ALOR SETAR: A cyclist was killed in a collision with a car along Jalan Kuala Muda near Langkawi today.
Langkawi police chief ACP Shariman Ashari said in the 8.30 am incident, 28-year-old Low Beng Seng, from Langkawi, died at the scene from severe head injuries.
“The Langkawi District Police Headquarters operations room received information about the accident around 8.45 am. Preliminary investigations revealed that the victim had been cycling with a group during a 68-kilometre event before the incident occurred.
“Upon reaching the accident site, the victim tried to avoid another cyclist, veered into the opposite lane, and collided with an oncoming car driven by a 36-year-old woman,“ he said in a statement today.
He said the victim’s body was sent to the Forensic Unit of Sultanah Maliha Hospital, Langkawi, for a post-mortem examination, adding that the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
Earlier, a 20-second video related to the accident had circulated on social media. - Bernama

People keep asking if pickleball is dying, so I checked. I pulled 3 years of Google searches for Malaysia. I also pulled every Google review of 277 pickleball courts around KL, and used AI to read them.
The short answer is that the hype cooled a lot, but the game didn't disappear. If you play, new courts and less hype should mean easier booking than last year. I can't see bookings, though, only searches and reviews.
What I found:
- Searches for "pickleball" fell 75% from the peak (165,000 a month) to March this year (40,500).
- Then the fall stopped. It's been 60,500 a month since May.
- January to August, searches are down 62% on 2025. That's still above 2024, and about 12 times 2023.
- The four sports I checked all got fewer searches this year. Badminton fell 26% and futsal 20%. Pickleball fell the most. Padel barely moved (3%), but it's small, about 6,150 searches a month.
- The word "pickleball" still gets more searches than "badminton" this year, 56,938 a month against 51,375.
- For a court to book, 2025 was a tie. This year "badminton court" is back on top, with 22,188 searches a month against 13,575 for "pickleball court".
- New courts keep appearing on Google, just fewer. From January to June, 38 got their first Google review this year, against 82 in 2025.
- From January to August, reviews across all 277 courts fell 12%. At the 90 courts open before 2025, they fell 37%. More courts, fewer reviews at each.
- Heat is the top complaint, at 61% of courts. I'd ask about air-con before I book.
How I did it: the search numbers are Google's monthly estimates for all of Malaysia. August 2026 is the newest month, so I compare January to August each year. The courts are places around the Klang Valley on Google Maps whose reviews show the public plays pickleball there. A first review isn't an opening date. Closed courts drop off Google. A review is a hint of a visit, not a head count.
Not taking a side, just counting. If you play, has your court got quieter this year?
