Good day everybody! I hope you’re all doing well. I highly encourage all the newcomers and veterans of r/medschoolph to engage in the posts below before posting your question to our subreddit.

Of course, take everything with a grain of salt, but I really do believe that this subreddit can be a really great resource for aspiring Filipino doctors to make more educated decisions about their future—especially if they don’t have access to this type of information otherwise.

The main FAQ post is still linked here of course! (credit to u/bananabread909 <3) Again, please read through it before making a post on this subreddit.

Career options

Good day docs! Ako po ay 31F 2025 graduate and nag 1 year moonlight po. Now nag apply as pre-res sa GS (first love po ang GS) at parang im slowly realizing na maybe hospital residency isnt for me. Baka dala na rin sa pagod at age etc, di ko pa rin sure sa sarili ko

Inisip ko po mag shift tracks and do a shorter residency (peds, IM, psych) but interest ko talaga is OR, di ko alam if mapipilit ko sarili ko to do something di buo ang loob ko.

Anyway, ano pa po kaya ang career options for GPs ? May stigma pa rin kasi pag GP na nag moonlight lang sa mga clinic, baka may ibang field of work that can be both fulfilling and not frowned upon

Thank you po for your suggestions!

šŸ—£ Discussion Xavier University (XU-JPRSM): Is the declared tuition fee really accurate for all 4 years?

Hi! Planning to apply sa XU and ask lang sana ako sa mga current students and graduates about sa actual expenses throughout med school.

Based sa AY 2025-2026 fee breakdown nila, around 99k-108k per sem yung school fees, which is significantly cheaper compared to other med schools in Mindanao and Cebu.

I come from a middle-class family, and kaya naman namin mag-med sa priv school as long as hindi lalagpas ng 150k per sem yung school fees, excluding my personal and living expenses.

Ask ko lang if may additional or hidden fees ba na wala sa official breakdown, and if realistic ba yung declared amount throughout all 4 years, especially during clinical rotations.

Would appreciate actual experiences from 1st year to 4th year or graduates kasi gusto ko sana malaman if financially sustainable talaga siya until graduation. Thank you po!

ā“Asking for Help do i fit in this profession? :(

hi docs! i'm a yl1 student and honestly, im really struggling when it comes to reviewing. i still cant find a more efficient way to study all the lessons, kapag kasi nagaaral ako talagang ang bagal kasi kinakalkal ko pa lahat:
• pictures to understand and visualize
• "bakit naging ganito?", "pano naging ganito",

just wanna ask for some study tips, advices and a little motivation :(

šŸ¤— Mental Health Been so stressed ever since I passed the PLE

Hello, passed the october ple and now parang mas stressed pa ako compared to when I was reviewing for the boards.

I'm a first gen doctor and i have no one to guide me on what to do. My parents want me to take up residency na agad but honestly, may trauma pa ko from staying at the hospital lang for almost 2 years (clerkship and internship). Gusto ko muna sana mag moonlight pero nappressure ako sa lahat ng nasa paligid ko. I feel like i'm a failure na kaagad kahit kakapasa ko palang just because yung iba ay nag-start na mag pre res. I even feel guilty kapag nagcecelebrate for passing the boards. I'm scared for my future pa kasi pakiramdam ko I won't be able to earn enough money to sustain yung lifestyle ng family ko (since i know in the near future ako na ang magiging breadwinner ng family).

I'm so tired of thinking at hindi ko na alam paano magiging masaya para sa sarili ko..

best curriculum for nontrad students

hi! i’m an aspiring med student from cebu, and i’m hoping to pursue med school soon. the thing is, i come from a nontraditional premed background since my undergrad degree is in business. šŸ˜…

i’d love to hear your recommendations on med schools in cebu with a good curriculum, especially for students who didn’t come from a science related program. i’m a little worried about catching up with the science subjects, so i’m hoping to find a school that can help nontrad students build a strong foundation.

if you’re currently in med school or know someone who came from a nontraditional pre-med programs, i’d really appreciate any advice or insights! which schools would you recommend, and why? tysmmm šŸ„¹šŸ’—

PGI-SHIP @ SLU-SHMC

Hello! I'm currently a clinical clerk from Manila. Ask ko lang sana if Saint Louie University - Sacred Heart Medical Center accepts POSTGRADUATE INTERNS who are not originally from Baguio?

Gusto ko rin po sana ito malaman:

  1. Anong schedule ng PGI sa major and minor rotations?

  2. May stipend po ba? Or other incentives?

  3. Ano pong uniform ang need? Color ng scrubs? White coat?

  4. Marami bang dorms nearby?

  5. Mababait po ba ang consultants and resis?

  6. Nagtuturo po ba ang consultants and resis?

  7. May time pa po ba mag-aral for boards if sa SLU-SHMC?

Thank you so much po sa sasagot <3

Abroad as RMT or pursue MED?

My real dream has always been to become a doctor, which is why I chose BS Medical Technology as my pre-med course. Thankfully, by God’s grace, I am now an RMT! 🄹 However, I had to take the board exam twice because I felt so lost during my first attempt. I didn’t know what to prioritize: the NMAT or the board exam.
Right now, I’m unemployed because I’m preparing for the NMAT. My goal is to get a 90+ PR, but when I took our mock exam, I realized just how difficult the NMAT is. It made me wonder if aiming for a 90+ PR is too ambitious. I know it was only a mock exam, and the review classes haven’t even started yet, so I still have a lot of room to improve.
But lately, another dream has been growing in my heart: the dream of living abroad someday (hahaha). 🄹 I imagine myself working hard, earning a good income, and being able to give my family more than they could ever ask for. I also have a tita and my mom living abroad. Would having family members there help me find work or move abroad?

I NEED SO MUCH HELP. 😭 I honestly feel so torn between pursuing medicine and exploring the possibility of working abroad. Both dreams mean so much to me, and I don’t know which path to take.
You might end up being the person who helps me decide my future! HAHAHAHA, LOL. 😭
Thank you so much in advance! ā¤ļø

šŸ“ Clerkship/Internship Help a clerk out! I’m not sure where to apply for PGIship. The opportunities are too many. I am planning to apply in Bacolod Adventist Med

Hello! I am currently a medical clerk. I am planning to apply in BAMC but still torn to leave my current hospital. Here, I get to train and think like I’m a resident. We are allowed to see and manage patients. And this is the kind of training I’m looking for kasi I want matrain yung critical thinking ko to prepare myself for DTTB kasi I’m a scholar. I am from Mindanao and have never been to Bacolod. I’m not sure about living expenses, living situation, cost of living, transpo, etc.

I also heard that BAMC does not treat interns like clerks. They train them like pre resis so that’s why I’m starting to consider BAMC. Can someone please help me out and tell me about living in Bacolod and the internship situation in BAMC? 🄹

Oath taking outfit: Looking for plus-size gown recommendations for my upcoming oath-taking! šŸ¤

Hi, everyone! 🄹 I’m looking for recommendations for shops or designers that offer plus-size gowns for my upcoming oath-taking.

I previously got my gown from a shop, but unfortunately, they haven’t been responding to my inquiries anymore. Since I’m a plus-size girly, finding a gown that fits well can be quite challenging. I’m also from the province, so my options for physical shops are pretty limited.

I’m hoping to find a reliable shop that accepts online transactions, where I can send my measurements and gown peg/design for a customized or made-to-measure gown. I’m also open to online gown rentals, as long as they accommodate plus-size clients.

If you’ve personally tried a shop or know a designer you can recommend, I’d really appreciate it if you could share their Facebook page, Instagram account, or contact details.

Thank you so much in advance! I’m really hoping to find the perfect gown for this special milestone. šŸ„¹šŸ¤

ā“Asking for Help Help me narrow down the med schools i will apply to

Hello med people!

Currently I am screening na yung possible medical schools na I will be applying to. I've narrowed down the list to 5 schools and honestly medo nalulula ako since i will be paying for the app fees (my parents will be funding my tuition naman šŸ™šŸ™). here's my list (from most to least preferred with notes). hindi ko tanggap kasi na lagpas 10k ang gagastos ko for having the privilege to apply to med schools, like that is more than half my salary rn after taxes.

  1. UPCM (only issue is that upm is kinda your toxic lover, also the reason why i am retaking nmat) - 1500
  2. ASMPH (high tuition at ayaw ng parents ko due to its distance/expense that incurs, pero this is my most preferred after cm since OSI and i like the campus+culture) - 3100
  3. PLM (since nontrad ako i need to take extra courses, may additional exam pa??) - 3500 wtf na lang
  4. Mapua (most affordable option, pero 3rd batch ako) - 2000 (but it was waived last year?)
  5. San Beda (high attrition rate. parents are pushing this school since they can hatid-sundo me) - 1600

i need to remove one lang talaga pero di ako sure kung ano diyan. siraan niyo nga yung mga schools diyan baka matauhan ako na mabawasan yung list ko

stats: upm grad (1.28 GWA MCL from CAS), 90 PR (will retake sa jan)

Can someone here give me any insight regarding these two schools? Like tuition, mode of learning, school system, teaching style, or any comment you want to leave.
