Greetings all!

I'm aiming to apply for Global History MA programme next spring, but so far I'm trying to understand my if I'm eligible for it because I hold a bachelor degree in international relations (which according to Q&A on the website is mostly ineligible, but my case is a bit different.)

I have reached out to the department office and sent them a copy of my transcript, but they said the programme coordinator was unsure if I'd be eligible, but they would encourage me to apply.

Here are my questions:

1. I graduated from a four-year undergraduate programme in Russia with extensive history classes. Is it possible that some of my classes' titles are too vague to be considered history-focused in their opinions, which made them unsure about my eligibility? Should I attach the programme syllabi when I apply?

2. Do ECTS credits from researches/courseworks count? I have three separate researches on historical topics which amount to 15 ECTS credits. That combines my pure history classes (20 credits) should meet the 35 ECTS requirements. My GPA by the German standard is 1.8, if that matters. But again, I'm a bit concerned that they might reject me on this ground...

Sorry for the long post. I would be very grateful if anyone could help shed some light on my questions. 🙏

Many people don't know this, but there's a digital map of the Rostlaube/Holzlaube/Silberlaube-complex (the main building complex on Campus Dahlem) that shows you every room and even the way to get there. It's a real life saver if you're ever searching for a certain room!

Save the link at the top or, if you ever lose the link or it doesn't work for some reason, look up "Orientierung fu" in a search engine. The first result should be https://www.fu-berlin.de/redaktion/orientierung/index.html (you can change the language to English by tapping the dots in the top right). Click on "Campus Dahlem" (only "Dahlem" on the English site) and scroll down to "interactive wayfinding system (mobile)". You can see the same map on those big screens that are scattered throughout the building, but I find it more handy to look up where my courses take place the day before.

I've managed to help many people at uni with this map over the years and hope someone here finds it useful too! :)

I’m currently a 5th year bachelor student in Korean studies and I am considering (well, practically dreaming about) applying in next April to the MA Global East Asia (MAGEA) at Freie Universität Berlin and would love to hear from people who are currently studying it or have graduated. There’s very little information about the program beyond the official website, so first-hand experience would really help a lot. =)

A few things I’m curious about:

- How satisfied are you with the program (in terms of content, teaching quality, organization, etc)?

- Did it match your expectations based on the website?

- How intensive is the program in a typical semester? And, from your perspective (I know it's probably really subjective), is it realistic to work part-time alongside the studies?

- If you’re comfortable sharing, what was your approximate undergraduate GPA when you were admitted? To be honest, my GPA now is approximately 1.5 in German-scale system, sooo I'm stressed about it the most...

I am happy that I received my admission and that the enrollment process went smoothly. Now that the semester has started, I am looking forward to this new journey. I have my orientation day tomorrow, and I have plenty of questions to ask the staff, but I was just told that tomorrow at 12:00 is the deadline for signing up for some of the courses, so I guess it is up to me to already apply for some of those seminars.

One of the reasons that I applied to FU was my interest in a more multidisciplinary approach to my studies. I am going to study North American studies at the BA level, but I also hope that I can participate in other programs, mainly global history, cultural studies or even ancient history (although, unfortunately, most of the seminars for this one are only available in German). Those of you who have been studying for a while, would you mind please sharing your experience?

How do you approach making connections with students from other departments? Do you have a more sophisticated way to find interesting seminars, or do you just hop in to see whether you like the course and the teacher or not?

I am really interested in getting to know the experience of other students not only from North American studies, but also from history, cultural studies, and political science. I would really appreciate it if you could share some of your own experiences.

Hi, I'm a prospective student for 2027. I'd like to know a little more about this English taught masters at FU. I'm interested in knowing more about the experience of the program.

What is the student body of this program like? I come from a university with a diverse student body, so I'd like to know if I can expect a mix of international and German students, or just German students from this program. How is the quality of teaching and what kind of day-to-day expectations are set for students? Are elective options limited for students who are not fluent in German?

Im an advanced undergraduate human geography student at the University of Buenos Aires in Argentina. Im thinking of applying to a 4 month exchange at FU Berlin during the summer semester (April to July). From what i gather, some courses are taught in english, and these tend to oriented towards exchange students.

I was trying to consult the 2026 course catalogue from departments like Earth Sciences and History and Cultural Studies but i keep finding that all modules appear under "modules without courses in this semester". I understand that for some cases (for example) its because no english modules were offered that semester. However, in some cases its both english and german modules that appear without courses. I have a couple of questions

1. Whats up with that? Am i missing something or is it frequent for a bachelor to have no courses offered?

2. Is it likely for there to be no english geography B.Sc level courses offered for Sommersemester of next year? Or was this year just a exception? in 2025 a couple were offered so i gather they do exist but dont know how frequent they are.

3. If im not mistaken, in some cases a undergraduate students can get into M.Sc courses depending of the department. Would it be possible for me to do the M.Sc. Geographies of Global Inequalities course, for example?

4. Are there any english courses you would recommend? Im mostly interested in political economy, economic geography, energy transition and geopolitics, but i can get into basically any social science no problem

This is an English-taught programme, and I intend to learn German up to C1 level. I wonder whether non-German students can find internships relatively easily during the programme. Is anyone here planning to choose the MA Tourism & Hospitality Management course for the February intake?

I am an international student for the Global History program. I was told in September the course catalogue would be open to see courses. But currently it just shows this message. Also I'm a little confused about course enrollment, can you not register for courses until October 1st? Any help about course enrollment or the information that you know on it would be great.

Also when is secondary enrollment at Humboldt University due? Cause it's annoying to mail stuff and from the US it's 250$ to mail papers over, so I was just waiting until I got back to Berlin next week.

hello everyone! I am currently studying biological sciences in thailand for a bachelors, and I am very interested into pivoting into an astro field further in my studies. Hence, i am very interested in applyting to freie university of berlin.

i recently enrolled into FU as an international MA student and i was setting up my FU email account and i find the email (zedat) interface absolutely horrible. i saw on some FAQs that i could migrate my email to a different server but it turns out i can't open the email through the Outlook app (bc apparently the university doesn't subscribe to the app version, but only the desktop version which i still can't access) and by then, i had already gone through the very tedious and troublesome process of registering an affiliated Microsoft 365 account. i then tried to migrate my email to Thunderbird, but when i tried emailing myself, i could not receive any notifications. i also have forwarded my FU email to my personal gmail account, but i still couldn't receive any notifications. my main issue is that i want to be able to receive email notifications on my phone/ipad as i don't have my laptop with me most of the time.

to current FU students: how do you navigate this horrid email interface? must i suck it up and stick to the default server? or am i doing something wrong and i can save myself from this agony and move back to the familiarity and ease of Outlook

Hallo zusammen, ich suche nach einem ehemaligen Studenten aus Berlin, der um den Jahreswechsel 2006/2007 im Rahmen eines Austauschprogramms oder Auslandsprojekts in Rio de Janeiro war.

Er reiste damals in Begleitung eines lokalen brasilianischen Freundes aus der Stadt Nilópolis, der fließend Englisch sprach, klein war und Afro-Zöpfe (Tranças Nagô) trug. Ein markanter Treffpunkt kurz vor der Rückreise nach Deutschland war der Club "Via Show".

I have applied for masters in physics in FU berlin, and i got an email asking me to give a test. they claimed that my degree was not equivalent to the german bachelors degree, but the modules they listed (maths, mechanics, quantum mechanics, and condensed matter physics) are all papers that i have already completed in proper depth in my bachelors. Did anyone else receive this email? If anyone has given this test, can you let me know the level of the test, and how to prepare? How is this test graded? I could not find anything about this test anywhere, even on their official website.
