Politics and Government Who's your corporator, Hyderabad? Trick question: GHMC hasn't had any since February

Can you name your ward, MLA and MP without Googling? Most of us can name the CM, some ministers and stop there.

Hyderabad has an extra twist: GHMC's elected council ended on 10 Feb 2026, so right now there are no corporators at all. Polls are expected later this year (Dec 2026).

I made this 2.5 minute video about why knowing who to approach matters more than shouting at everyone. The phone screens are real, recorded for Ameerpet: Ward 202 (SR Nagar), Sanathnagar assembly, the Secunderabad parliamentary seat, and tagging the GHMC Commissioner on a broken-footpath complaint. It also shows the Hyderabad Metro expansion campaign on the platform (6-coach trains, Phase 2).

Honest question: before watching, could you have named your MLA?

For context, I eat out a lot (second pic is some of my saved places) and have always felt there should be a way to check up on a place’s hygiene and food safety before I eat there. With the food safety inspections getting a lot more active lately, it was finally possible to set this up.

Here is the site: https://aftertaste.city

Current Events Solution for water crisis.

Hi everyone, don't you think there should be an option for permanent WFH from our respective cities?

Considering the current water crisis, the best solution would be to allow employees to work from home for a few months, at least until the situation improves.

Many of us migrated to Hyderabad for jobs that require only 2 days of WFO, and even that feels like a mere formality because most of the work is happening remotely anyway. And for that 2 days WFO we are sitting 5 days here at home in this city and putting pressure on scarce water.

In other parts of the world, remote work is encouraged to reduce overcrowding, ease traffic congestion and improve work life balance. Here, so many of us have migrated from different cities and states, putting up with PG food, constantly ordering food from outside and compromising our health and well being just to fulfil office attendance requirements.

At the same time, the increasing population beyond the city's capacity is putting additional pressure on its already strained resource water.

The situation is concerning because we haven't even entered the summer months yet. If this is the state of affairs in October, imagine what things could look like by April!

Allowing employees to work remotely from their respective cities would not only ease the pressure on Hyderabad's infrastructure and water resources up until situation improvises.

Rather than waiting for the situation to get worse, wouldn't it make more sense to encourage WFH for the next few months and reassess things once the situation improves?

Also if water tankers prices soars we will have to pay extra charges for it to the PG mafia, who will try to profit from it as well.

AskHyderabad ⬆️ Anyone here planning to buy a new car in Hyderabad in the next 30–60 days? Testing a bulk-buying experiment against local dealers.

Hey everyone,

If you've ever tried negotiating a new car in Hyderabad (whether at Varun, KUN, Malik, or Tejaswi), you know how exhausting it is—visiting 4 showrooms from Banjara Hills to Gachibowli, haggling over inflated ₹60k showroom insurance quotes, and wondering if you're getting a fair on-road price.

I'm validating a startup idea specifically for Hyderabad and want your honest feedback before we scale it:

The Concept: Instead of waiting for 10 people who want the exact same variant and color (which takes forever), we group 8 to 10 serious buyers in Hyderabad who are buying the same BRAND (for example, 10 people buying any Hyundai—Creta, Venue, Exter, Verna—in the same month).

To a single Hyderabad dealership GM, 10 cars at once is ₹1.2 to ₹1.8 Crore in instant billing, which helps them hit their monthly OEM target slab in one shot.

How we're thinking of running it:

  1. Zero identity spam: Dealers don't get your phone number. Competing authorized dealers in Hyderabad submit sealed, line-by-line on-road bid
  2. Free for buyers: We don't charge buyers a commission (we plan to monetize via bank loan referrals and a flat fee from the winning dealership).

Two quick questions to validate this:

  1. If you're planning to buy a car in Hyderabad soon, what brand/model are you looking at, and what would make you hesitant to join a 10-buyer batch?
  2. Would you be comfortable putting down a 100% refundable ₹1,999 intent deposit (held until you see and accept the final dealer quote) just to keep window-shoppers out so dealers give us serious quotes?

Would love your brutal honesty—or if you're actually buying a car this month/next month, drop your model in the comments so I can see which brand hits 8–10 people first!

AskHyderabad ⬆️ Atheists from Muslim families in Hyderabad, I need your advice.

This post is not an attack on any religion. Those with fanatical beliefs who cannot engage respectfully are requested to stay away.

Now, this is specifically for people who no longer believe but have to hide their atheism from their Muslim families although people from other religions are open as well.

In a wicked society like India, how do you navigate family expectations, religious obligations, and the pressure to eventually get married? How do you manage living a life where being honest about your beliefs might come at a cost?

Gay and LGBTQ+ folks are absolutely welcome to join this discussion, too. For those who feel pressured into heterosexual marriage, have you considered lavender marriages? What are your thoughts and experiences?

Please keep the discussion anonymous and avoid sharing identifying details. Let's have an honest, respectful conversation without judgment.

AskHyderabad ⬆️ Any avid video games fans out there?

Given how dense hyderabad's population is, I was expecting to find many people who enjoyed rpgs, jrpgs and obscure games. I grew up playing games like skies of arcadia, trails, tales of, parasite eve, xenogears, final fantasies, suikodens, crono cross, grandia's, system shock 2( have yet to complete 1) and the like and its surprising I have yet to find a single person who knows anything about these games let alone other obscure games like xanadu, septerra core or others. While I sometimes hear people mentioning legend of zelda, or other AAA games in the wild, it would be good to have someobody in my city who enjoys and talks about these games. Are there any hidden communities for such discussions?

Books & Literature 📕 🖋️ My debut novel received its first five 5-star reviews on Amazon

Post image
21 Upvotes

Hi everyone!

I recently published my debut novel, It Was All My Fault, a lighthearted romantic comedy about friendship, first crushes, and nostalgia, set in Araku Valley.

I'm happy to share that my book has received its first five reviews on Amazon India, and all five are 5-star ratings

What makes me even happier is that two of these reviews came from people I don't personally know.

One reader described it as

"A well written story blending friendship, humour, relatable emotions, and the bittersweet charm of first crush. A lighthearted and enjoyable read!"

Another reader mentioned that the best takeaway from the book was that good friends are for life.

As a first-time author, it really feels good to know that people are enjoying my story.

The Kindle edition is available on Amazon India and Kindle Unlimited. The paperback is available internationally, and the Indian paperback edition will be available soon.

If you enjoy stories about friendship, first love, and nostalgia, please give my book a try. I'd love to hear your feedback!

Book: It Was All My Fault
Author: Swaroop Devarakonda

Thank you!

Current Events Free bus for women and more struggles for men

Post image
16 Upvotes

Honestly, the Mahalakshmi free bus travel scheme has created increasing discomfort for men who commute daily to work using public transport. Previously, women generally occupied the front seats, while men used the back seats. However, the increased demand following the introduction of this scheme has made commuting more uncomfortable, particularly during peak hours.

Working men who contribute significantly to supporting their families are also struggling with overcrowding and the lack of available seats. Even elderly male passengers are finding it difficult to get seats, and arguments over seating have become increasingly common between women.

Moreover, the changes in bus fares around the time of the scheme's introduction raise questions about the financial burden on male passengers and the sustainability of the transport system.

I'm not against women or free bus travel, but shouldn't such benefits prioritize those who genuinely need financial assistance rather than being extended universally, regardless of economic circumstances?

Policies should be drafted carefully, keeping everyone's needs in mind rather than focusing exclusively on a particular gender. Women deserve accessible transport, but so do working men and elderly male passengers. The government should consider the impact on all commuters and ensure that public transport remains accessible, affordable, and comfortable for everyone.

What has your experience been with overcrowding and seat availability on Hyderabad's buses since the scheme was introduced?

Scam Alert🚨 Hyderabad Home Interiors Scam — Our Experience with Smrithi Designz and Owner Srikanth. Please Be Careful Before Hiring

Post image
17 Upvotes

I’m sharing our experience to warn others who are planning to get their home interiors done in Hyderabad.

We hired Smrithi Designz, run by Srikanth, after receiving a referral from undergrad. We handed over our house in May, waited for months, and by October, we were forced to move in with the interiors still incomplete.

The experience has been absolutely pathetic. Calls go unanswered for weeks. Getting the owner to respond when something needs fixing or clarification has been an exhausting struggle. The workers at the site often seem to have no clear instructions or understanding of what needs to be done. There is little coordination, accountability or ownership of the work.

We also have serious concerns about the factory materials and hardware supplied, particularly whether they match what was promised to us. We are documenting these issues and intend to pursue legal remedies.

What makes this even worse is the timing. Our wedding is right around the corner, and instead of enjoying what should be one of the happiest periods of our lives, we are dealing with unfinished interiors, unanswered calls and constant stress. This experience has taken an enormous emotional toll on us.

Full quoted amount was taken from us well before completion with a blackmail of not being able to purchase material without payment.

The frustrating part is that promises are made, but the actual work and follow-through have not lived up to them. We have been left chasing the very people we hired to deliver our home.

If you are considering Smrithi Designz, please choose someone else. Do your due diligence before signing a contract or making payments. Get every material and hardware specification in writing, inspect supplies, establish clear completion milestones, and speak directly to multiple previous customers.

I’m posting this because I wish we had known more about other customers’ experiences before proceeding. If anyone here has dealt with Smrithi Designz or Srikanth, I would appreciate hearing about your experience, especially how you handled incomplete work or material disputes.

AskHyderabad ⬆️ Why do people assume I’m Muslim just because I eat beef?

I’m from Hyderabad, and I genuinely love exploring different kinds of food, especially non-veg! I love beef too, but I don’t understand why it becomes such a big deal whenever I mention it!

Whenever I tell someone I like beef or that I’ve eaten it, people immediately ask, “Are you Muslim?” 😭 Some even act like I’ve said something wrong and tell me not to talk about it!

Like, why? Since when did food preferences become a way to guess someone’s religion?

I understand that food is connected to religion, culture, and personal beliefs, and I respect that! But why can’t people accept that someone enjoys a particular food without making assumptions about their religion?

I’m curious to know what other people think, especially fellow Hyderabadis! Have you experienced something similar? Why do you think beef is such a sensitive topic in India?
