MOD Note: This subreddit is for applications, not for your culture wars.

There have been a few articles circulating recently in the subreddit which were allowed as we wanted people to speak freely on this subreddit. However, I noticed that the subreddit was infiltrated by agitators who were creating a hostile environment, and therefore have been banned after much consideration.

If you have any concerns with any of the posts here please message me. We want this subreddit to be only for applications to Oxford and Cambridge + student life.

Kind reminder that current and former Oxbridge students may not promote nor DM members here offering paid services. These will lead to a permanent ban from the subreddit.

Thanks for your attention,

Cambridge HSPS written work

Heyy, my ps was mostly politics and social anthropology. I'm planning to base them both on history and corrected by my history teacher. I'm an intl student and idh essays so I've to write them now.

It's fine that I get both corrected by the same teacher right. I've my exon teacher, but she doesn't help at all, and besides, I like the topics relating to history more.

Should I still apply?

Hi! I’ve been eyeing two graduate programs related to my field, one in Bristol and one in Oxford.

I already got a rejection from Bristol (didn’t ask for reco letters) 😅 should I still continue my application for Oxford?

For context, I don’t have first class honors, but in my country a first class honors is a rare breed. However, I have more than four years of relevant experience in the field.

Any realistic advice?

Written work q!

I'm applying to Pembroke (Cambridge) for history and the written work limit is 2000. I'm submitting an extract from my epq which is under the word limit without references but over including the references (formatted as footnotes). Will this be ok?

what TARA score do I need for Oxford EP?

i did my TARA 2 weeks ago and i have been averaging around 20/22 for CT and maybe 17/22 for PS, in the exam CT went well but for PS i guessed 4 questions and probably made a few mistakes as well, my essay was meh, im guessing ill get roughly a 19-20/22 for CT and 14-16/22 for PS, is that enough for Oxford Experimental Psychology?

Cambridge Written work submission

Hi there! I have a question about the written work submission for the undergraduate HSPS programme. Since my essays are typed, would it be acceptable to upload them along with the cover sheet as a PDF, or do they need to be printed and scanned? Alternatively, does the written work need to be handwritten?

Looking for an Oxbridge Maths interview practice partner

Hi, I’m an international student applying for Oxford Mathematics this year, and I’m looking for someone to practise maths interviews with over the next few weeks. Ideally, we could take turns being the interviewer and candidate, using Oxford/Cambridge-style problems, STEP-style questions, or modified interview questions. I’m mainly hoping to practise thinking aloud, explaining ideas clearly, responding to hints, and discussing different approaches rather than just solving questions silently. I’d be especially happy to practise with another Oxford or Cambridge Maths applicant, but anyone seriously preparing for a maths-heavy Oxbridge interview would be welcome. I’m based in GMT+8, but I can be flexible with timing. We could use Teams, Discord or Zoom. If anyone is interested, feel free to DM me.

Career in medicine/ medical history - 2:2 and pass at MSc. Am I doomed?

My absolute dream is PG study at Oxbridge but I am worried about my previous study.

I am currently studying for my medical degree in London and am getting high marks. As the MBBS isn't an honours degree, it's graded slightly differently, but so far I'm getting distinction % equivalent grades, distinctions where applicable, and scoring in the top 10% of my class.

When I graduate, my goal is to apply for either an MSc or DPhil at Oxbridge (I'm looking at a few different routes). I have great references and a decent amount of research experience/ publications.

However! Over 20 years ago I studied law at university (not Oxbridge) and did not take it seriously. I ended up with a 2:2 and honestly my transcript is absolutely horrible. An Oxbridge admissions officer would surely think it was some kind of a sick joke! I also studied an MSc a few years later, and got a pass (I was taking it more seriously but was working full-time alongside it, which was a mistake - I got 2 distinction grades and 4 pass grades, which meant a pass overall).

When I graduate from med school, my previous UG award will be 23 years ago and my MSc 19 years ago. I'm so gutted they need to be included in my application, but alas I know it has to be.

Be honest with me - should I give up on this dream completely? And what are my chances realistically if I crack on with the hopes of getting in?

I should also mention I am considering two very different routes - medical history and medical research. Neither of my previous degrees are related to either of these routes in any way, I'll be relying on my MBBS and supporting experience, but they'll have to be reviewed anyway.

How does my oxford law application fare?

Hello everyone, kinda anxious over my oxford law application so thought id get some general feedback on how it stacks up against the competition.

Stats:
International student
(Gsce equivalent)Cbse 10th grade:
English 96% A1
French 91% B2(positional grading i.e compared to all the students who attempted the CBSE French exam in india)
Mathematics 92% A1
Science 94% A1
Social Science 91% A1
Overall average 92.8%
(Translates to all 9s and maybe a couple 8s)

Cbse 12th grade predicted scores:
Economics 98% Business Studies 98%
Accountancy 95% English 96%
Applied Mathematics 96%
**Overall average**
**96.6%**
(Roughly translates to all A\*)

A very high praising academic reference

Lnat(25-29) my main concern tbh

A very unique personal statement going into depth about a personal legal injustice faced by my family and how that pushed me to legal literature and questions on judgement and its legitimacy aswell as a project on Reed V reed tied to the question of "what elements constitute a just judgement ". Also includes Chairing an international court of justice simulation commitee of MUN where i had the role of judge and again tying to how biasness and partiality seeps into every judgement passed.

Applied to oxford LSE UCL KCL and unsure of where to apply for my final slot.

Any and all opinions/thoughts are appreciated.
Thank you for ur time and effort!!

Cambridge Graduate Applications - Reasons for Applying vs Career Goals

Hey everyone, I'm a recent university graduate applying for the MPhil in Politics and International Studies at Cambridge. I have been preparing my statements of purpose for a while now, but I opened up the application portal last week and became a bit confused. The department website told me that I needed to prepare a core statement on my reasons for applying and a research proposal that describes why Cambridge is a good place for me to conduct this study, but the portal asks for that as well as a statement on my career goals. What are the differences between these three questions (beyond what's actually described on the course websites, don't worry, I checked before coming to reddit)? My career goals and my research ideas both significantly overlap with my reasons for applying, so I want to make sure I'm not wasting space here.

How does Oxford shortlisting redistribution work?

I applied to Brasenose but I'm wondering how tutors decide which shortlisted applicants that applied to their college to keep and which to reallocate to other colleges? Say you were to get an interview at a different college, would that mean you were a weaker candidate in the eyes of the tutors at the college you applied to, or is it random?

Economics Interview

I’m applying to Economics at Selwyn, Cambridge and I am really really stressed about the interviews. There’s 1 maths interview, 1 economics interview and 1 general interview. What topics should I be learning in a bit more depth. I know of game theory and graph sketching but what else could be asked. If any past economics students at cambridge are happy to, would you mind dm me what questions you were asked please!! Also, does anyone know if Selwyn asks about personal statement (because I’ve heard Cambridge doesn’t ask about it at all if they even read it) or gives pre reading.

Thank you and good luck to anyone else applying this year!!!

Did worse on the LNAT due to trauma, is Cambridge still in the game?

I’ve been going through a trauma flare up for the past few months. It’s caused quite significant cognitive deterioration, even my teachers noticed. My doctor sent an email to my Cambridge college telling them how my performance in school was affected by it. I’ve also had my teacher discuss my trauma in the UCAS reference as it impacted my GCSEs as well.

Of course, my LNAT was weaker as a result. I got 20-24 in section A, not sure about the essay (which Cambridge considers). Cambridge offer holders’ average LNAT score is usually about 30. I did try, I did prepare and use the best resources. I’m so disappointed, but also not surprised. I was in a very difficult state cognitively with my trauma flare up.

I’m really worried Cambridge is out of the bag now. I know I’m extenuating, but I really doubt it will make much of a difference, or will it?

I think my other stats are quite good. I’m predicted two A* one A, including an A* in EPQ, with being one of the top 1% in my school. I’ve achieved 99999988888 in a non-selective state school with trauma impacting my GCSEs. My personal statement was checked by Cambridge students and said it was very good.

I hate how something out of my control can impact my application in such a significant way. I didn’t ask to bear the consequences of a traumatic event that happened to me years ago at the hands of someone else. Other applicants are so lucky. I envy that they’re reaching for their dreams without something like trauma holding them back. Cambridge is my dream, still my dream, and yet I’ve had to fight my trauma since GCSE just to give myself a fighting chance.

I don’t know what to do. I’ve cried all night. I‘m still shocked. At last, my trauma has impacted my application in a way I was trying to prevent for years. And before you mention it, I’m due for trauma therapy but I have to wait until January due to the long waiting list. What can I do? Is Cambridge still in the game for me? Any help would be appreciated :(

Planning on applying for Oxford PPE (and LSE/UCL/KCL/Edinburgh) with achieved A-Levels for 2028 cycle

Hey everyone,

I am an international applicant from Turkey preparing my UCAS application for 2028 intake for PPE across the UK, targeting Oxford as my primary choice alongside LSE, UCL, KCL, and Edinburgh. I am currently completing my A-Levels under the Cambridge curriculum, predicted A\* in Mathematics, A\* in Business Studies, and A or A\* in History, alongside ongoing Further Mathematics coursework. My background also includes a Cambridge ICE with Distinction at IGCSE, a High Commendation in Philosophy and a Commendation in Politics at the John Locke Global Essay Competition, and extensive MUN leadership spanning over 25 conferences, including serving as Secretary-General of my school's conference and volunteering with the local Youth Council. My academic interests center on reading from Bertrand Russell, Hegel, Machiavelli, Adam Smith, and Acemoglu.

For my Oxford application, I am preparing for the TARA admissions test and aiming for a high competitive band to support a direct application to St John’s College, with University College (Univ) as a secondary preference.

I would appreciate any feedback or insights from current students and applicants on a few specific questions:

First, given that I achieve my A-Level grades are (A\*A\*A), how heavily will Oxford and LSE weigh my TARA score and essay distinctions during shortlisting and offer decisions compared to standard predicted-grade applicants?

Second, is St John’s College still considered an optimal strategic choice for PPE applicants seeking a strong quantitative cohort, solid in-house tutorial fellows, and generous undergraduate grant support?

Third, does anyone know the current operational status of the Ahmet Ertegun Memorial Scholarship for undergraduates at Oxford? Is this undergraduate award still actively funded and awarded to incoming Turkish undergrads, or has it been merged/discontinued in recent cycles? (Because I wasn't able to find it on the internet)

Finally, are there other major undergraduate full-funding options at Oxford or LSE that international applicants targeting complete financial coverage should keep on their radar?

Thanks in advance for any advice, TARA preparation tips, or college selection insights!

Title: Oxford Chemistry open applicant allocated Worcester — email says further info by end of October?

Just got allocated Worcester College for Oxford Chemistry through an open application.
The thing that's caught my attention is the email I received, which says:
“You will receive further information from the college or hall before the end of October. Please ensure that you regularly check your email account entered on your UCAS application.”

Does anyone know what this means in terms of interview decisions? Is it likely that we'll hear whether we've been shortlisted by the end of October, or is this just referring to general college information?

I'm a bit confused because I thought Oxford Chemistry interview decisions usually came out later in November/December.

Has anyone else who's applied this year received the same email? Or does anyone from previous years remember getting similar wording?

Thanks!
