Throwback POV: Being a Katycat in 2019
2019 was such a good year for us! Everything was so colourful and I remember there was so much hype that summer. We were being FED.

In a short interview from 2008—early in her mainstream career—Katy was asked how she envisioned her career 10 years down the line. Among other things, she mentioned that she intended to record an acoustic album. Well, we’ve reached the final quarter of 2026, Katy—I’d say we’re running a bit behind schedule. It makes me wonder why, in nearly 20 years, she has never managed to carve out the space to release an album like this—something more intimate and less commercial. Did she never find the right inspiration? Or perhaps Capitol Records never allowed her to produce it? Regardless, I still hold out hope that she’ll release it, because I know it’s something she has always wanted to do.

After listening to both albums back to back as a KatyCat, I just wonder how Katy thought 143 would be a "dance record" specifically.
On 143, the tempo is slow on a lot of songs and the beat/production are boring.
brat is just the opposite.
They came out the same year yet are so different in how well they achieved the desired goal

If she does she can become big like One Of The Boys to Prism again.

Katy at the Dolly Parton Celebration event in Nashville. She looks like she’s fresh from 2013 releasing Roar 🥲 our queen is aging backwards lol

CTTR is good, as is Bon Appetit and to a lesser extent Swish Swish, but so many of the deep cuts are excellent.
They really hold the album theme together of yearning for connection with someone (which I feel is the prevailing theme of the record as opposed to 'purposeful pop').
Thoughts?

Katy Perry’s 143 is a great album, but I really hope the rumors about A&R executive Chris Anokute being fired are true. His track record is disappointing, and his involvement feels like a recipe for sabotaging every great album Katy could give us. She deserves a team that brings out her full potential. 🩷

Many people online are citing a post from the "onemoretime.fm" podcast regarding an interview with Chris; the intro refers to him as Katy's "former" A&R, so it really looks like he either resigned or was fired. If that is indeed the case, I’m glad, because the mess surrounding *143* is simply unforgivable. Katy’s issues aren't really about the music—though, as has often been said, she could do much better than her latest album—but rather center on public relations. I get the feeling that Katy is finally trying to focus more on her career, doing things right, and trusting the right people.

I’m just so annoyed with Katy.
She lets her reputation, legacy, artistry go to the wolves all of the time.
I’m tired of having to defend her / defend being her fan when she doesn’t even defend herself or sincerely try to make good music anymore.
And she’s still an amazing performer, etc - she has it and clearly wants her fame. But damn.
She’s so out of touch. I fear my childhood musical hero is no longer really there.
The relentless string of massive PR blunders makes me think she just just be genuinely so stupid, and actually traumatized from the witness flop to this day. She’s a shell of what she once was artistically.
Also so many of her haters from her earlier years grew up and now work in the industry, making her an industry outcast.
The GP? People fucking HATE her. And I know it’s all BS. But being her fan feels awful. You bring it up and you’re hit with - nun killer, veteran killer, sexual abuser, rapist apologist. Like that’s INSANE. ALL of this is BS that could be explained away, but her and her team are incapable of it.
I really thought she was reclaiming her power working with Luke, was excited for her and good music, and that she would explain to the public in some elevated way like a RS interview what happened but no.
Pop music feels empty to me without her, but I’ve been waiting for about 10 years for it to turn around since witness and I don’t think I want to anymore.
I keep holding out hope but I don’t think I can anymore. But man, pop feels empty to me without her.
What a shame, what a WASTE Katy.
Just sharing. I know it’s silly. Clearly she meant a lot to me.
Anyone else relate?
——-
EDIT: this thought was kicked off by Kesha and Kim Petras hanging, and to clarify, that makes me happy. I don’t intend for this thread to be about either of them - so removing an original blurb about how that made me think about how frustrated I’ve been with Katy. Thanks all for the convo. 143

I believe it’s just "Bandaids" listed since it’s the A-side, but in my opinion, this ranking applies to "Watch It Burn"—the B-side—as well. In any case, it’s a great achievement for these two songs, which certainly deserved more attention (and promotion, especially the second one).

In addition to this, people have been talking about how Billboard just doesn't really matter anymore.
When Katy charted with TD, PRISM and even Witness, EVERYONE knew those songs (even my grandparents).
TLOAS? Not even close to the same. They charted that way because of Swifties and because it came after The Eras Tours.
This is NOT a Taylor shade btw; I like TLOAS, though I don't think it's even close to her best work.
I'm moreso advocating on Katy's behalf, in that if Taylor's deluxe album is counted towards top 10 hits *for one album,* then so should Katy's and all other artists.

I mean i understand de 143 rates, but Prism, Teenage dream or One of the boys, are really masterpiece, they don't deserve such hate

For me, this is the second song that truly made me feel sad on the very first listen. It feels like a prediction of Katy Perry's own life—how a woman who once shone brightly lets herself be dimmed by the wrong partner.
I don't know why, but "The One That Got Away" gives me a similar sad vibe, though its version is more pop compared to the melancholic feel of "Thinking Of You" and "Pearl".
