SPECIAL EDITION October 15th Reaction Thread (2026)
✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨
Hello 2026-2027 cycle MD applicants! Here is your thread for October 15th hype, reactions, and discussion.
Congrats to everyone who's interviewed with MD schools and is patiently waiting for a decision! (Also congrats to those who have been accepted early decision MD or DO.)
October 15th is the first day MD schools are recommended to release acceptances to regular decision applicants, based on AMCAS traffic rules. (Note that some schools do their own thing and may have already sent out acceptances or will send initial acceptances later.)
The mod team wishes you all the best. Manifest those As!!!
Please keep all October 15th discussion and reactions in this thread. If you make an individual post about your acceptance over the next few days, we’ll probably remove it.
Also please don’t lose hope if you haven’t received any interviews or acceptances at this point in the cycle. It’s not over until it’s over, which can be over a year following the opening of AMCAS in May!

SPECIAL EDITION Secondaries Directory (2026-2027)
Welcome to the 2027 application cycle!
AMCAS, AACOMAS, and TMDSAS are all open for submission and currently transmitting to schools. If you've had a chance to submit your primary application and want to get ahead on writing secondary essays, this post is for you.
To track how far along AMCAS is with verification, check the following:
Below are some resources you can use to pre-write essays, track which schools have sent out secondaries, and monitors schools' progress through the cycle.
Admit.org:
Admit has a year-to-year database of which secondary prompts were sent by each school. This is very helpful in tracking current cycle prompts you have not received or predicting whether a school is likely to change their prompts this cycle. Admit also has individual school-specific threads.
Admit secondary essay prompts database
Student Doctor Network (SDN):
SDN has a secondary essay prompts database, an interview feedback database, and school-specific threads. The secondary essay prompts database and school-specific threads are similar to Admit, while the interview feedback database is unique to SDN. You can use it to find information about interview formats, typical interview questions, and overall impressions from each medical school's interview day.
SDN secondary essays prompts database
SDN interview feedback database
School-specific threads:
Current cycle: MD schools and DO schools
Prior cycle: MD schools and DO schools
Once secondaries are sent by schools, users post the prompts into the school-specific threads, and the prompts are edited into the first comment of the thread. If secondaries are not yet posted for the current cycle, you can refer to the prior cycle's thread, the secondary essay database, or Admit for pre-writing.
Reminder of Rule 10: Use school-specific threads for school-specific questions.
The biggest issue with Reddit is that it is not organized to track information longitudinally. Popular posts get buried after a day or two. Even if Admit or SDN are not your preferred platforms, they are set up better for the organization of school-specific information over time. We ask that you use school-specific threads (either on Admit or SDN) for school-specific questions and discussion, sorry.
Consider using CycleTrack!
Created by u/DanielRunsMSN and /u/Infamous-Sail-1, both MD/PhD students, "CycleTrack is a free tool for creating school lists, tracking application cycle actions, visualizing your cycle with graphs and contributing your de-identified data to make the application process more transparent and more accessible."
Good luck this cycle everyone!

🗨 Interviews Pre-med advisor just gave me the most unconventional advice for my MMI tomorrow
He basically said everything anyone else would say NOT to do.
-He said to have an “interesting background” for the zoom and that it’s better to be on a beach than in a white wall
-That I should try to incorporate as much medical knowledge as possible into my responses
-To wear my hair up (mind you I look unpresentable like that, to which he said that hair down and neat is still unprofessional)
Now I’m conflicted

🔮 App Review Facing an academic misconduct report for AI use. Is my medical school future ruined?
I’m currently an undergraduate student who has been planning to pursue medical school, and I’m honestly feeling extremely overwhelmed about a situation involving one of my professors.
For a course, I completed my work using my own notes, writing, and the example outline and rubric provided by my professor. However, I also used AI to help understand statistical results and to receive feedback on grammar and clarity. I reviewed the feedback and made my own revisions rather than having AI write the assignment for me.
During a meeting with my professor, I explained some of my AI use, but I didn’t initially disclose everything clearly. I was extremely nervous, and some details only came up after he asked additional questions. He interpreted those inconsistencies as possible dishonesty.
My professor’s syllabus required express permission for any AI use, which I did not obtain. I understand that this is a serious issue, even though I completed the writing myself.
Initially, I received a grade on the assignment. However, my professor has now changed the grade to a zero and submitted an academic misconduct report. I have been told that I can appeal.
This would be my first academic misconduct finding, and I’m terrified about how it could affect my chances of attending medical school. My biggest concern isn’t the zero itself but having an institutional action on my academic record that I may need to disclose on future applications.
I’m considering appealing, but I’m unsure how realistic my chances are, especially since the syllabus required permission for AI use.
My questions are:
Has anyone received an academic misconduct violation involving AI and still been accepted to medical school?
How seriously do medical schools view a first-time violation involving AI feedback versus having AI generate an assignment?
Is there any possibility of recovering from something like this academically and professionally?
Does anyone have experience appealing an academic misconduct finding?
I’m not looking to avoid responsibility for using AI without permission. I’m trying to understand whether one mistake could permanently affect my future and what I can realistically do moving forward.
I’d really appreciate advice from anyone who has experienced something similar.

❔ Question how bad/stressful is med school?
hi! i know this is a premed sub but i know some people are on here that have made it to med school so just wanted to ask.
i’ve heard from a lot of people that med school will consume your life and that you have to be super passionate about medicine. i’m now reconsidering if med school is the right path for me. i find the mind and brain really interesting, i’ve always wanted to be a neuropsychiatrist and i find the work that they do aligns with what i would want for a dream job.
the thing that makes me hesitant is that everyone says that you won’t be able to have hobbies or spend time with family, i can’t just let those go. i love working out and have some free time with family. it has helped my mental health tremendously and i don’t think i’ll be happy at all if i have to give it all up for med school. i really am interested in medicine but not to the extent of some other people, i can imagine a different job but i don’t think i’d enjoy any other job as much as i would with something related to psychiatry. the pay is also nice.
i don’t think i could handle it if it is as bad as people say, i have been maybe searching for other careers to pursue but all the careers i’ve looked into haven’t interested me besides the medical ones.
i just wanna know some of yalls experience from starting the process to med school and being in med school, how hard has it been. do you think anyone can balance their life and school without med school consuming their life?
i am fairly new to this as well, i’m a freshmen in college majoring in psychology. i still have a lot to learn and i’m thinking of trying to volunteer in some healthcare field to get an idea of how it is to help my decision.
thanks!

❔ Discussion Xavier Ochsner wants a 500 and won’t consider postbacc/grad stuff… thoughts??
They just published the min MCAT is a 500 and also:
“For this admissions cycle, we will consider only your undergraduate science GPA. Graduate and post-baccalaureate science GPAs will not be considered toward this minimum.”
For an HBCU I personally feel they’re really making it clear they don’t understand the correlation between being URM and everything involved with getting to a place of applying to med school, nor do they appreciate the challenges overcome by us (i.e. having to do postbacc work etc.) It kinda makes me really upset.
Don’t come for me it’s just my thoughts, what are yours??

❔ Question Should I get rid of Physics or animal physiology?
Do you think this would be too much for a single semester? The highest number of science classes that I have taken in the same semester has been 3. Was thinking of 4 this semester so that I could have more time to study for the MCAT later on.

❔ Question Should I take a W or a B?
I’m currently taking physics 1 as an undergrad sophomore. My sGPA is a 3.95 but I haven’t taken any really hard upper division courses so I want to keep a good stable foundation. I’m sitting at a B- right now but am positive I can get it to a B or B+. But, I dont know if it’s better to have a B or a W so my GPA isn’t heavily impacted. What should I do?

😢 SAD advice for a premed struggling
I honestly don’t even know where to start, but I really need advice from people who have been through something similar.
I’m a sophomore majoring in Health Humanities on a premed track, and my goal is to become a physician. I was fortunate enough to get accepted into an early acceptance program with my dream medical school as a sophomore in undergrad, which was something I was incredibly proud of. Becoming a doctor is something I genuinely want, and I don’t think I’ve ever been more certain about a career.
But lately, I feel like I’m completely falling apart.
I’ve been dealing with so much outside of school while trying to maintain my grades, work in healthcare, manage my finances, and keep moving toward medical school. I’ve had personal struggles that have taken a significant emotional toll on me, and I’ve been trying so hard to make sure none of it ruins the future I’m working toward.
Now I’m dealing with an issue involving my chemistry coursework. I took a chemistry course over the summer, earned a 90, and paid out of pocket for it. Now there’s an issue with whether that coursework will count the way I expected it to, and I’m trying to get answers from my school. It’s incredibly frustrating to feel like I did what I was supposed to do, put in the work, spent the money, and still ended up in a situation where my academic plans might be affected.
On top of that, I’m taking organic chemistry, and I have an exam tomorrow. I’ve been struggling to find the energy to study because I’m so mentally exhausted. I emailed my professor to ask about my options because I genuinely don’t know if I’m in the right headspace to take the exam tomorrow.
And then there’s my personal life. My boyfriend left for Army basic training today. I’m proud of him, but it’s still a huge emotional adjustment, and today has been harder than I expected.
The truth is, this exhaustion didn’t start today. It’s been building for weeks. Today just feels like the last straw.
I’m at the point where I don’t want to go to school. I don’t want to go to work. I don’t want to study or deal with another problem. I just want to lie in bed and cry.
What scares me is that I STILL want to be a doctor. If I could magically remove all these obstacles, I would still choose medicine. I haven’t stopped wanting the career itself. I’m just so tired of fighting my way toward it.
Sometimes it genuinely feels like the universe doesn’t want me to become a physician. Every time I feel like I’m getting somewhere, something else happens, and I’m back to stressing about my future.
I know medical school is difficult. I know being a physician requires resilience, sacrifice, and hard work. I’m not expecting the path to be easy, and I’m not looking for someone to tell me to quit just because I’m struggling. But I’m starting to wonder how I’m supposed to sustain this pace for years without completely burning myself out.
I think I’m struggling because I’ve invested so much of myself into this dream, and I’m scared of losing it. But I’m also scared of continuing like this until I have nothing left.
I don’t need generic advice about working harder or developing better study habits. I need honest advice from people who understand what it’s like to want medicine so badly while feeling completely exhausted by the process of getting there.
There is also an honorable mention in this: I was originally in nursing school before this. I’m questioning if this is meant for me after all these hardships. I’m questioning if this will kill my drive to be a doctor.
My heart hurts. Everyone knows I got accepted, so what would I look like dropping out?
I want to become a doctor. I just don’t know how to keep doing all of this right now.
Thank you to anyone who takes the time to respond.

❔ Question med school after getting charged with trespassing
Gonna keep this short. I got charged with 3rd degree trespassing while exploring an abandoned building with my friends (very stupid and reckless decision, i know, but it was very out of character for me). The court is dropping my charges after i finish community service, but I got a warning from my university because of it. I learned a lot from this incident and I'm a good student otherwise. How much will this impact my chances of getting into med school? I am a sophomore in undergrad currently and I'm really stressed about this!! Any insight is appreciated.

✉️ LORs Did anyone else receive this email from UTHSC? I'm worried about my LOR?
UTHSC typically requests 2 LOR from science professors. However since I'm a non-trad and have been out of college for a bit, I asked if I letter from my PI (I have been working as a full time RA since graduation) would suffice in addition to 1 science professor, and they said yes. But I got this email and am worried now... Email below.
"As we move through the admissions process, we encourage you to take a moment to confirm that all letters of evaluation have been released to UT Health Sciences through AMCAS. Ensuring that your application materials have been received will help us continue reviewing your application as efficiently as possible.
We receive a substantial number of applications each year and, unfortunately, are unable to interview every applicant. As our review progresses, we will continue communicating decisions and status updates, including interview invitations and other admissions decisions, as appropriate. Our goal is to communicate decisions as promptly as possible so that applicants can plan accordingly. You can expect to receive periodic updates from our office until an admissions decision has been communicated."

❔ Question online courses
thoughts about taking upper level online courses thru UC extension? need to boost my GPA and have already taken 5 courses in person but need flexibility next semester to work on EC’s. current gpa 3.3 (before these 5 courses)
is it looked down upon to do online courses- considering i’ve done one semester of in person and am planning to do a masters program which will be all in person?
thanks!

☑️ Extracurriculars part time receptionist?
i have a medial assistant certification and have been looking for a part time role with literally no luck since july. i’ve only gotten 2 interviews and lost both bc lack of experience (i think?). i’ve applied to basically all places nearby and cold called 30 clinics in an area im interested in. NO LUCK!!
one place i emailed for volunteer opportunities said they have an open part time receptionist role. i basically explained to the hiring manager that i would rather volunteer bc im looking for a more clinical patient experiencing role. she responded by saying that after training, its possible that their medical assistant could switch with me one day so i could do 1 day clinical MA, 2 receptionist MA (for total of 3 days a week). leaning more toward this bc of pay & wider scope i can do as an MA (volunteering would just be vitals and bringing in patients). thoughts about this? has anyone done something similar?
if i do this, is it alright to list on my application that it’s a medical assistant role and focus on the clinical aspect? for example, if i do 500 hours total but 300 of them was receptionist.. is that something i have to explain or is it alright to focus on the clinical aspect while also briefly mentioning my role as a receptionist in my application?
thanks for your help in advance!

🔮 App Review Do I need a gap year? (Third Year)
GPA: 3.96
MCAT: TBD (practice full length 518 as of now)
Shadowing: 160 hours
Clinical: 320 hours (this was all done the summer before my freshman year of college)
Volunteering: 180 hours (clinical + non clinical)
Wet Lab Research: 1000+ hours (will have 1 pub, 1 poster, and 1 talk given at a conference by time of application)
Clinical Research: Helped work on two case reports at a hospital
Club: no exec position, but have made substantial contributions to this club
Left out some “fluff” ECs
Notes:
This is all very broad for privacy reasons but I will say that all of my ECs contribute to my narrative. I think my weaker aspects are leadership and potentially clinical experience. For leadership, I’m planning on talking about one of my volunteer experiences as a tutor for high school students. When it comes to clinical experience, I feel like I can talk about my experience well but I’m not sure how adcoms will take it being somewhat far removed. I do plan on getting a clinical job next semester after my mcat in January.
I know my research output isn’t that high, but I feel like it was probably one of my most impactful experiences. What are some more research oriented med schools I should apply to?

❔ Question Do schools hold your application if you’re retaking the MCAT?
If you apply with an existing MCAT score but indicate that you’re retaking it, do schools hold your application until the new score comes in? Or could they review based on your current score?

😡 Vent friends are not happy for me :(
am i supposed to tell friends who applied at the same time about acceptances and interviews when they are not having the same success in their cycle?
i'm not sure whether i can talk about it or not, especially when i can tell they are upset when i tell them but also upset when i keep these things from them. my close friend didn't even congratulate me or even respond after i texted about my first A, and it feels pretty terrible. :(
