So, let's get this out of the way: I have not been keeping up with anything in the Marvel universe since Avengers Endgame. So I haven't seen any more Spider-Man movies or any Hulk-related content. Though I have seen reviews on She-Hulk (and I'm never going to watch that series simply because of how bad it sounds). But anyways, now that that's out of the way, oh boy.
As someone who actually semi-likes this version of Spider-Man, (Though TASM will always be my favorite) this was a pretty good movie. Now I know the whole memory erasing thing is a plot point in a comic, but I don't really understand why Peter had everyone's memories erased of him instead of just erasing the memories of the people knowing that he's Spider-Man.
And I really don't understand why he's suddenly struggling with his powers. Well, I shouldn't say suddenly, but it's just really weird how he's just struggling with his powers. Is it just meant to be showing that he's struggling to integrate the two parts of himself, Spider-Man and Peter Parker, since he is shown to be working 24/7 in the beginning half of the movie?
I definitely think that Bruce and Hulk are pretty underutilized in the movie, because first of all, it doesn't really make much sense why Hulk would recognize Peter, when I know in the comics the two apparently have a friendship. But in the movies, I don't remember the two interacting at all. Peter and Bruce, yeah, but Peter and Hulk, I haven't seen them interact once. But like I said, I haven't watched anything since Avengers: Endgame, so maybe they have interacted and I've just never seen it before. I don't know. Also, I've seen a lot of Hulk fans say that BND Hulk is just as savage as he is in The Incredible Hulk 2008 movie, but I don't really agree. Maybe it's just because the fight is a lot shorter than in the 2008 movie, but I feel like Hulk there is a lot more aggressive and violent. And yeah, this Hulk is definitely that, but I just... I don't know how to describe it. I just feel like he was held back.
Also, I don't understand why Hulk would suddenly calm down at Peter calling him Bruce, when doesn't he normally hate being called that? Which is understandable, he wants to be called by his own name, not by Bruce. So why wouldn't he just get angrier instead of suddenly calming down? Maybe it's because he's actually stopping to think about what he's doing. And speaking of that, it doesn't make much sense to me why he goes feral on Peter in the first place. I get that he's upset about being caged inside by Bruce, but in the past, if we're following the 2008 movie and who Hulk basically is, I've always personally thought that he would only attack in defense of himself or in defense of others. So it makes no sense why he'd attack Peter, who didn't do anything to him.
So yeah, that's pretty much my thoughts on the movie. I don't know. I think it was a pretty good Spider-Man movie, and I actually liked the portrayal of Jean in this movie, but I just wasn't a fan of how Bruce and Hulk were in this movie. Feel free to agree or disagree! 😊
