I think I really hurt myself.

My relationship with this drug has gotten real dark this past couple of months. Over the summer I really started hitting it hard and then I started taking absurd amounts of edibles. 100mg bag of gummies, id eat the whole thing. At first it was great, I hadn't felt high like that in years. But as the months went by I started to feel not so great in new and exiting ways.

I just kept pushing it, eventually buying one of those 1000mg tinctures and taking the equivalent of 600mg. I don't know how to describe it other than it felt like my heart flipped inside out. It was one of the most unsettling feelings I had ever experienced. So I dialed back the edibles, sticking to the insane potency infused prerolls.

At the beginning of this month I started taking huge edible doses again. Pretty stupid thing to do but I was on a roll with the whole poor decisions thing. At first it was ok but gradually got weird again. There was an obvious tightness in my chest and a weird fluttering too. And it was like this almost all the time now, not just when I was high. I decided that I really, absolutely, 1000% needed to stop. Come Nov 1st thats it, but..... id like to all out one last time, who knows maybe it'll magically be good and fun this time! So last Friday I took 200mg of gummies, thats a lot of fucking gummies by the way, really gross eating all that crap.

That was one of the scariest nights of my life. it first started with my heart pounding so hard I could feel it in my ears. Next it felt like my heart was dangling from a string and had blood pooled in it. I could feel it sloshing around. This was very concerning and uncomfortable, so being the genius I am I decided to just play some video games and not think about it. There started being shooting pains throughout my chest and so I went to lay down. Pain continued to ripple through upper chest, my left side went numb, at one point it felt like my heart just exploded in my chest. You might be wondering why I didn't call 911, guess Id rather by dead than be embarrassed explaining all this to an EMT. But it all eventually calms down. I don't feel great but I no longer feel like i'm imminently dying. My heart still feels weird, like its constantly tingling. I threw away all my weed, crushing all the pre rolls so I couldn't dig them out of the trash like I knew I would.

Not sure really how to end this other than saying today is day 1. Hopefully I can dig myself out of this pit I got myself in.

7 years of heavy cannabis use. I'm finally choosing to take my life back.

Hey everyone,

This is my first time posting here, although I've been reading your stories and replying to some of you for quite a long time.

Today, I wanted to share my own story, hoping it might give a little hope to anyone who needs it.

I'm 26 years old, and I've been smoking weed almost continuously since I was 19. Over those 7 years, I've probably managed to stay sober for a total of about 6 months, through several attempts lasting 1 or 2 months before eventually relapsing.

I used to smoke very potent hash with extremely high THC levels (frozen, static, etc.), averaging around 2 grams a day.

I would smoke from the moment I woke up (literally, the first thing I'd do was relight the joint I'd left unfinished the night before, smoke it, and fall back asleep) until the moment I went to bed. Before working out, after working out, before eating, after eating... basically all day, every day.

A little over a week ago, I decided to quit again, and I really hope this time will be the one that sticks.

I don't use any other drugs and I barely drink alcohol, but I know how addiction works for me. All it takes is one joint, one edible, one moment of weakness, and I could easily fall back into my old habits.

I also wanted to share a few things that have helped me get through withdrawal.

Every time I quit, I experience night sweats, but the worst symptoms for me are definitely the intense nausea, diarrhea, and complete loss of appetite.

Thankfully, I've now managed to get back to a decent sleep schedule, and I'm actually eating much more than I did when I was smoking.

I'm a very active person, and exercise has been one of my biggest tools in getting through this.

During the first week, I went to the gym twice a day, roughly every 12 hours. I'd do a weightlifting session and about an hour of cardio. I genuinely feel like staying physically active has helped me cope with the withdrawal symptoms, which is why I wanted to share this with you.

I'm also trying to keep myself as busy as possible throughout the day: reading, working out, going out with friends who don't smoke, and finding things to do instead of sitting around thinking about weed.

I'm also relying a lot on the support of people close to me. Not my family, since they don't know about my cannabis use, but especially my friends and my girlfriend. Having people who believe in me makes a real difference.

I really hope I can keep going. I hope I'll come back here in a month and tell you all that I'm still sober and doing great.

Looking back at all these years, I genuinely feel like cannabis has robbed me of so much of my life.

It kept me trapped in a comfort zone where I slowly lost my ambition and stopped wanting more for myself. Instead of trying to grow, improve, or chase my goals, I was simply content with keeping everything exactly the way it was.

And honestly, that's probably one of the saddest things about my addiction. It didn't necessarily destroy my life overnight. It just made me comfortable with not moving forward.

But I'm 26, and I know it's not too late to change that.

I'm sharing this because I hope someone out there, maybe someone who's struggling through their first few days, will read this and find a little motivation to keep going.

I truly hope we all make it out of this and build the lives we deserve.

Love you all. Stay strong. We've got this. ❤️

10th month off—new mental clarity!

I stopped using weed on January 1st this year. I noticed some immediate changes in the weeks following that decision, of course, but it’s taken until now for me to truly feel like I’ve regained any sort of mental acuity, lol.

I went from being an irritable and angry addict (weed, food, scrolling, etc.) to someone that actually has willpower now. I feel like I can accomplish the things I’ve wanted to accomplish for years. It’s strange to realize what I was lacking for so long.

I was a heavy cart and edible user from 2021 to late 2025. I do experience some cravings still (during my luteal phase mostly) but I’m able to hold them off… can’t wait to hit a year clean from it!!!

I can’t stand being lucid… I can’t get through a single day.

I don’t wanna eat, but it’s worse without weed. Weeks into not smoking, well past the withdrawal window, I don’t wanna eat, (I’m hungry, starving, but I’d rather sit with the hunger than eat anything).

I hate being bored but I can’t do anything except sit here and wait for something to happen. But nothing ever happens.

Therapist asks why I don’t play video games but I try but there’s just no use. Drawing? Does nothing for me at the end of the day. Writing? Doesn’t change anything in my life.

Watching tv or movies? Yawn.

Volunteer work? Eh idk I just can’t. This may sound selfish of me (TW assault) I was groomed and trafficked for over a decade of my life and I will never be paid for ANY of that… the thought of volunteer work just feels like forcing myself to go more unpaid manual labor that I’m never gonna get paid for.

I don’t wanna eat, I don’t wanna be awake, I don’t wanna experience anything, I don’t wanna do anything. I just want nothing. I don’t want to be conscious. I don’t want to be aware.

I'm addicted to the escape

On Saturday I got hit with an explained bill and it almost triggered a relapse.

I wasn't missing the weed, I was missing the immediate escape that it offers.

All I had to do is roll a joint and after 15 minutes I'd have forgotten my responsibilities as an adult.

I'd have also ended up binge eating junk, another escape that I am addicted to.

Fortunately I have become very familiar with this loop.

I know exactly where that road would lead.

I had the strength to overcome it and I am happy I did.

Relapsed for a month after 8 months sober

I feel sad for knowing better but still not doing better, I had my reasons (or illusion of it).. but i don’t wanna wallow in it, it’s done. Never again. It will always end the same, I will not magically have a better relationship with it ever again.. Cons outweigh the Pros by an increasing margin with every passing day.

I know I’ll get back to living a great, wholesome and fulfilling life soon enough (most days, if I try hard enough) but idk how to explain.. reality is so dull and “perfect life” never sticks.. like the void never fully disappears, and even though most days it’s fine but those few ugly days really sink their teeth in.

And the fact that I fell back after all that I have been through.. idk feels cruel towards myself. Idk what I’m looking for, or if I will ever truly be okay but in the meantime going to spend my day picking up after myself

Weight gain

I hate that i gain weight when i quit even though i workout like a ton, and lots of cardio.

Probably my least favorite part. I’d like to manage it this time but my appetite goes through the damn roof.

Stopped smoking no issues so far, I just see no benefit so far.

I’ve hit my 30 days. I’ve been a daily weed smoker for 5 years but smoking it for 10 years. It wasn’t so hard for me, I really just experienced like stomach issues and like a little irritation. I actually still have everything, concentrate and a pen just in a drawer, and I haven't smoked it but I did look at it for a while and have to convince myself to go for a walk instead or something the first week.

I am like seeing no benefits to stopping. My memory is still shit, productivity has gotten worse, I also feel like I spend more time zoning out, skipping class like a mf, and recently I’ve gotten worse with emotional reactivity but that could be a combination from my period and withdrawals or something because I had other issues that I didn't before.

I would say I'm depressed because I think I’m going through a hard time but only when I actively think of it. My sister sort of describes me as someone who lacks understanding but like in the hardheaded way, like stuff just doesn't matter to me because somehow things will turn out how I want them to. But I am fine doing other things like socially and general maintenance (room is clean, cook & bake for myself and others, but my appearance is shit but I am cleanly). Like I still take care of my dad and niece occasionally throughout the week by myself and literally have no problems.

So, I feel I don’t want to smoke but I thought I would be better by now. I feel like I just lose track of time but I don't? I don't understand why I am not better. I am seeing a therapist.

Accepting the suckyness

Happy Monday. Day one no cart. It’s been hard. I say that and it’s literally 8 am. I woke up and just wanted to cry. Just knowing I don’t have my vice anymore. But I know it’s the best decision ultimately. I can either suffer now or suffer later. I’m just mad. Does anybody have tips to get through the first week. I’m scared I’m gonna walk out on my lunch break because I already hate my fuck ass job

quit/relapsed and feeling horrible

I (25m) smoked weed 2-4 times a day, daily for about 2.5 years. I quit cold turkey 34 days ago, which was very rough the first 2 weeks and got significantly better after- the only lingering withdrawal I still face is poor sleeping.

after an unexpected “breakup” of the sorts with a friend/situationship (complicated but further details unrelated and irrelevant) yesterday i hit a huge low. i did a great job of keeping busy yesterday and all day today to distract myself from that and keep moving on. tonight, my next door neighbor (we share a patio) offered me a hit of his pen. for some stupid reason, i decided to take one big hit. the hit itself felt fine and i definitely felt the high within a few minutes and it lasted a few hours. I used the time to talk to a close friend on FaceTime and watch a new animated series and it was a great time. as the high wore off, waves of guilt and frustration have come over me:

did i just lose all the progress i made??

am i going to suffer from withdrawals again??

did i just ruin all the mental clarity i gained??

i physically feel fine and my brain really wants to treat this as “ill be fine and im just overthinking it” but the rest of me is absolutely furious and guilty with myself that i would do this again.

I am writing this post so that if I ever get the urge again i can have some inspiration from others to stay sober. will i be okay?

how long did it take for your brain fog to clear?

currently 19 days sober and feel awful mentally. the first week i felt better, and now it’s dipped significantly. i’ve always had terrible brain fog and memory issues even before i began smoking (though it exacerbated it quite a bit). i know everyone’s different, but wondering if i can get a ballpark of how long it’ll take for me to get out of the woods, so to speak

Sup guys, 25 Male, new to the group.

I think I’ve finally come to terms with the marijuana use. Lately, the anxiety has been getting worse and I’ve just been wondering why. I’m not able to hold a conversation without having an airhead moment (also have ADHD to make matters worse). I’ve felt real guilt in the last week of picking up the pen; but I think this is the final crack at it.

Any of ya’ll with ADHD have negative effects with Marijuana with long term use? Been using for a year plus all day everyday. Any tips to crack this stupid brain dead habit on a daily basis?

Looking for advice – Depression after withdrawal

Hi everyone,

I'm 29 years old and have been consuming since I was 18. For a long time, I felt like it wasn't really holding me back in life. I was productive, went to work, bought a house with my wife, and spent a lot of my free time renovating it. I would often work on the house after work and always felt like I was managing everything pretty well.

In 2024, I quit for a year. After about three months without consuming, I started experiencing depressive symptoms that lasted for several months. Eventually, things got better, and I started feeling like myself again. Unfortunately, I started consuming again after that.

On June 15, 2026, I quit again because we had a child, and I want to be fully present for my family.

However, since August, I've been feeling depressed again. I get overwhelmed easily, have very little motivation, and all I can see when I'm at home are unfinished projects and things that need to be done. Sometimes I even regret buying our house. When I visit friends who live in a cozy three-bedroom apartment, I sometimes find myself envying them because they don't have an entire house to take care of.

I used to love working in the garden and was always starting new projects. Right now, I have absolutely no motivation for any of that. Everything feels like work and responsibility, and sometimes I wonder why we took all of this on in the first place.

The hardest part is that I know how fortunate I am. I have a wonderful wife, a healthy child, a house, and a secure job. I know I have a lot to be grateful for, but despite all that, my life often doesn't feel that way right now.

I can still experience happiness. I enjoy going out and spending time with my wife, our child, or friends. When I'm out doing something, I often feel pretty good. But as soon as I get back home, that feeling of being overwhelmed returns, and all I can see are the countless tasks that still need to be done.

I've already seen my doctor, but I'm still struggling to understand what's happening to me.

What gives me hope is that I went through something similar in 2024 and eventually got better after a few months. That's why I'm wondering whether what I'm experiencing now could also be related to withdrawal or whether something else might be going on.

At the same time, I'm afraid that I'll feel this way permanently. I have a lot of responsibilities, and I feel like I'm not living up to them the way I want to. Sometimes I feel like a failure because of that, even though I know rationally that it's probably not fair to judge myself that way.

I'm not trying to justify my past consumption. I genuinely want to understand what's happening to me and find a way to feel happier and more content with my life again.

Has anyone experienced something similar? I'd really appreciate hearing your experiences, any advice you might have, or simply some reassurance that things can get better.

Thanks to everyone who takes the time to read this and respond!

Replacing habits

• Upvotes

Hi guys! i am starting outpatient rehab soon, and i have a concern. I have optimisation ocd, which means i am in desperate need for control over my routine. Smoking 2 joints before going to sleep was part of my routine, now im wondering what i can do to still trigger this routine spot in my brain without smoking the weed. Does anyone have any tips?

there is so much fucking time for activities!!!!!

having been an addict for maybe a decade I have become an extremely boring person.

There was no need for hobbies when i could just kill the time getting high. When I was out at things I never talked much to people or perhaps even remembered the interactions.

Weekends where I don't work or get high seem to last forever!!!!! it's terrible but I guess also kinda nice.

It kinda fucking blows to have to build a life back up, but I guess it's better late than never

Smoking and binge eating

I feel like I can’t stop binge eating. I would smoke at night to “relax” and “help me sleep”. It’s what I tell myself. Anyway I believe I binge eat due to emotional issues and stress. I’m at the point where I live in a cycle of smoking to relax, waking up so mad at myself for binge eating, saying I’m done and then continuing on. I stress myself out more than if I didn’t smoke at all. I’m so tired of the mental gymnastics and my own bullshit. Weeds not helping me, it never has. I’m on day 1, I know I can do it. I have done it before and returned for familiarity and boredom.

Haven’t had cravings for 3 days, but tonight is fucking rough

I’ve actually been doing really well these past 3 days. Barely any cravings, and I’ve been pretty proud of myself.
But tonight is different. I’ve had problems with my right hip and lower back for years, and the past 2 days it’s been absolutely killing me. It’s this constant pulling/tight feeling that just won’t go away. Doesn’t matter if I’m sitting, standing or lying down. My body just refuses to relax.
And now all I can think about is smoking. Not even because I necessarily want to get high, I just want some fucking relief.
I’ve been fighting the craving for over 30 minutes now. Currently trying a heating pad, but part of me is already making excuses to smoke if it doesn’t help.
It’s so frustrating because I genuinely haven’t missed weed these past few days. But tonight I’m struggling hard.
Anyone else dealt with physical pain making your cravings come back out of nowhere? How did you get through it?

Every morning I think "I should give not smoking tonight a try," but every night I end up smoking. Any tips?

Title covers it mostly, but does anyone have any tips for the difference in motivation at the beginning of the day vs the end? I feel like I lose all willpower once it hits the time of day that I'll normally smoke (not a wake n' bake guy, but I use it to decompress at the end of the day and don't enjoy my evenings without it). This leads to staying up way too late, horrible sleep (usually around 5 hours), and all the things that come with it like brain fog and lack of motivation.

Any tricks you've found to power through those moments of craving? Or ways that you accessed the willpower/inspiration to give quitting a try? I went a month without it one time and was better at just about everything, but only because my job was on the line. Once things got better, I went back to smoking. I'm in school now and the novelty/stress has worn off so I'm back to my old bad habits. I want to be better. Feels like an endless cycle I can't escape and I know I'm wasting my potential.

I'm a new mom and I miss smoking weed

I havent smoked weed in about 20 months... not since the day before I found out I was pregnant.

I love being a mom, I love my son, I love nursing him..and I do not plan on weaning anytime soon. That is why I can't smoke weed.

Over these past 20 months, I have thought about smoking weed every day, probably multiple times a day, but these past few days it's just been hitting really hard. I really want to smoke weed. I won't do it, but I really really want to. This past week has been particularly extra stressful because of teething.

This post is just to vent and get it off my chest. That is all. Thank you lol.

Struggling

I haven’t smoked weed in 140 days and I am craving it constantly every day and I don’t know what to do
