Does anyone know why the police were at Avalon? (1430 Highland Rd W)
I was just getting ready for bed and saw like 5 cop cars pull in plus 4 more unmarked (?) black vehicles with swat-esque police in them.
there was a rifle trained on one of the main floor windows. no shots were fired.
it was pretty scary but seems all is okay now? but i am so curious what happened? i hope everyone is safe.

A bit about Amber Louise Culley prior to the Monday, October 26th Municipal Elections - My Statement Prior to Election Day Tomorrow
A bit about Amber Louise Culley prior to the Monday, October 26th Municipal Elections - My Statement Prior to Election Day Tomorrow
Hello Kitchener Neighbours!
My name is Amber Louise Culley and I am running as a Ward 6 Candidate within the City of Kitchener.
I have a track record of genuine community service and care and have experience both with mental health practice and politics.
I know how to take part in decision-making, make financial decision-making, be a strong advocate in a room for the people, voice morals and ethics, present arguments with facts and statistics, not base arguments off of emotions and feelings, and I get to concrete, tangible solutions.
I have sat in rooms and held discussions and debates. I have been a public speaker. I have acted as a representative for organizations and people at the local, national and international levels in Panama most recently this August along with Ghana, Cuba, across the US, across Canada and Indigenous communities, England, Qatar, UAE, and more. I have a broad range of perspectives and knowledge that I can bring in. Coupling my experiences in 20+ countries and within Canada, I have academic and work experience across political science, criminology, psychotherapy, global studies, culture, spiritual care and theology. I act empirically and person-centred.
I have met with King Charles III, Queen Camilla, various Lieutenant Governor's, PM Mark Carney, PM Justin Trudeau, national and international organizations, university leadership and non-profit executives. I have held conversations and made arguments on topics including economics, ecology and climate, conservation and hunting and fishing, interfaith and secular relations, mental health, industry, trades, accessibility and disability, unemployment, youth employment and funding opportunities, entrepreneurism, education and peacemaking. I have developed the skills to advocate for you and represent your needs and concerns.
I have an interdisciplinary background myself and am qualifying to be a mental health practitioner with interests in also engaging within politics throughout my life. Additionally, I come from a background of people who were farmers for many generations and worked across various industries including skilled trades, manufacturing, law enforcement, sciences, healthcare, the service industry, governance and my grandfather Norman Culley managing the K-W Drive In in Bridgeport. I am able to support a broad range of perspectives and understand different needs; and have a track record of supporting various needs and being well engaged in communities.
Quite frankly, I am a bit blunt and will not sugarcoat my statements for anyone serving their own selfishness or padding their own pockets. I will call it out and back it up with facts and strong leadership. I know what hard work means and hardworking people deserve someone who will work hard for them rather than focusing in on photo ops and sitting collecting a cheque while your concerns, high living costs, egregiously high salary raises amongst City management, poor roads, flooding and so on go unaddressed.
Within my own ward, Ward 6, there are issues and concerns regarding transparency and genuine care for the people. There are immense conflicts of interests and an overrepresentation of conflicts of interests in my ward compared to other Ward Councillors. I will bring honest, transparent leadership based on common sense and care. You have a civic right to hold me accountable and not let me idle in this position. If the Ward 6 incumbent is re-elected, they will serve for 20 years in this role. No Canadian politician should be able to serve in one position for this period of time. There should be term limits. Residents have shared with me their concerns over ongoing traffic issues as well over the past two years that has gone unaddressed on roads such as Bleams Road, Block Line, Homer Watson, near school areas, and in the Country Hills area. I would make sure to listen to you, hold a consultation with the public and implement action steps towards addressing this as well as other pertinent issues brought to my attention such as community safety, inequity in funding and infrastructure across wards, affordability, and meaningful community engagement.
Please feel welcome to engage with my campaign website where I share about my main pillars, key issues and solutions, economic response, environment, and voting information.

As well, my LinkedIn portfolio can be located here:

Additionally, please do reach out. I have worked within the City's Community Services part-time amidst my graduate studies, psychotherapy and other work. I have worked across all of the community centres except for two of them. I know this community and impacts that provincial/territorial, national and international communities, organizations and governments can have on us. I genuinely enjoy getting to talk with folks and getting to know them. If there is anything on my website that I do not address for you, please do tell me. I want to know. Perhaps there is something I have missed out of human flaw or simply have not noticed - and I need to notice it. Make me aware of what matters to you, let’s make action plans together, or just reach out to say hello and get to know one another.

Halloween Trick or Treating
I will be bringing my little guy (3M) to Kitchener this year for trick-or-treating but I don’t know the areas well.
Looking for suggestions on some family-friendly residential areas we could check out (cool decorations, lots of houses on the same street etc.)
Any suggestions would be helpful :) 🎃🍭

Garment Street Condos - Where is the mail room??
Amazon driver left my delivery in this room. I ordered it to 108 Garment Street. I just moved in and was wondering if anyone could tell me where this room is and if the driver left it in the wrong building. There’s only the parcel room on the first floor to my knowledge. Thanks

Yesterday I asked for your help finding Little Free Libraries. Today I delivered. Literally.
Yesterday, I asked this community for suggestions on where to leave copies of my little book, Try Again.
This morning, nine sheep found nine new homes in Little Free Libraries around Kitchener–Waterloo!
Thank you to everyone who offered suggestions. I had a beautiful morning exploring the neighbourhoods, and even caught a few unexpected rainbows along the way.
The books are free for anyone who finds them. I hope they bring someone a little encouragement. 🐑❤️

Spells and Stardust: Gaukel Block Today From Noon Till 5:00
From what I can gather, Spells and Stardust, is a witches' festival. Vendors, artists, live music. Lovely day to stroll through, maybe pick up something for the spooky season.
On a personal note, I absolutely love the clever wordplay in naming a baked goods business Doughpamine.

Are there any particular neighborhoods that have cool Halloween displays.
Just as the title suggests, I'm looking for any neighborhoods that might be decked out with Halloween decorations.

Looking for Other WoW Players in Kitchener?
Hey Kitchener!
Some of you may have seen similar posts from me in other Ontario subreddits lately, so hopefully I’m not getting too annoying...
About a month ago I posted in the Barrie subreddit looking for a few local WoW players. That somehow turned into an Ontario-wide Discord that’s now pushing 800 members, with growing little communities in regions across the province, including Kitchener-Waterloo.
People seem to genuinely enjoy having a place to find WoW players who are actually nearby, so I’m just trying to keep spreading the word and help those local groups grow.
We’re open to Retail, Classic and WoW Forever players, whether you already have a guild, need one, or just want people to play with. We also have an optional Horde PvE guild for WoW Forever, but that’s just one part of the community and definitely not the focus. This is not a guild Discord; this is a community for WoW players in Ontario to find each other.
And yes, the graphics are AI-generated. I have asked if anyone in the community wants to make us some proper human-made banners/logos, but no takers yet. If you’re artistic and want to contribute something, I’d love to feature your work!

NEW MA MEETING
There's a new Marijuana Anonymous meeting starting in Kitchener-Waterloo! It's the first in person MA meeting in tri-cities.
It's a 12-step peer support group similar to AA (Alcoholics Anonymous) and NA (Narcotics Anonymous), but specifically for people struggling with cannabis use.
The first meeting is Monday, November 2, 2026 at 7pm. Meetings will continue every Monday from 7-8pm.
Location is Rockway Community Centre, 1405 King St. E., Kitchener, in the Program Room.
It's free, and it's open to anyone with a desire to stop using cannabis.
Come kick it with us!

Who is my elected government contact?
Hey Neighbours,
A hobby project I started in the spring launched in beta this week. It's called TraceCivic.ca and it's a tool for anyone in Canada to find all the elected representatives who serve them, regardless of whether they are municipal, provincial or federal. It's also a helper tool to explain what they do and how to contact them. It's a tool to see an rss feed of governmental news. It's a message board to discuss these topics.
It's non-commercial, self-funded, made and hosted in Canada by an Canadian. No ads, no trackers, no algorithm, no data retained.
This post is its introduction to the public - but really it's test to see if it falls over if real people use it. If it makes it through the night, I'll expand the release over the weekend.
Cheers
