Transport Train travel on strike day 10/30
Just bought Rome/Florence round trip tickets on the Frecciarossa for the strike day of 10/30, however I bought tickets for trains on the guaranteed list (#9516 and #9551). We would go another day if we could, but 10/30 was the only day that works!
What’s has everyone’s experience been when traveling on a strike day? Expect delays? Guaranteed means definite right 😂 (Sorry, just don’t want to risk not being able to see Florence!)

Miscellaneous Celebrante in Rome ?
Hi All,
I am planning on a symbolic wedding either on 1st or 2nd Jan 2027.
There would be no decor, just want nature to be my backdrop...
Maybe a garden or a viewpoint.suggestion are welcome
A quick 15 mins ceremony. :) no announcements or anything.. just marry us simply.
It will be just me and my partner. And a photographer (yet to decide)
I am checking out few celebrante and most of them are charging above 450 Euros. It's way over my budget.
Unfortunately, I don't have any friends in Italy or else I would have asked them or paid them some amount.
Does anyone know any officiant who is affordable?

Any tourists who’d like to catchup in Rome
Been (solo) traveling for months. Now in Italy since beginning of October . Will go to Rome next week onwards and was wondering if any fellow solo or group tourists would like to catchup for an espresso, drink, walk or an art museum walk around or similar activity.
Briefly about me : mid 30s male, frequent traveler, enjoy photography and art, introvert (putting myself out there on reddit) work in tech company owner mostly remote and while traveling.
Cheers

Food and drink How can I send food to my friends in Rome if I’m in the Philippines?
Hi everybody! It’s my friend’s birthday and she lives in Rome, while I’m in the Philippines at the moment. Is there any way we can send her a cake? For context, in here we have GrabFood (like Doordash, Ubereats) and can order for people in other regions. Looking for a similar platform that has Apple Pay or similar. 🙏 I’d love to surprise her.

Accommodation Where to stay?
Where to stay?
We are staying for 10 nights in March in Rome. We love wandering and enjoying street food and local places. We are also frugal. We love exploring large hypermart grocery stores.
We plan on doing day trips to Naples, Salerno, Tivoli, and Orvieto. If we save enough on accommodations we can overnight in some of these places.
Our options for apartments are:
$160 a night heart of Trastevere
$130 a night Testaccio Main Street
$110 a night Ostiense
$80 a night by Numidio Quadrato metro station
Any experience or advice on these areas, or ideas and opinions are welcome and greatly appreciated 🙏🏻

Tourism Concerned about safety for upcoming trip
We would be visiting Rome for 5 days in second week of November 2026 to celebrate our 5th wedding anniversary. I was just a bit concerned after hearing recent news, a little more so because our toddler would be with us as well.
So is there any reason to be seriously concerned? This is not our first visit to Rome so it would be more of a relaxed trip and wont have any heavy sight seeing.
It would be really helpful if anyone could share there recent experiences in Rome. 🙏🏻

Miscellaneous Police misconduct & abuse at Vatican security checkpoint (Scanner 3) - Looking for advice / experiences
I already submitted this report to the Carabinieri and other the relevant Italian authorities. Disclosure: Since English is not my native language, I used the AI to translate my original text, since I wrote it in Greek. This is my report:
On October 25, 2026, at approximately 13:40, I was present at the entrance security checkpoint of St. Peter’s Basilica, specifically at Scanner No. 3, in order to undergo the prescribed security screening and enter the premises.
I was accompanied by my friends, S.K., A.S. and N.K.
At the aforementioned time, the personnel stationed at the specific checkpoint included, among others, a female police officer and a male police officer; the latter having black hair, a black goatee (pizzo), and a height of approximately 1.75 m, who is the primary subject of this complaint.
After passing through the screening machine normally, retrieving my personal belongings, and completing the standard physical search, I was informed that I could depart the checkpoint and proceed toward the entrance.
While I was already walking away, having left the plastic bin neatly on the exit counter of the scanner, the aforementioned officer called out to me in a loud and assertive tone, ordering me to return and demanding that I manually place the bin onto the return lane for subsequent visitors.
I replied to him in a calm and courteous manner that, to my understanding, the management and return of checkpoint equipment constitutes an operational duty of the security personnel, rather than an obligation of the screened visitor, and that I had in no way mishandled or improperly discarded the equipment.
Immediately following my response, the officer reacted in a highly aggressive and agitated manner, shouting at me and demanding that I carry out his order.
I asked him to address me in an appropriate and respectful manner and to cease his aggressive behavior.
Following this, and in the presence of my friends as well as a crowd of other visitors present at the checkpoint, the officer further escalated his behavior and, according to the precise meaning of his words, stated to me:
“Oh, is that so? Now you'll see what you get. Step back behind the scanner.”
Immediately thereafter, he compelled me to return to the checkpoint, despite the fact that the initial screening had already been completed and I had been authorized to proceed.
He forced me once again to remove and place my personal belongings for inspection and subjected me to a second, extensive physical body search (pat-down).
To my understanding, this second search was not conducted as a result of any new, objective security incident, but immediately following our verbal exchange and after he had explicitly stated that “now you'll see what you get.”
During this second physical search, he patted me down extensively across my entire body in a manner that I experienced as humiliating, punitive, and disproportionate, while continuing to address me in a hostile tone.
Concurrently, he declared with arrogance that, should he so wish, he had the power to remove me entirely from the premises and deny me entry to the Basilica.
I responded that his threats did not concern me in the least and that he was required, under all circumstances, to act in accordance with his lawful duties and authority.
Subsequently, the officer began, in an intense tone, repeatedly asking me which country I was from.
When I answered that I was from Greece, he brought his face extremely close to mine, inappropriately violating my personal space, and yelled the word:
“MALAKA”
This specific Greek profanity, which translates to “wanker” and is widely recognized internationally, was uttered by him immediately upon learning of my Greek origin, an act I perceived as racist hate speech.
The incident occurred publicly, in front of my friends, other visitors, and individuals waiting to undergo security screening, with all that this implies regarding the reported officer's professional disposition, self-control, and overall conduct.
Following the above behavior, I explicitly stated to him that I would lodge a formal complaint against him and repeatedly requested that he disclose his identity or official service identification details so that I could submit my complaint.
The officer persistently refused to disclose any identity or official service identification details and, instead, continuously shouted at me in an inappropriate manner to leave the area.
At that point, several other police officers gathered around us, attempting to ascertain what was taking place. Under these conditions, and given his steadfast refusal to state his identity, I departed from the area, also wishing to avoid further delaying other visitors.
