Thanks for the past 5 days NFLD!
Came down over an extended weekend to attend my sister wedding. BEAUTIFUL Province. Sights are 10/10.
ALSO. You guys are wild for doing a Marathon on the Eastern Trail! What a way to wake up Saturday morning to look out the AirBnB window and you guys are running in that wicked weather. Kudos!

Sound Familiar?
Was watching Good Mythical Morning and the story at 6:50 sounded WAY too familiar. Double checked and, yup, they were talking about the guy from here who boiled bones.
I went to high school with him LOL
Here’s a link to the video they uploaded today; mentioned it at 6:50

Mary Browns - decline?
Just had some MB for the first time in a bit and was a little shocked how much it’s declined. What happened? My chicken fingers were so tiny. And the taters were mushy, like they were overcooked.
Are they cutting back with everything now, using new suppliers or did I get a one-off bad meal?
Cause today was disappointing 😞

If you had to pick which population centre in Labrador to be the capital city of Labrador, what town are you picking?
In my opinion, Labrador city quite literally has the name city in it, but if I were to think about the unofficial capital of the Labrador peninsula, I would think of goose Bay

Is NL the poorest province in Canada?
I keep hearing people say that NL is the poorest province in Canada. What is this claim based on and does it have any basis in reality?
I'd think NB and PEI are poorer and maybe NS and Manitoba.

Jobs: Is experience away valued by employers?
Dear By's,
I moved to NL a year ago and I am really struggling to make it work. I have been able to get some part-time and seasonal work. I am still struggling to find something full-time. Most of my work experience has been from Ontario, but I am finding I am not getting call backs from office roles. I am trying to understand the market better:
Do local recruiters/employers tend to prefer candidates with local NL diplomas/education (like CNA) or local work history over out-of-province experience? I have heard some folks say they prefer it and some don't.
Is out-of-province experience sometimes viewed as a "flight risk" assumption (i.e., assuming the candidate won't stay long-term)?
For those in hiring positions or who made a similar move, what's the best way to frame mainland experience on a resume so it lands better with local hiring teams?
I really appreciate any and all insights By's.

Any groups that play unmatched?
I enjoy board games and currently my favorite is unmatched. I have a few sets so far and plan to get a few more soon. I typically just play with my brother but we'd be interested to find others to play. I know there's others because since I've started playing I missed out on at least two sets that were at Midgard and sold before I was able to go back for them lol.

Looking for an at-home THC drug test kit tonight
I have an important urine test next week and cannot find 50 ng/ml tests anywhere. If anyone knows where definitely has them in stock in St.Johns’s let me know as Shoppers and Lawtons don’t carry them and Walmart is all out and apparently Dollarama doesn’t carry them now either. Or if anyone has a few extra I’m willing to pay for delivery!! TIA :)

Recommendations for naturopathic services in Newfoundland?
I have health insurance coverage for up to $800 a year for naturopathy, and I'm wondering how I might make good use of it.
I understand naturopathy is a pretty broad umbrella, so I'm curious what kinds of services are actually available and what people have found helpful. Does anyone have recommendations for practitioners in Newfoundland, particularly around the Avalon Peninsula? Also open to virtual options.
I'm mainly interested in using the coverage to improve my general health and wellness rather than treating any specific condition. I'd love to hear about people's experiences and whether there are any services worth looking into!

Anyone in Newfoundland have experience getting a hair transplant?
I'm interested in getting a hair transplant and have been looking into my options. I was in contact with a local place called The Hair Clinic, but I think I've been ghosted, as they've basically stopped responding to my messages.
Has anyone here had a hair transplant, either locally or elsewhere? Where did you go, and would you recommend them? I'd also be interested in hearing about costs, results, and anything you wish you'd known beforehand.
Any advice or recommendations would be appreciated!

Income options for injured restaurant workers
I'm a little lost and panicking so decided to come here for advice. So I've been working full time in a restaurant for years as a server, and as most may know, restaurant workers don't get benefits, paid sick days, vacation pay or PTO of any kind. Hasn't really been an issue before until now, as I was in a car accident recently and am in too much pain to work. I've taken 4 days off but have to return Monday as I can't afford to lose any more wages and tips, but I'm in so much pain that I'm afraid of what will happen. The doctor I saw at the hospital wanted me off for at least 2 weeks but I would end up homeless if I took it. Because more than half my income comes from tips, I imagine EI would pay very little. Does anyone know of anything other than EI that could help me in this situation or am I just screwed ? Thanks guys

Genuine question for Newfoundlanders
What issues, if any, do you have with immigration in Newfoundland and Labrador? I’m interested in hearing honest perspectives, whether it’s housing, healthcare, jobs, affordability, cultural differences, or concerns about how immigration is managed.
I think it’s possible to acknowledge the challenges people are facing while also recognizing that immigrants are people trying to build a better life. I’m not here to argue, just to understand different perspectives respectfully.

Can someone help me understand required job breaks in NL?
Sorry if this is a stupid question. I used work at two different sobeys stores and have always been confused by how their breaks work.
They give two, 20 minute breaks for an 8 hour shift. Where you receive the second one after working at least 6 hours 45 minutes or 7 hours.
When i first started my parents and people i knew all questioned if this was legal. The handbook i received literally says you also get an unpaid break, however its like they jusy dont follow that. I was literally mocked on my first training shift for asking if our break was 45/60 mins or whatever, as what it says in the book i was given.
Worked there for a bit and eventually moved to another sobeys and they do the same thing. Two 20s. Nobody else questions it.
Ive tried looking into this and im hearing theres a bunch of exceptions that can be inplace for different rules to be allowed. Can someone help me clarify these rules and if this is normal. Thanks.

The "Fairies" and folklore traditions
My grandmother used to get me to put bread and change in my back pockets, turn the front ones inside out as well as my socks if I was going through a wooded area. "Don't go anywhere near those jesus woods" in the night time.
I remember once I was at her sister's house running around the backyard with my cousin. Keep in mind this is rural NL, so lots of woods land around. She said dont go near the woods because "the fairies". My cousin made fun of me for listening and anyway, I ended up near the woods and felt suddenly fearful and disoriented. My cousins said to me "whats going on you were just standing there staring at me for like 2 minutes" I had no recollection of this. Went and found my nan and told her I felt ill and she said "you were down in the f'in woods werent you? I know you were." Took me by the arm, put me in the car and put me to bed when we got home. She said she cuddled me all night so they "couldnt get me" and I was shivering the whole night. I woke up feeling fine and super well rested.
Another time I was out with my friend in her backyard after dark, and heard my grandmother's whistling coming from the woods. Which stopped me in my tracks. Then i heard her voice sounding scared and calling my name. My friend didnt hear it, I thought she was joking and it was all a prank and maybe she convinced my nan to go up there for a joke. But no, i went closer to the woods and got super tired, my friend had to physically pull me away from the woods.
I never played outside after dark again 😭
Looking for other newfoundlanders with similar paranormal stories or superstitions their family strictly followed.

Wine Recommendation
Hi all, I'd like to get a red between $20-$35 for my brother in law who's a wine enthusiast. Does anyone know of any interesting new arrivals in that price range that a non drinker can pick up in the greater St John's area?
