Meta [WARNING] Suspicious accounts are messaging users to advertise a paid app

EDIT: several users has let us know that some of the accounts in question are Riley1692, amie-2002, leopard6004, and cebubu6865. These users have now been banned, but unfortunately can still send messages to subreddit members. I would strongly recommend that you don't engage with these users, as they are spamming the subreddit with advertisements and their actions have been very suspicious.\**

Hi y'all,

We've been notified by a user about multiple suspicious accounts messaging people who post in r/language_exchange, sending them messages similar to the one below:

Just curious, have you ever felt frustrated with language exchange? Too many DMs, chats fading out halfway, or spending a lot of time but only a few connections actually lasting? I’m curious what people think about this. [advertisement for a paid app]

This is to let anyone in this subreddit know that these accounts should not be trusted and neither should the apps that they are promoting. If you get a message like this, please report the message so that these accounts can hopefully be banned sitewide. You can learn how to do that here.

Please also send their usernames to us via modmail so that we can ban them from the subreddit. This unfortunately doesn't stop them from messaging subreddit members, but it will prevent any spam via posts or comments.

If you have any further questions or comments, please reply to this post or send us a modmail.

Meta (READ THIS FIRST) Welcome to r/language_exchange! [Meta/General Discussion Thread]

Welcome to ! This subreddit is aiming to help people find partners to practice languages with, offering the languages you already know in exchange to learn new ones. Make sure to read the guidelines before making your first post!

🍃 How do I make my language exchange post?

If you're looking for a language exchange partner, you can either make your own post or search through existing posts!

→ Making your own post:

  • Your thread title must follow the format of "Offering: language | Seeking: language". If your post doesn't follow this format, it won't be visible to other users.
  • Make sure to write a little bit about yourself, such as your interests, hobbies, or language-related goals. This is important in making sure you can find a good partner!
  • Please do not post your contact information publically. If you find a partner and would like to chat with them on a platform other than Reddit, please message them your contact information privately.

→ Searching through existing posts:

If you don't want to make your own post, you can search through existing posts to find someone who matches your languages! Just use the search bar at the top of the screen, or select a post flair to see all posts of the same category.

  • Please do not post your contact information publically. If you find a partner and would like to chat with them on a platform other than Reddit, please message them your contact information privately.

🍃 What kinds of posts and comments are allowed?

This subreddit's purpose is to serve as a platform for people to find language exchange partners. To keep the community true to its purpose, there are some rules:

  • Must be language exchange. Posts that don't concern language exchange will be removed. This includes posts asking general questions about language learning, advertisements, or meta discussion concerning the subreddit. These discussions are better suited to other places (language learning questions should be posted to broader subreddits; meta discussion should be posted in the comments of this thread)
  • Be courteous to other users. This subreddit isn't a place for arguments or debates. Any comments that break this rule will be removed.
  • No advertising. Posts and comments that advertise apps, services (such as classes and tutoring), or groups (such as Discord servers or Whatsapp groups) will be removed. These kinds of posts clog up the feed and don't follow the purpose of the subreddit.
  • No spam. Spam is the repeated posting of the same content. Any posts and comments that are spam will be removed.
  • No contact information. Contact information (such as Discord usernames, phone numbers, or Whatsapp contacts) should only be shared privately in messages, not publically in posts or comments.

🍃 Can I make a language exchange post for a language I've just started studying?

You can participate in this subreddit regardless of your skill level. However, it's highly recommended that you grasp the basics of a language before you look for a partner. This subreddit is for speakers of different languages to *assist each other* in learning. This subreddit is not a place to find a teacher that'll teach you everything for free.

Good luck on your language journey!

If you have any questions, feel free to leave a reply on this post or send us a Modmail.

-----

Welcome to the meta/general discussion thread!

This thread is for any questions, suggestions, or discussions concerning the subreddit itself. If you have any thoughts about  you want to share, post them here! I'll try to respond to as many comments as I can.

If you have any further questions, feel free to send us a Modmail.

Offering Mandarin Offering Mandarin | Seeking English

Hi! I’m a 25M from mainland China, looking for a serious, long-term language exchange partner.

I’ve studied English for years and can understand it pretty well, but I want to get back into the habit of speaking regularly. More importantly, I’d love to sound more natural and native-like, especially when it comes to pronunciation, phrasing, and everyday expressions.
In return, I can help you with Mandarin! I think my Chinese pronunciation is pretty good. I’ve had quite a bit of public speaking experience, and I was one of my school’s student broadcasters back in the day, so I’m happy to help you work on your pronunciation and make your Mandarin sound more natural, too.

I graduated from one of China’s top three universities and now work with multimodal AI image generation models. My background is in filmmaking and directing.
I’m into movies, PC gaming, indie rap, pop rock, and photography (I own a Sony FX3). I’ve also previously worked for a top-tier League of Legends esports team.

I prefer voice calls on any platforms , usually after 10 PM Beijing time (UTC+8). Weekends are flexible. All genders are welcome!
I’m hoping to find someone with shared interests who’s also serious about long-term learning. We can play games together, talk about movies and music, share stories about our daily lives, discuss random topics, or just have casual conversations.
Feel free to DM me or leave a comment if you’re interested!

Offering Multiple Languages Offering : Georgian / Seeking :English, Russian

Language exchange in Tbilisi: my Georgian/English for your English/Russian ☕🏔️

Hi! I’m 25, a Tbilisi local. I run a couple of businesses here, including a fried chicken spot. My English is around B2: I can talk freely, but I want to sound more natural, and I don’t get enough real practice.

What I offer: Georgian (native) or English, whichever you want to learn.
What I’m looking for: English conversation practice. ( My Russian is at a very low level, so I would be more than happy to exchange English or Georgian for Russian to )

A bit about me: I’m partly a chef, so food is my favorite topic. I also have a modified off-road 4x4 and love traveling in the mountains. playing sometimes video games for rest League of Legends.

No textbooks, no formal lessons, and no fixed schedule. I’m pretty spontaneous, so we’ll just text and meet up when it works:

  • 1-on-1: coffee, food, a walk around the city
  • Group meetups: happy to join an existing one, or help start one
  • Mountain trips: if 3–4 of us get together, we can head out of the city in my 4x4. That means good company, good food and English the whole way. Fun and useful at the same time!

First coffee is on me ☕

If you’re in Tbilisi and this sounds good, DM me or comment below! 🙂

Offering Multiple Languages Offering: Italian,English/Seeking: Chinese,Japanese

Hii everyone!!👋

I'm 19F (half Romanian/ half Italian)from Italy currently taking a gap year. I’m preparing to move abroad to study International Business with a focus on the Asian market, and I would love to start learning Mandarin and Japanese! I’m an absolute beginner in both languages, but I'm super excited and open to learning. In return, I can help you with native Italian (or English!).

Since I work, my schedule can be a bit busy, so while voice calls would be lovely, text-based chatting is definitely easier for me to maintain regularly.

To give you a quick idea of who I am and what I love:

📚📖 Reading: I'm a huge bookworm! Some of my favorites include Red Dragon and If Cats Disappeared from the World.

🎨🖌 Art: I love painting and drawing in my free time!

📺 📖Anime and Manga: Huge fan of Jujutsu Kaisen and Alice in Borderland.

🎵 ✨️Music: I listen to a bit of everything, but rock and punk have a special place in my heart!

🎮 🌟Gaming: I’m a big gamer! I love Outer Wilds, Resident Evil, Tomodachi Life, and even Roblox. I'd be totally down to play something together too!

If you're a native speaker of Mandarin or Japanese (or just someone with similar interests who wants to chat and become friends), feel free to send a DM! ✨

Offering Russian Offering:Russian(native)|Seeking English(american)

Hi everyone! 👋

I'm a 14-year-old native Russian speaker from Bashkortostan (Russia, UTC+5). I'm looking for an American English speaker to chat with — mostly just for fun, but we can help each other with languages too.

A little about me:

- I'm really into plants 🌱 (I like learning about them and growing them)

- I play video games

- I love humor — memes, jokes, funny stuff. I'd love to exchange memes and jokes with someone!

My English: I'm at a school level. I study well and get good grades, but I can only make basic sentences for now. So please be patient with me — I'm here to learn and practice.

What I offer: I can help you with Russian — basics, pronunciation, or just talking about Russian culture. I'm also happy to explain Russian memes and humor, which is honestly a whole different world 😄

What I'm looking for: A friendly American (native or fluent English speaker) who wants to chat casually. Ideally we could exchange jokes, memes and talk about everyday life, games and plants. I'd prefer American English, but British is fine too.

Format: Text and voice both work for me. We can start with messages here on Reddit, and if we get along, maybe move to Discord.

My schedule: I'm usually free around 7–8 AM my time (that's evening in the US) or around 8 PM my time (morning in the US).

If you're interested, send me a DM! 🙂
