Hi! I'd like to share an app I've been building: Todav, a task list and calendar for Android that keeps everything in Nextcloud through plain CalDAV. It's a native Material 3 app, and it has a GNOME desktop app that works the same way, so your tasks follow you everywhere.
Why I made it
For years I used Tasks.org on Android and Errands on GNOME. They're fantastic apps, but they're two separate apps, and I wanted something that feels like one product on every device, the way Nextcloud Notes does. So I took the Nextcloud Tasks web app as my reference and set out to support everything it does.
A few things kept bothering me:
- Sync between devices wasn't reliable enough. I'd add something on my phone, sit down at my PC, and it wasn't there yet.
- Manual ordering kept breaking, and tasks would rearrange themselves.
- No good layout for wide screens. On my foldable or a tablet I just got a stretched phone UI.
- Drag and drop: my rule became "if it can be done by drag and drop, it should be."
- I wanted native apps on each platform, with settings that sync between them.
Todo was the main idea. The calendar came later, when it turned out to be easy enough to support well, and now planning tasks into the calendar is one of my favourite parts.
What Todav does
- Tasks and calendar in one app: Month, Week, Work Week, 3 Days, Day and Agenda views, with your tasks in them.
- Syncs with Nextcloud by itself, no DAVx⁵ needed. Sign in through the browser or with an app password; if the Nextcloud app is installed, its accounts fill in the server for you. If you keep DAVx⁵ for other apps, both can sync side by side.
- Instant sync built in. With Nextcloud's DAV Push app and a UnifiedPush distributor (the ntfy app, for instance), changes from other devices arrive within seconds. No Google services. It's local-first, so it works offline and catches up later.
- Made for foldables and tablets:
- a navigation bar on phones;
- a navigation rail and a resizable sidebar when unfolded or on a tablet;
- Material 3 Expressive.
- Drag and drop:
- reorder tasks, make subtasks, change a category;
- plan tasks into the hours of the calendar.
- Swipe actions of your choice: complete, star, pin, or delete with Undo.
- Home-screen widgets: a task list, the month, the agenda, a day's hours and a month planner, each with an add button and your colours.
- Quick capture:
- "New Task" from the launcher and a Quick Settings tile;
- share text as a task;
- reminders with "Mark as Done";
- keyboard shortcuts.
- Your other calendars: your phone's Google, Exchange or DAVx⁵ calendars, shown read-only next to your Nextcloud ones.
- Your settings sync between devices through your Nextcloud Files.
- The same manual order as Nextcloud Tasks, and the order of your categories syncs too.
- Nextcloud Tasks conventions: categories as groups, priority as a star, pinned tasks, an Important page.
- Your data stays plain CalDAV. The Nextcloud web apps and other CalDAV clients keep seeing the same tasks, and properties Todav doesn't know are left untouched.
On the desktop too. The GNOME app is native GTK4/libadwaita with the same features:
- tasks and the calendar;
- drag-and-drop planning;
- sign-in through GNOME Online Accounts;
- an optional Shell extension in the top bar;
- search from the Overview.
Your settings carry over from your phone.
Getting it
- Android 10+: the APK from the releases (Obtainium can keep it updated)
- Linux:
- Arch: AUR (
todav, todav-bin, todav-git);
- Ubuntu 26.04+: a
.deb;
- any distribution: a Flatpak bundle or a tarball, all from the releases.
- F-Droid, Play Store and Flathub are planned for early next year.

It's free and open source (GPL-3.0). I use it every day, but it's young, so bug reports and ideas are very welcome. Translators too: English and Polish is reviewed, while the other languages are drafts that need a native speaker.
