For the rest of your life, your ability to learn skills and acquire knowledge is accelerated and is tied only to hours spent studying and learning. The learning does not need to be in one hour blocks, any time spent learning will contribute towards your goal. However, the learning does need to be of good quality – focussed, goal-oriented, and pushing the limit of current skill levels. It is likely that you will need outside support to achieve good quality of learning, including reading materials, online research, peer support and coaching. If you spend an hour on poor quality self-directed learning, you might only gain a few minutes of progress.
This applies to every domain in which you apply yourself, and you can choose to develop as many skills as you wish. You are not limited by natural aptitude - if you put in the time, you will achieve the goal. However there are no miracles or superskills.
You will see incremental improvements every 10 hours as you progress, but there will be a significant jump as you achieve each milestone.
After 50 hours, you are better than 50% of people who study this domain.
After 200 hours, you are in the top 20% of practitioners.
After 500 hours, you are in the top 2% of practitioners.
After 1500 hours, you are in the top 20 practitioners worldwide.
You will receive a handheld electronic advice where you can monitor your own progress in any domain, so you know how many hours you need to add to get to the next milestone. If you already have skills, the device will automatically rate your current level and place you relative to your next milestone. This might not reflect the actual hours spent learning previously, if your learning was ineffective.
You have to fund all of this by yourself, including your normal living costs. There are no shortcuts through normal progression, so for example if your goal is to become a top 20 F1 racing driver, you will have to start where you can afford such as in karting, and progress through to where you can either afford to move up, or someone will sponsor you at higher levels – you cannot start in an F1 car.
You can develop skills for any reason of your choosing – you can monetise, seek fame and adulation, progress human knowledge, or just for your own pleasure.
What are you putting the hours into?
