Advice 23F Currently a Buddhist, but feeling drawn to Jesus. Im looking for people who can help me learn about Christianity

Hi everyone. I’m currently Buddhist but I’ve been feeling a strong and difficult to explain connection to Jesus for yearsss. I’ve been thinking about Him, God, faith and Christianity more and more and I feel like I genuinely want to understand where these feelings are coming from.I don’t know a lot about Christianity yet. I’m seriously considering becoming Christian someday, but I don’t want to make such an important decision without learning and understanding first.

What I’m really looking for right now is a Christian community or someone really friendly who would be willing to guide me. I’d love to attend church, learn about the Bible, ask questions without being judged and get to know Christians who are willing to share their faith and experiences with me.

If you’re Christian and you understand what it was like when you were first learning about your faith, I would really appreciate hearing from you. If you’re part of a welcoming church or Christian community that is open to people who are still exploring Christianity, I’d also be grateful if you could point me in the right direction.

I’m genuinely trying to learn, and I would really appreciate any help❤️

Advice Im Confused About What to Do With My Future

Post image
220 Upvotes

After hearing those words from my dad, I started questioning myself what have I actually done for my family so far? I kept overthinking my future, stuck between decisions I’m not even sure about.(Even though I'm just a man, what he said was enough to bring me to tears fr)

I’m only 17, and I’m just starting to enter the IT field. I’m planning to study an IT major through an HND program, but I’m honestly not sure if I’m making the right decision.

My family isn’t in a very comfortable financial situation. They’re doing their best just to give me the opportunity to continue my education. We used to be more financially stable, but things have become a little difficult for us recently.

There are two seniors, both girls(my cousins), who are already studying in this field, and they told me that I shouldn’t choose IT. When I asked them why, they said that it’s really difficult to get a job and earn a good income in this field. Hearing that honestly made me question my decision.

As for Business, I’m not really interested in it. From my personal experience and observation, I feel like many people who study Business come from families that are already financially comfortable, or they study it mainly to get a certificate before joining or taking over their family business. Of course, that’s just my personal opinion, and I’m sorry if I’m wrong about that.

I’m also not continuing high school because of my circumstances, not because I simply chose to give up on education. That’s why I’m really worried about what I should do from this point forward.

My father is getting older, and none of us knows what the future will bring. I want to be able to give my parents something in return for everything they have sacrificed for me.

There are only three people in my family: my father, my mother, and me. That’s why I feel like I have to become independent and eventually be able to support them. I want to give them more than what they were able to give me, even though I know they have already given me everything they could and I want to make them proud. I also want them to be able to rest someday, knowing that I can take care of myself and that they don’t have to worry about my future anymore.

So honestly, I don’t know what the best path is for me right now. Should I continue with IT even though people are telling me that it’s difficult to find a job? Or should I choose something else? I’m willing to work hard, but because my family’s financial situation isn’t great, I really can’t afford to make a completely wrong decision.

I just want to build a stable future, become someone my parents can be proud of, and eventually be able to take care of the two people who have spent their whole lives taking care of me

Edit: (Y’all, thanks so much for all the advice! I really appreciate everyone who gave me their thoughts and helped me figure things out.)

Advice Dear Chin brothers and sisters of Myanmar.

Being born of Chin background, living in USA, in a state separated from the Chin diaspora, I don't feel confident to tell others what I am. When someone asks what am I, I am conflicted to say Burmese, because I know that Burmese is not truly of my Chin background. Some claim that Burmese is a umbrella term, to unify all people of Myanmar, regardless of ethnic background. However, calling myself Burmese seems like a colonization's strategy to assimilate my Chin heritage and undermine it. I am 100% born Chin, and I know that our people founded the Union of Burma, but I am afraid that our future chin children will start mixing Burmese and Chin like oil and water. I am afraid that my traditions, culture, and my dear ancestor's ways of living will one day be suppressed by Burmanization. When I express my experience of believing that Burmese is just another word for Bamars (Burmans) , many people of Myanmar community claim that I am wrong, and Burmese is just a National term, which I am not 100% convinced it is. To back that up, Aung San Suu Kyi also states that there are many different ethnics in Burma, and she belongs to the Burmese ethnicity, which clarifies that Burmese = Bamar. I am afraid for the miseducation for the younger/next generation of Chin diaspora, and I hope they will be educated that our true lineage is not of Burmese lineage, but the Zo (Chin-Kuki-Mizo) family.

Please let me know if any other Chin, or other ethnic minorities have a similar feeling/experience.
Thank you.

Advice Spreading awareness to be careful about Korean rapists in Myanmar.

I still cannot fully recover from this trauma and it's giving me so much stress and anxiety every night and I cant fall asleep, I wanted to warn everyone here so nobody else has to go through what I went through.

One year ago, I tried applying to go study at a Korean university and a part time job through some agents. My family wasn't supportive of my decision and I still regret not listening to them. I went with one of the Korean "agent" because he said he can help me enroll to Hanyang University for my architecture course and he has good relationships with the dean and he will put a good word in for me. I was skeptical at first but he said he doesn't need payment because he gets commission from the university, so I thought he was being honest and didnt want to waste my chances. I just started my mock exams and I was naive, because that time I was really into Kpop and anything that would help me go to Korea after my high school, I was really excited.

He told me he is in Myanmar for a few days to find suitable candidates for the next batch for about only 10 students and asked me to come to his office at Crystal Tower (I'm not putting any blame on the location or the building owner, it was my fault for not being careful) and bring all my documents. When I got there, it wasn't an office but it looks like a private condo made to look like a office. I still regret that I didn't listen to my guts and left because I had a really bad feeling, however I still wanted to study abroad so I gave it a chance. We spoke in Korean because I can speak near fluent Korean from self study. Halfway through the interview like 10 minutes, I lost color in my vision and it become so blurry, my heartbeat was going up so high and my paranoia got so bad and I think I tried to leave. I still thought I felt dizzy because I was nervous from the interview, I cannot remember the rest of what happened, but I was raped. I think he put something inside the glass of juice he offered to me that I drank.

When a kind passerby woke me up, I was inside large golf bag near Myanmar Plaza, I had rash all over my body and he took all my clothes and documents but he left my NRC, my money, my phone and passport. A kind old man and his wife offered to take me to police station and took me to their home to offer their clothes before I went home but I told them please don't inform the police because I'm so scared what'll happen and my mind still wasn't clear yet. I didn't want to make it to news on Facebook or national TV. I didn't want anyone to know. I lied to my parents that I was ok but I really thought about kms. When I tried contacting him again, he never replied. But that son of bi*ch fking sent me an email yesterday after a whole year, when I'm starting to heal mentally and feeling happy again, that he took videos of me while I was unconscious and said he uploaded to a Korean 18+ website. I know I can't do anything about it now but I want to warn everyone so that nobody has to go through what I did.

On these days,I couldn’t control my emotions anymore, so I ended up writing all of this down in my journal. Could you guys read it and tell me what you think I should do? I feel like I’ve completely lost my way, and the pressure is getting heavier. I don’t even know myself anymore.

Are there other people who have felt the same way?

What should I do next?I came from nothing, so I don’t really know where to begin.(I'm 18 years old btw)

In Myanmar, if someone has completed at least LCCI Level 4, would they usually have a university degree as well when applying for jobs at companies?

If they do, can it be a degree from a foreign university rather than a Myanmar university? The reason I’m asking is that I’m currently a GED student, and I only want to attend a university abroad. I don’t want to studying Myanmar high school or attend Myanmar university because I really hate the rote-learning system where you just memorize everything and repeat it in exams.

Advice How to deal with a perverted stalker?

To start off saying this, I live in a calm neighborhood in North Dagon ( minus thievery and robbery that happens alot now ofc). But it's either I'm just a pervert magnet or that other girls that have this problem rn't speaking out.

I saw this man for the first time around 2-3 years ago. When i walked around 7pm to buy some snacks, where he passed me on a bicycle and stopped in front of me, double looked at me, and continued to ride his bicycle.

(Im only 80% sure this is the same guy coz i have hard time remembering faces)

Another time was after a few weeks after that experience, i was at the market around 7am, he saw me and again, looked at me twice before moving on.

This time was around 3-4 months ago. I was at the capital around 9pm,( it's close by) and was buying smth i needed to cook. I saw a guy come in, and immediately, im getting bad vibes from him. But i thought it was just paranoia and continued checking ingredient lists. He walked past me and whispered smth. I wasn't sure he was saying smth to me, even tho it felt like it. But i ignored and continued shopping, only for him to pass by me again, and said " ပေါင်ကြီးတွေကကိုက်ချင်စရာကြီး" And immediately i know hes speaking to me. And i panicked coz i saw him turning around again.

So i walked to a nearby worker there and said " Miss, can u walk me out? "

And the worker didn't get it and was like " Oh im not off the clock yet".

So i told her " No, i just need u to walk me off to the entrance ".

"No but imma be off in a few mins-" And while we were talking, the dude went to a different aisle as if to hide. So i took the chance and run out of capital.

This time, was around 8 to 8:15. I was buying a snack (again, late i know but its in the same housing so i thought it was fine 😞). I was walking back home and this dude was on his bicycle at the opposite direction and whispered to me " ပေါင်ကြီးတွေကလှတယ်ကွာ" Again, i had bad hearing so i thought im just paranoid that he said smth like that. And i continued to walk. This time, he followed behind me and whispered to me again, " ေ-ာက်-ုတ်လေးက ကျပ်နေမှာပဲ" Immediately, i knew what he said now so i was so dumbfounded i looked at his back for a sec. And he turned around. Once he did, i was 100% sure thats what he said, so i stood and stared at him. He saw that and turned to go inside a different street and kept looking back, and i kept my eye on him. I grabbed a brick from the corner store( coz theres alot of renovations) and when he got to the end of the street, he made a U turn towards me, and saw i had a brick in hand, and that i was blatantly daring him to come back. So he made another U turn and left. I kept staring at the end of the street and walked back home, making sure he wasn't following and locked the door. All these interactions happened close to my house, so im guessing he's scoping where i live.

These r all from the same guy. I have had two other incidents where another dude( again, on a bicycle) saw me walking in school uniform, stopped and got off the bicycle , showed me his phone which had porn on full blast ( yes, i could hear it before, but i assumed it was a normal movie as no person in right mind would have been playing porn in broad day light, with no earphone, but clearly i was mistaken). And asked if he could fck me. When i shook my head,( i was young so i was easily scared) he continued to followed me until i ran zig zags thro alley ways into my housing.

And another where a guy followed me around to ask my number over and over again, chased me down even tho i screamed and yelled at him , and then grabbed my chest before running off becoz some other ppl were coming in to the street where we were at.

I know these 3 dudes r different ppl just becoz they have different structures. One was rather thin, had glasses on and darker skinned, and 2 were abit fuller and taller but with different tans.

I, myself is on chubby side, so im abit fuller and i can guess thats why im getting these malicious attention? Or maybe the other girls r just embarrassed of it and not speaking out, but either way someone needs to get rid of those scums.

So my question is, if i happen to bash his head over, let's say the next time it happens, can i get in trouble for it? If so, how much? Coz i know there's no proof of him sexually hara- $$ing me now coz i don't have a voice recorder on me 24/7, and coz no one else except for me heard it anyways, i won't be able to take his ass to government office. I don't know who he is anyways and i don't carry my phone around, just to go buy snacks and risk getting it snatched. But if i happen to retaliate, i would get in trouble right? I did check self defense tools too, but there's nth thats convenient enough to carry around and frankly, always needing someone else to walk to a snack store that's in 100m distance from my house becoz of some perverts just doesn't sit well with me. It might be better with i just run, but that's just giving the scums power some sort of wicked satisfaction, and i can fight back becoz im abit more heavy handed than avg girls, but if it happens to smaller, younger girls, i doubt those dudes will be scared off with a mere brick. So i would rather force them to stop harassing ppl like this. Any advice is appreciated.

Advice Conscription Situation

Guys I’m planning to go back to Yangon for a few days. I’m currently studying abroad as an international student but I’m kinda worried about the current conscription situation.
How bad is it right now? Is there a chance I could get conscripted at the airport when I arrive? Has anyone recently gone back to Myanmar and knows what the situation is like?

Advice What is the reality of getting rich?

So I'm 19 yo Male looking for ways to get rich. I still don't know which career path to take tbh. Recently one of my friends who is a senior network engineer said he would put me on as a junior NE at the company he is working at and said the starting salary would be 4 lakhs. I mean for me at this point 4 lakhs is a lot since I only got 1 lakhs allowance per month. But part of me still thinks it's too low. Considering people on the internet are getting like 10 30 50 100 lakhs per month doing god knows what. Call me delusional but I don't wanna live my life stuck as an average 9 to 5 worker. But at the same time it's the best opportunity I would have at my current situation. I'd say I have this fear of being ordinary but at the same I have no skills to become extraordinary.

Advice Running away from very controlling parents

Hi i'm 20F and I live under very strict conservative controlling parents which means they take away my electronic devices every night, don't let me go out, don't let me have friends, don't let me talk to strangers online and go through my phone and stuffs. I'm currently trying to study abroad but they haven't said anything explicitly that they'll provide me or when do I go.

I do try to keep everything okay but everyday I feel suffocated and all I want is freedom. Ever since I was a kid, I have been struggling with social anxiety because of them not letting me even talk to strangers. I want to be independent; I want to live in a small apartment alone, have many friends, fall in love, focus on my dreams.

I had suicidal thoughts all the time but I can't give up. I want to breathe once without worrying about being scolded. I know it's not realistic to run away and survive alone in this country. What should I do? I have done IGCSE and GED and also japanese N3 level.

Advice Learning Burmese unironically

Post image
105 Upvotes

I would like to learn Burmese. There is no profit incentive, I live nowhere near Myanmar, I just think it would be cool.

But because it is a relatively "random" language for a quirked up white boy to learn, I struggle to find accessible textbooks or similar such resources that would help me pick up the very basics.

Do you know of any? How would one go about this? Has anyone successfully pulled this off without moving to Myanmar?

Pic unrelated.

Advice I made a Myanmar programming language (MeRUSTmar)

Post image
175 Upvotes

I’m trying to start a tech and programming YouTube channel. I intentionally decided to cover a really difficult topic for my first video a Myanmar programming language I built called MeRUSTmar. I figured if I could handle this, easier topics down the road would be a breeze.

But I’ve hit a massive roadblock, and the stakes are incredibly high for me.

I made a strict deal with my family, and my deadline is June 30. If my first video gets at least 1k views and shows genuine interest, they’ll give me more time to pursue programming. If it fails, I have to give up programming entirely, learn Japanese, and move away to get a job in Japan.

I was confident at first, but after rewriting my script over and over again, I realized a major problem: it’s just way too technical. Instead of a fun, high-level overview of the language, I ended up explaining exactly how an interpreter works under the hood, showing source code, and tracing complex parts.

Because of that, I’m incredibly stressed and can't seem to make progress. The video is only about 30% finished right now. Because it's my first time making a video, I keep over-refining the script and I'm struggling to manage the project efficiently. I’m terrified the YouTube algorithm is just going to bury it because it's not geared toward a general audience.

I’m posting here to see if the Myanmar community actually has an interest in this kind of deep-dive, under-the-hood tech content. Is my goal even possible?

I’m going to drop my unfinished video in the comments. If you find this topic interesting, please leave some feedback. Honest support and comments here could literally help me convince my parents to let me keep programming.

Edit : Thanks to the amazing interest here, I convinced my family to give me one extra week to finish the video!

Advice I don't understand my Myanmar Boyfriend

I have boyfriend from Myammar. I fall in love the moment I saw him, really. But I didn't told him, I try to ignore the feels. I know it is very different and difficult between us. After few months he ask my phone number, and we started to chat.

A lot of things happened in between. He once confessed his love to me, but I rejected him. After a few months, we got together. He quit smoking and drinking for me because I didn't like. But there are things I don't understand about him.

I used to think that Burmese people were very traditional because I had the impression that they often went to temples. But my boyfriend said he wanted to see my boobs 3 days after we got together. Then within a month he wanted to have sex with me. I'm very traditional, so I told him we could do it on our wedding night, which I thought was very meaningful. I was actually scared because I didn't know him much.Sometimes I would help him with my hands, or in other ways.

But one day, he turned on his phone and started playing porn when he asked me to help him. I'm not sure if it's just how men are because I couldn't give him pleasure. But I was a little unhappy. We also have a lot of communication problems and he doesn't understand how I feel. I'm not sure if different cultures have different ways of getting along and communicating. I don't want him to feel like he did anything wrong, but I just want us to be happy together. Little things like he likes me taking care of him, but I'm not his mom. He would say you should do what a woman should do.Is it a cultural difference?

I love him very much, but I'm not sure if we can be together for a long time, and I don't want us to quarrel.Should I break up with him?

Advice Tinder experience in Myanmar?!

Me a 25F. All the guys be asking "Which township are you from?" and I've been answering this question in this week for more than 15th time and I'm fking tired. Look? What's the game? You won't date a girl if she's a bit far away? Why? Aren't we all living in Yangon afterall? I don't know, man. These guys are so disrespectful and so low effort. Can't even make a proper date and making me do all the works and I be like a volunteer Event Planner. Ughhhh! I was desperate to look for love, may be I should quit the app and try to be mindful and content with being single. I don't know. It's so frustrating.

Advice How to deal with the hypocrisy of the older generation?

I had alluded in a previous post about the fact that my family is kind of racist. But having just endured an extended family trip together, I was appalled by the sheer weight of hypocrisy that some of the older generations can carry. Their words and actions are miles apart. One uncle in particular was outspoken and I nearly yelled at him at some point. Here are some examples:

1.      He thinks the Rohingya are illegal immigrants and should be deported for that reason. He himself is now living in Thailand because he overstayed his visa in the USA and got deported.

2.      He hates the LGBTQ are destroying traditional conservative Buddhist and Burmese values. He is a divorcee because he kept cheating on his wife.

3.      He thinks that MAH and the military are terrible people. He was cheering the military on hard during the Rohingya genocide.

4.      He thinks that immigrants need to adopt local languages and customs. Screams about latinos in the USA not learning English. After years in Thailand, he does not speak a lick of Thai. He refuses to learn it.

5.      He thinks the poor are lazy and leeching off the hardworking people in society. He is not employed and uses public healthcare services in Thailand. He is trying to tap into the social security fund pension.

6.      He is against the idea of independence for the ethnic groups and says they are all part of a united myanmar and should have equal standing. He also violently objects to his niece dating a kayin guy.

7.      He says you cannot trust things in western media. He forwards the most random rumours and fake news in the family FB group.

8.      He hates China and blames them for pillaging myanmar for rare earths. Drives a BYD EV and loves his made in china Apple phone.

I am aware that not every boomer is like this champion here. But I have met my fair share now. And it is really hard for me to adhere to the instinctive norm of respecting elders when the older people are spewing shit like this.

Do you have older relatives like this? How do I show them that they are applying double standards? Or is it a lost cause?

Advice Any atheist/antithesis people from muslim families in myanmar?

Anti-theist** (spelling error in the title)
I was born in a strict religious muslim family, and when i was about 13 i just decided that none of it makes any sense to me and completely lost my faith. I only identified myself as an atheist to my friends, and colleagues because obviously my family would disown me if they knew lol. As i grew older, and got more exposed to different things in life and met new people, i realized how deprived of life i was under the name of religion simply because i was a girl. From that point on i’ve leaned more towards anti-theism. Anyways, most of my friends are agnostics/atheists as well but they’re usually from non religious backgrounds to begin with so they don’t really have the same experience as i do. I’ve never come across an ex-muslim turned atheist, esp a woman so i’m wondering if there’s anyone who’s going through the same thing as me. Unfortunately, I’m still stuck and suffering in that household constantly having to pretend i’m still a muslim so I wonder how y’all cope and avoid arguments on a daily basis?

Advice 18F from rural Myanmar. Passed my GED, looking for IT/Business major advice to earn well and support my family!

Hi everyone,

I’m an 18-year-old girl from a small village in Myanmar. I just completed my GED and am currently preparing for further university application requirements.

I want to be practical: my main goal is to choose a major in IT or Business that will allow me to earn a high income and support my family back home. However, I want to find a path that fits my personality.

Here is a quick snapshot of who I am:

  • Academic & Competitive: I am someone who puts 100% effort into studying. I thrive on competition and love active classrooms where I can ask questions and engage.
  • Creative Roots: As a child, I was deeply into drawing, painting, and creative DIY projects. I focus strictly on academics now, but I still have that creative drive.
  • Socializing: I used to avoid socializing, but I now realize it’s an essential skill. I want to improve at it, though I am still working on it.

Someone recommended that I look into UI/UX Design, Digital Marketing / Brand Strategy, or Business/Data Analytics because these fields combine creative/analytical thinking with high-paying tech or business tracks.

Given that I am starting with a GED and living in rural Myanmar, which specific majors or career paths would you recommend for me? What skills should I focus on right now?

Thank you for your advice!

Advice Best juicy burgers and pizza with a proper sourdough

Recently, I’ve been seriously missing and craving some proper, authentic Western fast food, and honestly, I know it’s pretty damn hard to find in Yangon these days. With the government cutting off a lot of foreign supplies, even basic things like Heinz ketchup and other proper imported condiments are difficult to get, which makes putting together a genuinely good burger way harder than it should be.
So, please recommend me a restaurant that actually fucking slaps.
Parami Pizza is decent, but their dough is nowhere near my standard for pizza. And when it comes to burgers, I’ve tried pretty much every viral Taktik spot in Yangon including all the viral dog shit spots and honestly, most of them have been absolute dogshit for me.
I’m planning to go abroad again soon, but unfortunately I’m going to be stuck here for a year because of some business stuff, so I need to find somewhere that can actually satisfy the craving.
That said, I am extremely grateful for the absolute SLAPPPPP that is mohinga, Shan kout swel, banger tofu nway, and napikyaw especially with those moulded/dried chillies you can basically only get in Myanmar.
Western food might be struggling, but Myanmar food is still undefeated.

Edited: please help if the last option is to flyover to Bangkok or Singapore let me know I’ll just flyover there on weekends.

Advice How much money should I offer to my girlfriend's parents???

I have asked my girlfriend but she starts saying no sense such that sometimes they offer jewelry, apartment, car, etc. I am a foreigner so I have no properties and no jewelry so all I can offer is kyat. What is the standard range or at least what range (min, max) of money is considered appropriate? (for marriage)
