Hi, I posted in here over the summer about making a Hurling/Camogie video game. We've been working on it for a while, bringing in an artist and developing the mechanics. We're taking an Irish myths-and-legends approach, which you can see in the art for Finn/Meabh. We're implementing characters in-game, and we've got the basic skills and multiplayer in place. It's more arcade (thinking Rematch/Rocket League but with a Hurl). Any comments or ideas are welcome. You can follow the game on Steam or follow us on YouTube/TikTok (TheSportsGamesCo.).

How did you guys feel about the games?

I play in the USA, I find myself running out of steps sometimes when working thru traffic with people holding back arms to some degree and what not/ hurls. I understand that it seems normal, when watching Irish games, to just drop the ball to avoid a call if being held up in heavy traffic. Drop from the hand holding it, just let it go.
Am I allowed to strategically do this and pick the ball back up with my hurl after dropping it?

For example

I’m carrying the ball in hand and already used my reset, then take a challenge from a defender. I am at my step limit and am unable to get the ball onto my hurl to solo/ spike it. Can I drop the ball in front of me with my momentum, and lift it again with the hurl off the bounce?

Ireland take on Scotland at Páirc Uí Chaoimh this Saturday, with the women's game at 4pm and the men's at 6pm. On a scale from a Junior B match to an All-Ireland final, where does it sit for you? Curious whether hurling folk actually rate it or see it as a novelty.

It has every result from the Red FM Division 1 HL and the Co Op Superstores Premier SH Championship, with club analysis pages, comparisons, season records, etc. Biggest margin was Sarsfields 1-34 (37) v Douglas 0-13 (13), 24 points.

The game will feature Inter-county competitions + club senior, intermediate and junior level competitions with a completely editable database which can expand each level of each county competitions up to 12 tiers and a variety of formats.

Buckley seems to have a great online presence - I’m really enjoying their IG page. I’m thinking about ordering a couple hurleys to the States, but I’m having trouble finding much from customers.

Has anyone purchased their hurleys here? If so, what do ya think?

My son has been asked to trial for the minor county team, just wondering if anyone knows if he were to get a place on the panel would he expected to drop all other sports?

My club hosted our annual Scruffy City Invitational here in Knoxville TN this weekend. So I decided I would take the broken hurls of the past year and make some new tap handles for the afters. A small perk of being a craft brewery owner, fun tap handles sometimes.

Any suggestions on how to fix this cracking my new Hurley?

Hi lads, clubber are taking the piss out of me at this stage. I want to watch 2 matches today which will cost me €40 to stream them. It would be cheaper for me to get in my car and drive there to watch them both. But I cannot.

Does anyone know somewhere I can stream the match online that doesn’t cost me €40?

Probably an insane question: I bought a hurley that is entirely too big for me and likely too big to donate to anyone I know. I’m based in the States so my hurling circle of friends is quite small. It’s a 35 Martin Premium and is quite heavy. It’s just collecting dust right now as I’ve recently purchased a Fitzgerald hurley that’s a 34. I’m 5’11/6 foot and a big enough guy to swing a heavier hurley, but this 35 is just too big.

Ramblings aside, I was thinking about shortening the 35. My thought process was to cut about 1-2 inches from the handle and take out 2 inches. Then wood glue/dowel/screw the remaining pieces together. I’d sand down the sides to more or less align.

Has anyone done anything like this before or am I just ruining a hurley?

If this is dumb, just say so.

I’ve got a small crack in my hurley and I’m wondering if it’ll need wood glue and a clamp or just some super glue. Anyone got any ideas?

Hand hurts like hell after catching a few sliotars. Any advice on how to avoid this? Is it a technique issue? Gloves?

Hello, you guys provided great advice on matches to attend a few weeks ago while I was in Ireland with my son (from the States). My son has been playing for a year now and is really getting into it. I’ve started taking “learn to hurl” classes so that I can practice with him and not be a glorified wall.

I was hoping this group might be able to provide some resources I could read/watch to continue getting better. I’ve watched a number of YouTube videos on proper swinging technique, sideline cuts, etc. We also have GAA+ and try to watch the matches when they align to our schedule.

Student in a Belfast school and we started a Hurling team up to under 14 level and I’ve found myself as an assistant coach and I’ve never played hurling. Any tips or advice is welcome

Looking to move clubs sometime in the next year as I plan to move away from home, more than likely to Dublin. The only problem is I'm a goalkeeper. I've never really played anywhere else. I have intercounty experience and I'd like to think I'm pretty good, but I feel like as a blow in that won't be taken very well. I'd either be taking someone's spot or not getting any game time at all. Would it be worth asking a few clubs whether they need a goalkeeper or not before deciding?

It seems that big changes are on the way in Waterford. I really like that they are holding open trials but inevitably that means making cuts.

Some big names in doubt for 2027 including Dessie Hutchinson and Austin Gleeson. Great servants for the county over the years but their time has come.

Does Waterford have the talent needed to produce a competitive inter county team?
