[PHQ] Popheads Quarterly Q3 2026 - The Bonus Tracks 🗳️🏵️
Greetings again, dear Popheads,
As mentioned in our Q3 submissions post from Saturday, we're rolling out a few new facets to the zine we hope you'll join us in taking for a test drive.
💿 To submit your commentary and grades for the albums of the quarter, GO HERE!
Popheads Reader Polls
Our lovely editors have put together some fun potpourri questions any Pophead is sure to enjoy (and have a vote-worthy opinion on). You can submit for those here!
The Deep Dive Series
There's nothing quite like the musical experience of deep diving an artist's discography. But more often than not, especially for legends with sprawling discographies, many a listener might find themselves locked in choice paralysis. To quote Olivia Rodrigo, as she started her growing catalogue: "God, I don't even know where to start!"
Well, the Quarterly and the users of Popheads are here to help change that. Cast your vote to help new listeners determine the ideal road map for exploring the discography of some of our favorite artists. You'll be able to choose what you'd recommend as the first, second, and third spin.
To kick us off, in honor of Confessions II and her undeniable status as a "start" of sorts for many a pop diva to come after, we're doing our inaugural Deep Dive poll for Madonna.
You can vote for your takes to get someone Into the Groove here!
All submissions are open until November 20th, so spend the upcoming month in the most excellent way possible -- sharing your opinions with the Quarterly.
Express yourself, hey, hey, hey, hey,
-- Your PHQ Staff

[DISCUSSION] Artists who are not usually known for their albums- which is their best album?
I was watching this video of Vanessa Williams performing her song "The First Thing On Your Mind" and I noticed that a lot of the comments on this and another video of the song were specifically praising the album it came from as "the best thing Vanessa ever released."
Vanessa Williams (while an icon in her own right) is not really an artist that I think of as having an especially acclaimed music career- most people would only be able to name a few songs, which is why I think it was so interesting to get the perspective of her fans and see that she does have a "classic" album to her name, at least in their eyes.
Although the terms "singles artist" and "album artist" are entirely arbitrary, made-up terms, I did think it could be fun to go a bit further with this line of thinking.
If you're familiar with the discography of an artist primarily known for only a few singles (especially older ones), which album stands out as their BEST? What is it about it that makes it so good, better than the others and better than people might expect?

Personal Chart of the Week
One of the joys some people have on the chart is seeing their own impact on the chart. Whether its seeing your #1 song at #1, or seeing it bubbling under, people like seeing songs they like being adored by other users. In this section, one lucky chart participant will see their own chart and the impact it had on the full chart this week. NOTE: In the case of charts exceeding 15 songs, I will trim down the lowest tie to fit the chart by using the songs that charted the highest (or are funniest). This week, we have the chart of /u/seusscannon!

The tracking dates for the next weekly chart is October 22, 12:00 PM GMT - October 29, 11:59 AM GMT and results will come out next Monday, November 2.
How The Chart Works:
These charts are created based on how frequently each song appears in the top 10 songs/albums for all of the users signed up for the chart. If the song or album occupies that user's #1 spot in their individual chart, it receives 15 points, then 14 points for #2, so on and so forth until 6 points for #10. If there is a tie, which is a common occurrence, then the number of points is averaged across those positions, e.g. if two songs are tied for #1, both will receive 14.5 points. Oftentimes there will be multiple songs tied for the last place, in which case the number of points each song receives decreases until it bottoms out at 1 point each.
