. My parents income are less than 30k, but home equity is 260k. I want to apply to NYU and other schools with similar programs like NYU Promise because I thought that I would qualify for them, but with my home equity, would I even qualify? Is there a chance I could challenge financial aid if my income is low and my home equity is high?
