Missing Black Cat - PLEASE HELP!!

Post image
72 Upvotes

Hi, I have not previously posted on this sub, but my friend lost her cat in the Langside area on Saturday the 24th, and this seemed like the best way to spread the word as fast as possible.

His name is Oscar, is a year old, is a sweetheart and an absolute cuddle bug, and was last seen around the afternoon on the 24th.

If anybody lives in and around the area, or knows someone who does, please, please spread the word and keep an eye out!! Please do also check your garages, backyards, and any such small spaces if you live in the area, as he might have crawled in during the storm.

Any information would be much appreciated!

Omniplex plus

Has anyone on here got the monthly Omniplex plus subscription? Looking to see if it’s worth getting as I’m desperately missing my old Cineworld card

Heard someone say it’s not really worth it at £14.99 cause you still have to pay a £1 booking fee everytime you book, anyone confirm if that’s true I can’t find much about it online?

First Bus comms are poor

Another FB rant... Paisley Rd W is closed for a section for resurfacing. This has been advertised well in advance but nothing on route diversions on First Bus website even now. I normally change to get the 34 at the Morrisons but that section is closed. Am I now just meant to guess where its going?

Where to try horse riding

Hey all, I have always wanted to try horse riding - I’m originally from a country where it’s quite a normal village thing to do, but I’ve noticed that it’s more of a upper middle class thing in the UK?

Is there a place around Glasgow where you can look after horses and learn how to ride one that’s not insanely expensive?

Small Ideas Initiative - Glasgow Edition

I contributed a few ideas to the Money Saving Expert spin off Small Ideas. If you haven't heard of it, it's crowd sourcing pratical, do-able, and relatively inexpensive fixes for the country. One of the ideas on the homepage is someone whacking together a universal allergy symbol system, for example.

Anyhow, I genuinely think Glasgow would benefit from something similar. Yes, the city has a whole load of systemic issues, but I reckon there's a whole bunch of simple ways you could improve it, too.

What would you do?

inb4: ban orange walks and harvest the ideas for a Glasgow Living article.

Eating Out Best burgers

Hiya folks, I’m looking for peoples recs for burgers in Glasgow. Big burgers, wee burgers, smash burgers, cheap burgers, plant-based burgers. All of them.

I’m starving and I want to try them all! Well, most within a reasonable non-heart attack getting time frame.

My old favourite burger was the highland coo at BRGR (rip) so what’s yours?

Tenement home insulation grant - legit?

Post image
2 Upvotes

I've just received this through the post claiming I can get a grant for wall insulation.

Has anyone carried through with this? Is it legitimate? The letter doesn't seem legitimate and I've never heard of Save Energy Scotland (seem similar to Home Energy Scotland but unaffiliated with an official government grant scheme)

Looking for feedback on whether it's BS or not

20 yr old moving to Glasgow from Canada- what should I know?

I’m 20 years old and recently graduated from film school. I’m in a “what the fuck am I doing” period of life and decided moving abroad is the way to go. The ultimate goal would be to try and do some work as a runner in the film world for a bit to see if I can work my way up or just make some connections. If I’m being honest I more so want to move for the experience- as I’ve lived in my small town my whole life. Anything I should know about the city or any cultural things I should know.

edit: whoops didn’t expect so many people to respond. Here’s some missing context I forgot to add.

I’ve been researching this for a few months (since June) and have had a savings plan since then. I don’t plan on moving until next year (October 2027). I’ve already got a decent savings going because I know how expensive it is over there. I’m mostly curious about the culture over there and what I should expect. And I’m also curious about the weather- as Canada has some intense winters and wonder if Glasgow is the same.

Also curious- what is the night life like over there?

Also I’m a lesbian. Is Glasgow a a safe place for the lesbians.

(Apologies if I seem ignorant or rude- I’m genuinely just very curious and really appreciate everyone trying to educate me and give me good advice)

Where best to practice how to ride my cycle?

Im 25 and I just learnt how to ride a cycle Im embarrassed 😭 I finally got learnt how to balance on it, I have a patch of meadow where I live where I've been practicing riding it, but now i wanna move to a larger surface area and do more practice as eventually I wanna ride it on the roads to get to uni and work etc etc. Any recommendations for a good big park in or around Glasgow where I can practice without risking going over walkers as Im still struggling to wheel in a straight line? As long as I can get there via train as I dont drive, tia

Anyone managed to get NHSGGC to fund private treatment because of delays?

Has anyone here ever managed to get NHSGGC, or another Scottish health board, to pay for private treatment because the NHS service couldn’t actually provide it in a reasonable timeframe?

I’m on an urgent pathway and my consultant went on unplanned leave on 15 October. As far as I’ve been told there’s no return date and nobody else has taken over their patients.

I’ve asked about being moved to another consultant but haven’t really got anywhere.

I ended up paying privately for another opinion and have now been offered a private procedure really quickly, but it’s about £5k.

I’m seriously considering taking on a load of debt just to get it dealt with, which feels mad when I’m already on an urgent NHS pathway.

I know NHS Scotland can sometimes use other health boards, treatment centres or private providers when they don’t have capacity, but I’ve no idea how realistic that actually is.

Has anyone managed to get this approved?

Who did you speak to — complaints, service manager, waiting times, PASS, consultant, someone else?

Did you have to specifically ask for an “alternative provider” or private-sector treatment?

And did the NHS arrange it directly, or did you pay and somehow get reimbursed?

Mainly interested in NHSGGC experiences, but any Scottish health board experience would be useful. In a lot of pain and would take this surgery in a back alley basement today if it meant not being in pain.

Gully cleaning - fine?

Gully cleaning on my street today and I didn’t bother to check when it was happening - heard the truck outside so went and moved my car.

No parking notices or anything left on my car (there were a few others too) - is this something they’d usually have someone out photographing before or after or would the truck have a camera picking up all the illegally parked cars? 🥲

If I have to pay it then I will as it’s entirely my own fault but hoping I can avoid a fine 🤦🏻‍♂️🙌🏻

Anyone know how to give positive feedback to NHS hospital staff?

(Sorry if wrong sub)

My 3 year old was treated at minor injuries in Monklands and the staff were fantastic with him - particularly the nurse. They made every effort to make him feel calm while getting X-rays which is understandably very difficult with a 3 year old who was extremely upset. They went above and beyond for him. I have the names of the staff members and want to pass on positive feedback. I did Google but it’s just telling me about complaints procedures.

EDIT: thanks everyone, I’ve done Care Opinion and I’ll post a card

Wyndford road regeneration project and buying property

Hi everyone. I'm a first time buyer, I don't have that much money so I'm leaving Edinburgh and going to Glasgow where property is more affordable. I'm buying because I've had years (5) or unexpected moves due to property being sold, mould problems or unexpected family needing the house I live in And I just don't ever want to be caught out like that again.

I've been seeing the many many apartments at wynford road and research led me to seeing the regeneration project and I'm assuming people don't want to live in a building site for years.

I'm wondering if anyone has an opinion on buying in the area now. It's probably the lowest price one would ever pay living so close to the west end and botanics. Rover walkway on your doorstep. But building site for maybe 3 or 4 years.

If the project is turning the area into affordable housing , what does this mean for the area in the future. Would they decide to knock more places down?

Anyone currently live there and have any feelings about staying or going whilst this project is ongoing

Personal trainers

Hi! I was wondering if anyone knows of any personal trainers who would be okay with just one session in Glasgow? I’m a student and can’t afford one at the moment, but I’m trying to figure out how to lift weights and gain muscle, and I feel like my form is terrible. It would be great if they were a woman as well !! Thank you <3
