I debloated my Panasonic Z85A with a custom UI.

I have a Panasonic Z85A OLED that I typically have hooked up to a 2017 Apple TV 4K. I’m pretty happy with it image wise, but there are some UI aspects that have been subpar, since FireTV is so awful (pictures at the end of the image carousel)

I watch a fair amount of OTA TV, and the Apple TV is a bit long in the tooth for things like YouTube 4k60 YouTube, so regrettably have had to use the inbuilt FireTV UI more than I would like to (I’ve included pictures at the end of

I read about people vibe coding their TVs to turn off ads tracking, and I installed one of the solutions (which I won’t name because even though I have no affiliation I don’t want to be accused of self promoting.) These solutions are really just glorified launchers on Android TV / Fire OS, they don’t require root access or anything, they’re typically just a menu layer on top of the existing UI, but aren’t much deeper than that, but obviously use caution re: security and not harming your TV.

The solution I used had a mediocre UI, and I figured that if I have already gone to the lengths of installing this, I might as well change the design to my taste. This eventually evolved into a fully functioning launcher with inbuilt OTA preview, program guide, and full on live OTA experience that doesn’t require switching to the inbuilt OTA app. I also have a night mode option, pictured.

There are still some things that need to be tweaked, like some text justification in the program descriptions, but I’m really pleased with it. It’s maybe a little in your face but it’s to my taste and honestly I think it looks so much better than FireTV!

I encourage you to do your research, and see if you can make your TV work for you!

PRO TIP: Matter Casting is what's causing your Amazon Echo Show and other Echo devices to change your TV Screen

This is a PRO TIP ANNOUNCEMENT. For da people IN DA BACK!

Turn off Matter Casting (Settings>Sound & Display>Matter Casting>Off),

if you're watching/listening to something on your FireTV (Mine is a TCL 55", built-in FireTV) and your sweet child wants to hear, "Do You Want to Build a Snowman?" on our Amazon Echo Show in the kitchen, so he asks Alexa to play it, and your FireTV in the other room you're in switches to Frosty the Snowman from 1969 automatically, as if Alexa knows you want to cry today watching your childhood before your very eyes, and switches it automatically "for you." Thank you, Alexa, you is the smartestest and is a grate lissener.

All jokes aside, I've been searching for, what feels like, WEEKS to get a damned answer to this and nothing had worked and no one had a straight answer. It was Matter Casting the whole time. No more forced auto-switching to whatever my children are desiring.

Just thought I'd share, in case anyone else is quietly raging about this minor (but majorly annoying) problemo.

Modded my firestick and now found a *hidden?* dev menu

Hello everyone, I have successfully used Monet as my “default launcher” it’s a lot of jargon but essentially I got everything working via adb and coded my own watchdog so when it tries to revert to the original fire TV launcher it automatically flips to Monet.

As I was scrolling through the applications I see this “System Status Monitoring” app and click it and gets greeted with a dev tools menu, It isn’t much I can see developer options and such and can set network proxies, but i definitely want to test this out.

Can anybody see this application too? I think im on the latest fire os.

Any System Wide EQs?

Does anybody know of any way to get a system wide EQ for a tv running fire OS?
My current setup is 2 Kali-LP6 plugged into the tv via 3.5mm jack which output too much bass for my small apartment, annoying my neighbours, so I'm trying to turn down the bass.
The TV doesn't have built in controls for the EQ on the 3.5mm output, so I've tried installing poweramp EQ which works for some apps like spotify, but apps like Jellyfin don't get the EQ applied. I've enabled global EQ and also gave poweramp EQ "DUMP" permissions, but can't figure out how to give it notification listener permissions, which I assume would make it work for all apps.

If anyone knows of a solution I would greatly appreciate it! Thanks!

Color/Brightness Issue in Disney+

I recently noticed that my D+ App isn't displaying mobiles properly. I first noticed it with the new Visionquest series, the image was really desaturated and dim.

Today I wanted to watch PotC again and noticed it too, after some digging online it said to set the Dynamic Range setting of the FireTV to adaptive instead of Always HDR.

It didn't really fix the issue thought, it made the image brighter but the colors were still desaturated. Thinking I might remember the movie more saturated I put on my BluRay and Lo it's much better.

The images with subtitles are from the D+ App, you can See how Off they are compared to the one from the BluRay, I took Care to have the same settings when taking the pictures.

I don't know what else to so right now, anybody having similar issues?

Got a Amazon Ember 4 TV - Any way to disable ads, debloating, root?

Hey everyone,

I got an Amzon Ember 4 TV from a friend.
It was kinda laggy at the beginning but I used Claude + ADB Access to debloat it a bit. Of course I probably just hit the surface.
Does any of you have experience with that device? Is there a way to get rid of telemetry and ads completely?
Any suggestions?
What about rooting? Is it even possible?

Thank you very much in advance

What is special about Fire TV?

I bought the new fire stick tv 4k and plugged it into my Roku TV and i can’t figure out what’s special or different about it over Roku.

Am I missing the appeal of the Fire TV somehow? Is there some functionality that I am overlooking? so far it seems to be less cluttered than the Google TV and Roku layout.

How to turn off screen saver?

I really hate this feature. I went through the trouble of mounting it in the sleeper of my semi. I don't want it shutting itself off and whining about wanting an internet connection every time it comes back on and having to select my PlayStation every time (despite it being set to start there). Is there a way to get rid of this? I previously had an Onn in here that didn't do this.

Volume

One thing that drives me crazy using my firecube vs Apple TV it’s the volume. On the Apple TV. It’s nice and loud and clear. Firecube is so low. I have to turn the volume up so high and it still doesn’t sound the same. I’ve gone through so many setting and so on. Just can’t fix it.

My firetv is stuck in some kind of boot loop?

Hello y’all I hope this is the right sub, my fire TV shut off when we had a power blackout.

when I turned it back on now it just loops with the fire TV logo never actually booting.

I’ve left it unplugged for 24 hours and plugged it back in I’ve also rebooted it from the boot drive and factory reset it and changed the power cable nothing seems to work. Is my TV toast?

Thanks.

Genuinely why

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I (kinda) get a mom and pop shop using AI for a restaurant menu etc., but genuinely what is the logic or incentive here ? How could this be more effective than the literal show trailer ? Why are we being subjected to abject cringe?

My best guess is that there's demand to use AI to justify Amazon's own investment in AI, lil pump scheme for the shareholders.

WiiOS Launcher on Fire TV Cube

Thumbnail

I was finally motivated to debloat my Fire TV device, and found this interesting project on Twitter. I’m not the original creator but have been enjoying it:
https://github.com/MauroProto/wii-tv

Installed it on my rooted Fire TV Cube 3rd gen with Launcher Manager, it replaces your Fire TV home screen, mimicking the classic Wii interface with support for adding your own Mii characters and Games as well!

It takes a little effort to build the apk, use Claude if you need some help with installation.
- Out of the box it shows every app. I patched mine to read a config file so I can pick which apps show and in what order

- Had to create a custom app so that Launcher Manager could open the “com.gathin.home.WiiMenuActivity” app

- Only thing that doesn’t work out of the box is the SD card button, you’ll have to set the specific package you want to open in the Java code.

- Fire TV Cube 3rd Gen bootloader-unlocked with the XDA unlock thread, Thanks Pro-me3us

Firestick Max causing CEC disconnection for other devices

Several times on first switching on my Xbox during the day my avr and TV didn't automatically switch on through cec.Frustrated and trying everything i looked on my TVs cec list of connected devices and it was empty.

After research (Google) I power cycled everything and got everything working.

Today it happened again with my series X so I tried my Nvidia shield, no joy and nothing in the list of CEC devices on my TV menu.

Before power cycling everything yet again I decided to switch on my firestick Max.

Amazingly it worked with cec to my TV and avr so I tried other devices connected and they worked again too.

Checked the TV menu and the CEC devices list was back to normal.

Googled as you do about the firestick max causing problems with other devices that are CEC.

Shocking to find it's a common problem with the fire sticks aggressive CEC handshake.

Is this really that common a problem, new to this forum, other annoyance is the TV going blank when scrolling sideways through YouTube and it switching to the firestick max when it's doing an update whilst I'm using my Xbox or shield

FireTV Cube and YouTube app - Kids Profile only displaying a handful of videos

I'm on a FireTV Cube and using the YouTube app to load my kid's managed profile. We only add certain videos and channels.

The problem is it only displays a random set of videos in one line. I can't put the TV on now to check how many (he's neurodivergent and this is causing meltdowns), but I think it only shows about 6-8 videos. None of the channels are visible. It's just one line of random videos. Internet connection is 900mbs and working fine. Other apps work without issue.

I've tried deleting and reinstalling the app and I get the same result. Any ideas what could be going wrong? I can see all of the approved apps in the kids app on my iPhone and iPad. It's just the FireTV that is not displaying correctly.

Per the troubleshooting tips I found online, I disconnected the TV for 60 seconds and plugged it back in, I cleared the cache on all of the apps.

This alert still won't go away.

Any tips?

Insignia Fire TV audio acting weird. Don’t have remote

I’ve been controlling my fire tv at college with my Xbox all semester because I lost the remote for it. I bought a replacement remote but because of the lack of the original remote I can not pair a new remote to the television. Now the audio is weirding out. Not being loud enough to hear until it’s at like 75 and I can’t seem to fix it without a remote to pair it to a Bluetooth speaker. How do I get a remote attached to it without the original one?

Can’t access the little settings menu holding down home on the remote app anymore

Now that the app updated I can no longer pull up the settings menu by holding down home when I’m on a different display on my fire tv. I use hdmi 1 for my Roku (because my fire tv can’t use any apps now without running out of storage and becoming unusable) and I usually have the tv on when I go to bed and I just turn the display down to be dark. Now I can’t do that because if I go to the actual settings menu and change the display settings it only changes for the fire tv display not any of my hdmis. I’m so beyond annoyed because it worked FINE before this update.

Projectivity pro is a thing now for fire devices

Was installing the new version and now you get a license emailed to you after ordering. I think the play store also gives one, but ordered mine here

https://premium.projectivylauncher.com/

Weird thing is I can't find the premium option on the base site projectivylauncher.com without Googling it. Maybe it's my adblocking DNS?

Did mine last night and finally premium on fire cube.

3rd generation cubes, Only one has new UI

Any idea why only one of them has the new UI? The one with the new UI, has been great and then updated for about a month or two.
