Anyone in Islington working to create impact for people or the planet?

Networking is BORING! If you care about impact and nature, we (33M and 36F) have an incredible event lined up for you this week - that helps you connect with like-minded professionals whlle you find a moment of calm and some clarity over a decision you're (over)thinking.

We've curated the experience with breathwork and cacao so you can slow down and be fully present.

📅 Date: Wednesday 28 Oct, 7-9pm
📍 Venue: House of Moon Studio, Islington Studious
🎟️ Tickets: Send me a DM

This was how someone described the experience: “My brain was going bananas the whole time and I only realise that because after taking the cacao it finally went to rest, I’d forgotten how quiet my mind can be and it was a great feeling. I really enjoyed the experience. It was absolutely brilliant. Thank you both very much”

We'd love to see you there ❤️

Into something most people have never heard of? I'd love to film your story

Hi all,

I'm Fiishtank2474 , a filmmaker based in London, and I'm starting a series of short documentaries about the niche hobbies and subcultures people throw themselves into across the UK. Think Beyblade, circus and flow arts, DJing in a specific niche, or anything else you're passionate about that most people don't know much about.

These won't be "how-to" films or anything that pokes fun. The focus is you: why you started, what it gives you, the people you've met, and what it means to be part of something a bit off the beaten track.

What's involved:

- An initial chat (phone, video or coffee) with no commitment

- A relaxed interview on camera

- Some filming of you doing your thing, whether that's practice, a gig, a meet-up or a competition

You don't need any experience being on camera, and you don't need to be the best at what you do. Beginners, veterans, organisers and people who just love it are all welcome.

You'll get to see the finished film before it goes out.

If this sounds like you (or someone you know), drop me a DM or email [fiishtank2474@gmail.com](mailto:fiishtank2474@gmail.com) with a little about yourself and your hobby.

Thanks for reading!

The Fields Beneath is doing a Halloween craft market on the Hunter’s Full Moon, which is either a coincidence or very much on purpose. Tarot readings, handmade candles, art prints and crochet from a small roster of independent makers, plus a charity raffle for Streets Kitchen.

The Headless Horseman, a terrified schoolteacher and a town that can’t tell ghost story from reality. Tower Theatre’s half-term production of the Washington Irving classic, played for chills and laughs in equal measure. From £10, ages 11 and up.

--

Night Maps | 📍Warburg Institute, WC1H | 21 October - 17 April | Free

An exhibition at the Warburg tracing how humans have mapped the night sky from medieval courts to the 21st-century space race, and what those maps were really being used to say about power on earth. World maps from the 13th to 19th centuries from the Sunderland Collection, running through to April.

--

Touchy Feely | 📍Lumen Church, WC1H | 24 October | (£)

You know how ceramics exhibitions make you want to pick things up and you can’t? This one is built entirely around that. Susurri Shop fills a church with 30+ gallery-worthy drinking vessels by master ceramicists from Japan — and you’re encouraged to hold them, turn them, feel how fire and time shaped them.

--

A Homemade Evening with Nara Smith | 📍Union Chapel, N1 | 25 October | (£)

Nara Smith, the TikTok cook with millions watching her make bread and butter from scratch in a ballgown, comes to Union Chapel for a live conversation with Rochelle Humes about food, motherhood and the autoimmune diagnosis that started it all.

Looking for someone who helped me after a cycling accident in Islington – 7 October

Hi everyone,

Bit of a long shot, but I’m hoping to track down a kind gentleman who stopped to help me after a Lime bike accident on Wednesday 7 October, at approximately 7:15am, on Willow Bridge Road near Abbots Close, Islington (N1 2LB).

I was struggling to get up after falling, and he kindly moved the bicycle out of the road and helped me end my journey.

Unfortunately, I was in considerable pain and shock, having fractured my ankle, and didn’t manage to get his contact details.

I’d really appreciate getting in touch to thank him and ask what he remembers about that morning.

If this was you, or you know someone who might have helped, please send me a private message.

I’d be incredibly grateful if anyone local could help spread the word.

Thanks so much!

Any gyms in Essex road?

Hi,

Does anyone know of any gyms that are around Essex road and hopefully don't break the bank? Whatever I've found on Google is beyond my pay grade. I just need something to do some strength training and is ideally female friendly.

Islington Council 'Homes for Hotter Summers' Pilot

Hello everyone!

I'm a local resident in Islington and a student journalist at City St George's writing a story on Islington council housing.

I attended the local council meeting last night where the council confirmed planning to build 24 council homes in Harvist Estate. I'm looking to chat to people to share their views, whether that be positive or negative.

Or if anyone has experience of overheating in Islington over the extremely hot summer. For example what are your views on the 'cool spaces' the council set up last summer?

Please feel free to comment on this post or to message me directly.

Thank you for your help!

Loud Leaf blower(?) at 5:00am on Pentonville Road?

Does anyone else living near Pentonville Road hear a really loud leaf blower at around 5:00am-5:30am each morning?

I just live off the middle of Pentonville Road but the noise gets me up each morning. I can’t make heads or tails of what the noise is and where it’s coming from. Driving me insane!

Socials and Jokes

Hey folks,

I'm doing a series of catchups, if you're looking to meet new people within the Islington area and having a laugh starting next Tuesday 6.30pm - 9pm.

I'll be at the Islington Townhouse (Angel) for a social event for people to meet and greet (6.30pm) followed by a comedy show (hosted by me 7.30pm - 9pm).

If you're interested drop a DM and I'll add you all to a WhatsApp group, if you're just interested in the comedy part, I've reshared the post and link below.

If you think the comedy isn't great you can also heckle me 🤣

Fireworks were being let off in Holloway just a few minutes ago. I witnessed a group of teenagers running down my road afterwards. Worth being aware if you're out walking dogs, with children, or if loud bangs are a concern.

Chapel Market changes

I was sitting having a drink at the Alma today and noticed Hair Base has been replaced by The Zip Yard.

Yard Sale Pizza has opened on one of the corners and Charlies, a smart looking caff (never been into) opened a few months back.

There always seems to be change along this road.

Any new shops/ businesses that you rate or ones lost that you miss?
