ποΈ News Someone just died in front of me at the 14th St L Station.
A man in all black, looked to be 30-40 yr old was hit by a train.
I was on my phone when I heard people screaming. I looked up and he had jumped onto the tracks and was walking into the tunnel. We were all yelling and trying to help him back up but he just ignored us and kept walking into the tunnel.
The L train came and he disappeared with it and for a second I thought they had gotten him off the tracks because it was so quiet. There werenβt any screams or blood. Then I realized the people around me were crying and filming and others were searching under the train with their phone flashlights looking for his body.
People on the L train were trapped inside with the doors closed and were aggravated, and I walked from train to train with a note on my phone that explained what happened.
Itβs one of those things you know happen in the city, but you never think will happen right in front of you.
I donβt know if the guy was on drugs or just extremely emotionally unwell. We need more accessible help for people struggling with mental illness.
No one should have to see what we saw.
