The questions we get most about the speaking part are how long it is and what order things come in, so here's what our teachers and INLL confirm.

The level is A2 for speaking and B1 for listening.
The speaking part takes about 10 minutes: roughly 5 for the picture and 5 for the topic discussion. Usually the picture comes first, then the topic discussion, but the order can change. You choose one picture out of 3 and one topic out of 2

Some examiners start with a little small talk to put you at ease. It doesn't count towards your grade.

If you don't understand a question, examiners often rephrase it when they sense you haven't understood. Weak listening still hurts you here, though. If you misunderstand the examiner's questions in the topic discussion, your answers go off-target. That's one reason listening practice pays off in both parts.

A while back I posted a four-step structure for the picture description. Since then our teachers have gone through it, and part of it needs correcting, so here's the updated version.

The most common mistake they see is telling a story or grouping things together instead of describing the picture objectively and in detail. Some of what I suggested last time, like saying what the family did before the photo was taken, pushes you towards exactly that. I've also dropped the step about relating the picture to yourself until our teachers have agreed on it.

The order they teach:
Start with 2 or 3 sentences about the overall scene.
Then describe the main part, usually the people, one by one: what each person is wearing, with colours, patterns and adjectives. Not "the four people are wearing T-shirts".
Then move to the background.
Educated guesses come last ("I think it's evening, because the lights are on").

To practise, pick a photo, describe it fully out loud and time yourself. If you're done well under 5 minutes, the photo has too little in it or you need more vocabulary and adjectives.

Moien! This is Kawi.

Kawi is an app for kids aged 3 to 6 whose family doesn't speak Luxembourgish at home, so they recognise the first words of the classroom before starting précoce or Spillschoul. No reading needed: they listen, tap, recognise, and try to say it. The audio follows the official pronunciation of LOD.lu, and parents get translations in French, Portuguese, English and German, so they often end up learning alongside their child.

Before the public release, we'd love this community's eyes and ears:

- Does the vocabulary feel natural for a 4-year-old, or too "dictionary"?

-Anything that sounds off in the pronunciation or spelling?

- Which everyday school words would you add (snack time, coat, toilet, tidy up…)?

A friend and I have been working on OpenSprooch.lu:

We started building it while learning Luxembourgish ourselves. Mostly, whenever we find something that is missing or a bit painful in the learning process, we try to build a small tool for it.

Everything is free and open source.

At the moment we have:

• LODVault: a browser extension for LOD.lu that lets you save words, add notes, review them later as flashcards, and export them.
• Audio-Sync: a tool for listening practice. You can add Luxembourgish audio and follow the text while listening, repeat parts, and go back to things you didn't understand.
• LOD-MCP: more technical, but it basically allows AI tools that support MCP to use LOD directly for Luxembourgish words, examples, conjugations, etc.

We are not trying to build another Luxembourgish course or replace things like LOD, LLO, teachers, or the existing learning material.

The idea is more to build tools around them that make studying a bit easier and the ecosystem more functional.

We would really like to get feedback from people actually learning the language. If you use any of the tools and something doesn't work well, you think something is missing, or you simply have an idea that would be useful, there is a contact section on the website.

Also, if you teach Luxembourgish, please reach out as well. We are especially interested in understanding what problems teachers have, or what small tools could make teaching or preparing material easier.

We would rather build things based on real problems students and teachers have than just keep adding features we think might be useful.

I’ve completed A2.2 in Luxembourgish and took the Sproochentest in February 2026. I actually felt quite okay with the exam, but unfortunately I didn’t pass. I was quite disappointed because I had prepared a lot on my own.
I’m taking the exam again on December , so I have around 2½ months left to prepare. This time, I feel that I could really benefit from more speaking practice and feedback rather than just studying by myself.
I was thinking about joining a private tutor or a small Sproochentest preparation group, but I’m not sure what would be most useful.
For those who have taken the Sproochentest more than once, what helped you the most the second time? Did you use a private tutor, a small group, or practise with other learners?
Also, if anyone knows of a good Sproochentest group or speaking practice group where I could join, I’d really appreciate your recommendations.

Hello, so I did my sproochentest earlier today. I don’t see a 4th document under my exam inscriptions. Does that mean I’ve failed?
