How long does it take for my balance to unlock?
Your balance is unlocked after 10 confirmations (which means 10 mined blocks). A block is mined approximately every two minutes on the Monero network, so that would be around 20 minutes.
How can I prove that I sent a payment?
The fastest and most direct way is by using the ExploreMonero blockchain explorer. You will need to recover the transaction key from your wallet (complete guide for GUI / CLI).
How do I buy Monero (XMR) with Bitcoin (BTC)?
There are dozens of exchanges that trade Monero against Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies. Check out the list on CoinMarketCap and choose the option that suits you best.
How do I buy Monero (XMR) with fiat?
- Kraken (USD and EUR): old-school, decent exchange. They might require your documents for verification and approval of your account.
How can I quickly exchange my Monero (XMR) for Bitcoin (BTC)?
There are multiple ways to exchange your Monero for Bitcoin, but first of all, I'd like to remind you that if you really want to do your part for Monero, one of the simplest ways is to get in touch with your merchant/service provider and request for it to accept Monero directly as payment. Ask the service provider to visit the official website and our communication channels if he or she needs help with system integration.
That being said, KYCNot.me maintains an up-to-date list of exchanges. These services are only recommendations (which change over time) and are operated by entities outside the control of the Monero Project. DYOR and be diligent.
How do I mine Monero? And other mining questions.
The correct place to ask questions and discuss the Monero mining scene is in the dedicated subreddit r/MoneroMining. That being said, you can find a list of pools and available mining software in the GetMonero.org website.
2. Wallet: CLI & GUI
Why I can't see my balance? Where is my XMR?
Before any action there are two things to check:
- Are you using the latest available version of the wallet? A new version is released roughly every 6 months, so make sure you're using the current release (compare the release on GetMonero.org with your wallet's version on
Settings, underDebug info). - Is your wallet fully synchronized? If it isn't, wait the sync to complete.
Because Monero is different from Bitcoin, wallet synchronization is not instant. The software needs to synchronize the blockchain and use your private keys to identify your transactions. Check in the lower left corner (GUI) if the wallet is synchronized.
You can't send transactions and your balance might be wrong or unavailable if the wallet is not synced with the network. So please wait.
If this is not a sufficient answer for your case and you're looking for more information, please see this answer on StackExchange.
How do I upgrade my wallet to the newest version?
This question is beautifully answered on StackExchange.
Why does it take so long to sync the wallet [for the first time]?
You have decided to use Monero's wallet and run a local node. Congratulations! You have chosen the safest and most secure option for your privacy, but unfortunately this has an initial cost. The first reason for the slowness is that you will need to download the entire blockchain, which is considerably heavy and constantly growing (up-to-date sizes of a full/pruned node). There are technologies being implemented in Monero to slow this growth, however it is inevitable to make this initial download to run a full node. Consider syncing to a device that has an SSD instead of an HDD, as this greatly impacts the speed of synchronization.
Now that the blockchain is on your computer, the next time you run the wallet you only need to download new blocks, which should take seconds or minutes (depending on how often you use the wallet).
I don't want to download the blockchain, how can I skip that?
The way to skip downloading the blockchain is connecting your wallet to a public remote node. You can follow this guide on how to set it up. Check out Feather Wallet's list of remote nodes, ditatompel's list, or monero.fail.
Be advised that when using a public remote node you lose some of your privacy. A public remote node is able to identify your IP and opens up a range for certain attacks that further diminish your privacy. A remote node can't see your balance and it can't spend your XMR.
How do I restore my wallet from the mnemonic seed or from the keys?
To restore your wallet with the 25 word mnemonic seed, please see this guide.
To restore your wallet with your keys, please see this guide.
3. Wallet: Ledger
How do I generate a Ledger Monero Wallet with the GUI or CLI?
This question is beautifully answered on StackExchange. Check this page for the GUI instructions, and this page for the CLI instructions.
4. Wallet: Trezor
How do I generate a Trezor Monero Wallet with the GUI or CLI?
This question is beautifully answered on StackExchange. Check this page for the GUI instructions, and this page for the CLI instructions.
5. Nodes
How can my local node become a public remote node?
If you want to support other Monero users by making your node public, you can follow the instructions on MoneroWorld, under the section "How To Include Your Node On Moneroworld".
How can I connect my node via Tor?
This question is beautifully answered on StackExchange.

Is a PoW algorithm that actually balances CPU/GPU/ASIC even possible, or is balance a fantasy?
Been turning this over for a while and I can't decide if it's a real design goal or just wishful thinking. Almost every PoW algorithm quietly picks a winner. RandomX basically says CPUs win and everything else runs at a loss. SHA-256 says ASICs win, don't even bother with anything else. The GPU-leaning ones like Ethash or KawPow sit somewhere in the middle but still clearly tilt one way.
What I keep wondering is whether you could aim for actual balance instead a hash where a CPU, a GPU and an ASIC all land roughly in the same ballpark on performance-per-dollar, so no single class of hardware just takes over the whole network. Not "resist ASICs" or "resist GPUs," but genuinely spread the hashrate across all three.
The problem is every path I think through seems to collapse back into favoring someone. Make it memory-hard enough to blunt ASICs and you've basically handed it to whatever has the best memory subsystem, which tends to be CPUs with big caches so now you're back to CPU-only without meaning to. Something like ProgPoW tried to hug GPU capabilities so ASICs couldn't pull ahead, but that just locks you to GPUs and ages badly the moment GPU architectures move on.
And maybe that's the real issue: balance might not even be a stable state. Whoever gets the best perf-per-watt on that specific algo wins over time, and the market quietly converges on one class no matter what you intended at launch.
So I'm genuinely asking has anyone ever seen an algorithm, real or theoretical, that actually keeps CPU, GPU and ASIC competitive with each other at the same time? Or is a balanced hardware field just something PoW can't give you, and you're always secretly choosing a winner the second you pick the algo? Would love to hear if someone has a counterexample, because I keep landing on "impossible" and I'm not sure I trust that.

Current state of monero.com?
Coming back as an old user. Had some XMR left in the app and I wanted to move it.
Is there any reason why everything is so slow now? It seemed much faster 3 years ago.

Impact of mainstream chain privacy on Monero
In this board, most of us believe in unconditional privacy by design.
Mainstream chains nowadays work towards optional privacy, with a few voices accentuating default transaction privacy.
The former will satisfy regulators and lead to greater adoption. The latter is a larger feat.
Monero is likely to experience influx of new users and believers. A defensive mindset tells me it will also face a lot more hostility.

Skepticism Sunday – October 25, 2026
Please stay on topic: this post is only for comments discussing the uncertainties, shortcomings, and concerns some may have about Monero.
NOT the positive aspects of it.
Discussion can relate to the technology itself or economics.
Talk about community and price is not wanted, but some discussion about it maybe allowed if it relates well.
Be as respectful and nice as possible. This discussion has potential to be more emotionally charged as it may bring up issues that are extremely upsetting: many people are not only financially but emotionally invested in the ideas and tools around Monero.
It's better to keep it calm then to stir the pot, so don't talk down to people, insult them for spelling/grammar, personal insults, etc. This should only be calm rational discussion about the technical and economic aspects of Monero.
"Do unto others 20% better than you'd expect them to do unto you to correct subjective error." - Linus Pauling
How it works:
Post your concerns about Monero in reply to this main post.
If you can address these concerns, or add further details to them - reply to that comment. This will make it easily sortable
Upvote the comments that are the most valid criticisms of it that have few or no real honest solutions/answers to them.
The comment that mentions the biggest problems of Monero should have the most karma.
As a community, as developers, we need to know about them. Even if they make us feel bad, we got to upvote them.

i love monero but
Guys, I love Monero and also I have Monero in my wallets right now. The problem with that is: why does Zcash have ETFs and Monero doesn't? Okay I know the reason: Monero actually doesn't offer traceable transactions, and Zcash obeys more political things I guess.
The problem with that is I just want to know why people use Zcash or why people use Monero. With Zcash they just didn't find any source even if it's untraceable. Do they give the logs and some kind of information to the feds or government? I don't know but I'm sure with Monero no one is able to actually follow your transaction, not even the feds or government, no one. Monero is superior because of that.
Do you guys think we will suppress all other coins with ETFs? I'm saying that because ETFs are important because at the end of the day we all know: the big rich billionaires or companies sometimes need this kind of service. Because Zcash is in an ETF they are able to get investment in it. Maybe they loan money, who knows? With Monero Monero is not in the ETFs category right now. What do you think about it guys?

My new VPN service accepts direct Monero payments with 10% discounts. No-KYC, no email. No 3rd party payment providers. getastatic.com
Getastatic.com is a service I started about 3 months ago, primarily to offer inexpensive method for people to get dedicated static IP addresses in a VPN. It's good for hosting services behind cgnat, or whenever its useful to have an IP that will never change.
Only a few % of users use Monero, but I wanted the service to be available for Monero users and require no KYC (not even email). You can signup and pay in Monero using an Access Key. Activation is instant using 0 conf (no delay due to waiting for confirmations).
All Monero payments also receive a 10% discount vs the normal price.
I could use some reviews and feedback.
P.S. been trying to get listed on kycnot.me for two months, but it seems like no ones home there.
Checkout my new Monero & Tor project!
Know that all of this is very new and largely untested (the code has been through AI audit-and-fix rounds at many stages, but the full independent security review of the built system is still ahead) It's a server that makes it incredibly easy to launch your own tor website. You walk through a step by step installation process like you might when setting up a typical operating system and you get a fully encrypted disk that is a server operating in Podman. The website itself is completely isolated — it has no Internet access at all and doesn't have access to the computer's real IP address, so even if the website gets hacked it can't leak your IP address, as the site itself does not know. https://maniocserver.org/ This allows you to launch a few prebuilt options including a blog, forum and a monero only marketplace. https://polyculturemarkets.org/ The monero only marketplace will have a few payment style options: direct to seller but with the option to show the payment to the marketplace for disputes/ratings IF it goes south: otherwise the entire transaction is hidden from the marketplace, and 2 of 2 / 2 of 3 multisig is being explored for later — not built or decided yet. Hopes and plans to never have the marketplace be the custodian but it is a fully open source project, so I'm sure some people will build that. The goal was to make this incredibly simple and secure. I think anyone who can boot off a USB stick can likely, once this project is mature, launch and host their own tor sites and monero marketplace. I'll be adding other monero focused stuff as well just not quite sure what. If this type of thing interests you, please reach out to me, please try it out and check out the code.

Looking to take monero payments for my business, how inconvenient would this be for my customers?
I have an online business and would like to start accepting payments in Monero, how would I go about doing this and how would I make it as easy as possible for them to do this?
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Question from a programmer
Hello, everyone.
I tried to get a hold of some XMR today (in Europe), and it took me a long, long time to find a way (ended up with Kraken).
I love Monero and find this a bit of a shame that it was to difficult to obtain. And I wonder (I wa-wa-wa-wa-wonder):
1) What is a generally easy and safe KYC-free way to obtain XMR today? From what I read, there are no very reliable bridges at the moment. Is this correct?
2) What is missing in the Monero ecosystem? What is a solution in dire need of solving?
Maybe I can help with something. Thanks.
Blind payments now live on Obscurify.ai
Hey folks, wanted to share a recent update to our XMR-friendly AI service that I think you'll like.
We have implemented blind payments for all users. What this means is that not even we can see who paid which account. All payments are made using signed vouchers which ensure that a payment did happen, but hides which monero deposit address was used for an account. You can read more at our blog: https://obscurify.ai/blog/blind_payments
Also! We implemented a Mullvad style account number system. No more email and password. Just a single 16 digit number for all new accounts.
Let me know what else you guys would like to see!

Friday Monero Market Thread - October 23, 2026
This is the weekly Monero market thread. This thread will be posted every Friday and is meant to help accelerate the adoption of Monero. Due to r/moneromarket having only a fraction of the subscribers of r/Monero, we have decided to create this thread to encourage more individuals to use Monero for product exchanges. Until the market matures, we recommend that the Monero community post their products both in this thread and on r/moneromarket (to ensure growth of that subreddit).
Selling items for Monero will boost your (and Monero's) reputation as a legitimate form of exchange of goods. This is necessary for the growth of Monero, our community, and privacy as a whole.
Instructions
When you post your product or job listing here, please make sure to: - Give a description of the item. - Link to a photo of the item (if it's physical). - Provide logistics information (such as, location and/or shipping availability). - Optionally, provide an additional (private) form of communication outside of Reddit (e.g. Bitmessage, u/protonmail, u/tutanota, GPG key). - Post the price in XMR terms.
Spamming will not be tolerated. Please make sure that listings are legitimate and do not break rule 2."
Finally, credits to cdotsubo for starting the concept!

Is the quantum/AI threat model fundamentally different for monero?
[Shower thought]
People are very worried about reverse-computing private keys from public keys on chains like BTC.
Example attack - find a wallet with 1000 BTC, and point your powerful quantum computer or crazy powerful AI model at it and reverse the public key derivation (obtain the private key)
With monero, this is different for a few reasons:
- you can't be sure how much a UTXO is worth. You may use tons of resources brute-forcing a key that has $5 or $100M behind it
- once you've brute forced a key, you then can check if it has been spent, because of key images. So you may find a UTXO that's already become spent
I guess with powerful compute resources, one could also reverse the key-image generation, right? So without stealing any coins, someone could damage the privacy of Monero in a major way, potentially de-anonymizing all transactions.
Thoughts?
Complete Relaunch of XMRHub - Moved from .org to .io and rebuilt the entire platform from scratch
I'm excited to finally announce that XMR Hub has officially relaunched at xmrhub.io!
For those who remember xmrhub.org, its not just a domain change or "fresh coat of paint". We've completely overhauled the website, redesigned the experience, and introduced a ton of new features.
What originally started as a place to discover Monero-related services has evolved into something much bigger.
Our goal is simple: build the ultimate hub for everything Monero. A place where newcomers can discover XMR, experienced users can find useful services, and the community can actually interact, participate, and grow.
So, what's new?
We've spent a lot of time rebuilding virtually every corner of the platform. Here's some of what you'll find:
Completely redesigned website: A brand-new interface, improved navigation, mobile optimizations, and a much cleaner experience throughout.
Monero marketplace: Browse, buy, and sell items using XMR.
XMR swaps: Swap between Monero and other cryptocurrencies directly through the platform.
Expanded Monero directory: Discover 240+ services accepting XMR, from VPNs and hosting to gift cards and other useful products.
Community profiles: Customize your profile, earn badges, gain XP, level up, and climb the leaderboards.
XP and rewards: Earn experience through community participation, reviews, activities, and other interactions. We want to make contributing to the ecosystem fun.
Community forum and messaging: Connect with other Monero bros, share ideas, and participate in discussions.
Interactive games: Chess, poker, blackjack, coin flips, and other games, including free XP-based activities. XMR-staked games are restricted to eligible adults in permitted regions.
Live Monero charts and market sentiment: Track XMR's price, explore charts, and vote on whether you're bullish or bearish.
Educational resources: Guides, tools, and content designed to make Monero more approachable for people who are just getting started.
And that's only part of it.
Why the move from .org to .io?
We wanted this relaunch to represent a new chapter for XMR Hub.
The original .org helped us establish the project, but as our vision expanded, we wanted a fresh foundation and identity that better represented what we're building.
xmrhub.io is now our official home moving forward.
This is more than a website redesign. We're trying to build a genuine ecosystem around Monero and make it easier for people to discover, use, and participate in it.
What's next?
We're nowhere near finished.
We'll continue refining the experience, introducing features, expanding the directory, improving community rewards, and listening to feedback.
One thing I'm particularly excited about is building ways for community members to earn recognition and rewards for contributing, even if they're not spending money on the platform.
I want XMR Hub to be somewhere people genuinely enjoy coming back to, not just another website they visit once and forget about.
We'd love your feedback!
This has taken a tremendous amount of work, and I'm genuinely excited to share it with the Monero community.
If you used the original XMR Hub, I'd especially love to hear what you think of the transformation.
And if you're discovering us for the first time, welcome!
Check it out: https://xmrhub.io
Let me know what you like, what you dislike, what feels broken, and what you'd love to see added next. Constructive criticism is genuinely appreciated.
We're building this for the Monero community, and I want the community to have a voice in where it goes.
Monero matters. And we're just getting started. 🧡
