As a Giants fan I forgot how great it feels to get hits with runners in scoring position. Whenever the bases are loaded I just get this general feeling of dread. Go Brew Crew!

QUALITY CONTENT Jerar Encarnacion was a Giant from 2024-2026 and was bad (.619 ops). However, as a [non-SFG pro baseball player] during that time, he was spectacular: .319 / .383 / .595, .977 OPS. Combined it’s a full season: 156 G, 570 AB, 44 HR, 125 RBI, 93 R. Fly on AAAA eagle
What's included:
Sacramento (AAA, SFG) 2024: 33 G, .352/.438/.616, 10 HR
Oaxaca (Mexican League) 2024: 26 G, .366/.439/.989, 19 HR
Sacramento (AAA, SFG) 2025: 24 G, .274/.378/.464, 4 HR
ACL Giants (Rk, SFG) 2025: 2 G, 4-for-6
Yokohama (Japan Central League) 2026: 64 G, .293/.321/.494, 11 HR
Yokohama (Japan Farm League) 2026: 7 G, .304/.360/.391
What's excluded: his SFG MLB stints in 2024 (35 G), 2025 (19 G) and 2026 (17 G), plus winter ball.
If you want Dominican Winter League (Aguilas 2024-25 and 2025-26) included too, it becomes .312/.378/.559, .937 OPS, 50 HR over 767 AB.

Opinion (Jim Bowden views Giants as a fit for Lowe, Holmes, Taira, Itoh) Top 40 MLB free agents for 2026-27: Contract predictions, team fits for Skubal, Peralta, more
9. Brandon Lowe, 2B
DOB: 07/06/1994 | B/T: L/R | 2026 bWAR: 5.4
2026 Team: Pittsburgh Pirates
There is no doubt that when Lowe is healthy, he is one of the best power-hitting second basemen in the game. This year, he was healthy and played in a career-high 150 games, belting 29 doubles and 35 homers with a 121 OPS+. Not only did he perform offensively, but he was among the best defensive second basemen, ranking in the 96th percentile in defensive run value.
The Pirates would love him to return and he certainly enjoyed his time there, but it’s more likely he’ll sign elsewhere given the contracts he’ll likely be offered after the season he just completed.
Salary comps: Gleyber Torres (1 year, $22.025 million — Qualifying Offer); Luis Arraez (1 year, $12 million); Tommy Edman (5 years, $74 million); Jeff McNeil (4 years, $50 million)
Best team fits: San Francisco Giants, Pittsburgh Pirates, San Diego Padres
Contract prediction: 3 years, $45 million
Agent: Hunter Bledsoe, The Bledsoe Agency
10. Clay Holmes, RHP
DOB: 03/27/1993 | B/T: r/R | 2026 bWAR: 2.0
2026 Teams: New York Mets and Chicago Cubs
Holmes made nine starts with the Mets to start the year, posting an impressive 2.39 ERA. Then he suffered a freak injury when he was hit in the leg by a line drive and missed nearly three months. While he was on the IL, he was dealt to the Cubs at the deadline. With the Cubs, he had a 4.25 ERA in nine starts, finishing the season overall with a 3.29 ERA in 101 1/3 innings.
Holmes throws a bowling-ball sinker almost 50 percent of the time, which netted an impressive 62 percent ground-ball rate. His sweeper was his second-best pitch and his changeup is solid, too. He can start or relieve, which increases his free-agent value.
Salary comps: Seth Lugo (2 years, $46 million); Michael Wacha (3 years, $51 million); Merrill Kelly (2 years, $40 million); Jack Flaherty (2 years, $35 million)
Best team fits: San Francisco Giants, Chicago White Sox
Contract prediction: 2 years, $44 million
Agent: The-Team
18. Kaima Taira, RHP
DOB: 11/15/1999 | B/T: L/R | 2026 bWAR: N/A
2026 Team: Seibu Lions (NPB)
Taira is one of the most intriguing free-agent pitchers because of his frame. He’s only 5-foot-8 and weighs approximately 225 pounds. He is aptly nicknamed “fire hydrant.” You can’t make this up. He was a dominant reliever in 2025, saving 31 games, and then transitioned back into the Seibu rotation this season. He had a 1.36 ERA, allowing just 95 hits over 146 innings but also walked 45 batters. He won the ERA title this year.
Taira’s fastball ranges from 97-100 mph, and he has a 92-mph cutter with late break plus several offspeed and breaking pitches with lots of different shapes and sizes coming out of his hand, making his repertoire unpredictable. He is capable of starting or relieving.
Salary comps: Cody Ponce (3 years, $30 million); Kenley Jansen (1 year, $11 million); Aroldis Chapman (1 year, $13.3 million); Pete Fairbanks (1 year, $13 million); Ryan Helsley (2 years, $28 million — player option for the second year)
Best team fits: Athletics, Colorado Rockies, Los Angeles Angels, San Francisco Giants
Contract prediction: 3 years, $30 million
Agent: Scott Boras, Boras Corp.
27. Hiromi Itoh, RHP
DOB: 08/30/1997 | B/T: L/R | 2026 bWAR: N/A
2026 Team: Nippon Ham Fighters (NPB)
Itoh went 10-10 last year for Nippon with a 3.18 ERA over 172 2/3 innings. He was the Ham Fighters’ first-round selection in the 2020 NPB draft out of Tomakomai Komazawa University. He has a smaller build, standing 5-foot-9 and weighing approximately 180 pounds. He is known for impeccable control and command and has a wide range of pitches with eight to 10 different pitch shapes and sizes, including a heavy sinking fastball. He was part of Japan’s 2023 WBC Gold Medal team and won the Eiji Sawamura Award in 2025, the NPB’s equivalent to the Cy Young Award.
Salary comps: Cody Ponce (3 years, $30 million); Tyler Mahle (1 year, $10 million); Zach Eflin (1 year, $10 million); Anthony Kay (2 years, $12 million)
Best team fits: Toronto Blue Jays, San Francisco Giants, Atlanta Braves
Contract prediction: 2 years, $22 million
Agent: Joel Wolfe, Wasserman

Minors Update Arizona Fall League Quick-Notes 10/27/26 - Dalton Wentz Homers as Jordan Gets 2 Hits
A good day today for the Scottsdale Scorpions and the Giants contingent of prospects. Dalton Wentz hit his first home run of the fall, and the first home run over the wall for any of the Giants hitters, as he knocked in three runs. Meanwhile, the team-leader in RBI is Dakota Jordan after he knocked in three with a pair of hits. And Drake George bounced back from a terrible outing to have a good one. Meanwhile, we highlight a hulking pitcher in the Fall League who hits triple-digits regularly!
Non-Giant Prospect to Highlight of the Day: Jarlin Susana (MLB #65; WAS #3)
I have to spotlight this pitcher today, as Jarlin Susana did something you don’t often see in the Arizona Fall League, going five full innings, and still taking a loss on the day with no offensive support. Jarlin Susana was originally one of the international signings from the San Diego system in 2022 for $1.7 million, but was traded to Washington later that year as part of the 6-person package for Juan Soto and Josh Bell. He has an electric 100+ mph 4-seam fastball, and a 2-seamer that jumps back and forth around 100 MPH, with a mid-80’s slider. He’s still working on his curve and changeup, but his control is his biggest question mark going forward. Susana suffered a torn lat late last season, and didn’t get into games this year until August, and struggled this season as he worked his way back. The hulking 6’7” pitcher has a 4.50 ERA after five starts, easily leading Salt River with 16.0 innings thrown, but has 9 walks to 20 strikeouts. As Susana figures out his health, it will be interesting to see where he goes. The Nationals will keep giving him every chance to be a starter, but he has quite the floor of being an intimidating high-velocity late inning reliever.
Scottsdale: Scottsdale Scorpions 11, Mesa Solar Sox 6
Giants Prospects to Spotlight:
- DH Dakota Jordan (SF #7): 2-5, 1 R, 3 RBI, 1 K, 0-1 ABS - After all the walks, Dakota added a couple more hits to his line, and had three RBI for this win, giving him the team lead with 12. He’s got a slash line of .246/.394/.333 for an OPS of .727 after 15 games.
- 3B Dalton Wentz: 1-4, 2 R, 3 RBI, 1 BB, 1 HR (1), 1 E (3) - Dalton Wentz got his first Fall home run. He did have one in his brief pro debut. With 11 games played, Wentz has the 2nd-highest OPS (.994) for the Scorpions, as he’s hitting .333 and slugging .556.
- RP Drake George: 2.0 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K - Drake George bounced back from his rough outing with a nice two innings. His fall ERA is down to 3.86, but he still has just two strikeouts against three walks in 7.0 innings.

Minors Update Arizona Fall League Quick-Notes 10/26/26 - Jordan Draws Three Walks
Dakota Jordan’s strikeout totals have been a point all month in the Arizona Fall League, but today he did a lot to even out his walk numbers with it as he walked three times and got on base four times in a tough Scottsdale loss, as a 6-run 9th inning rally fell short. Kaeden Kent was back on the field as well getting another pair of hits to fuel his good Fall. Meanwhile, a lot of runs across the AFL today, and an update on the standings!
Standings Update
No prospect of the day today, but I’d like to point out the standings in the Arizona Fall League today. Scottsdale has gone 4-6 in the last ten games, allowing things to even out in the Fall League to wild amounts. Currently, Scottsdale and Surprise are tied for first place with 10-7 records. Meanwhile, there are two teams just a half game behind them at 10-8, with Peoria and Salt River both at that spot. Mesa is 7-9, and Glendale is just 5-13.
All six teams make the playoffs, but the big key is that the Top 2 seeds get a first-round bye, and those two byes are clearly in play. There’s 12 days of games left, so plenty of time for things to separate out again.
Scottsdale: Peoria Javelinas 10, Scottsdale Scorpions 7
Giants Prospects to Spotlight:
- CF Dakota Jordan (SF #7): 0-1, 2 R, 1 RBI, 3 BB, 1 SB (4), 1 HBP - Jordan had a game that reshaped his K:BB ratio. He now has 11 walks to his 20 strikeouts, so while he’s hitting .231, his on-base percentage is at .394.
- 2B Kaeden Kent (SF #20): 2-4, 1 R - Another two hits for Kent, and he’s 11-for-36, a .306 average with a .708 OPS.
Other Scottsdale Prospect Lines:
- LF Zyhir Hope (MLB #26; DET #1): 0-2, 1 R, 1 RBI, 3 BB, 1 K
- DH Braylon Payne (MIL #6): 0-5, 4 K, 0-0 ABS

QUALITY CONTENT MLB catchers who are 6’5” or taller are incredibly rare. But the Giants had one in 1992, when Mark Bailey, in 13 games, had 4 hits in 26 AB (1 double, 0 3B, 0 HR). The next year, 6'5 catcher Andy Allanson played in 13 games for the Giants, going 4 for 24 (1 double, 0 3B, 0 HR).
This marked the first time in MLB HISTORY that a team had consecutive seasons with different 6’5”+ catchers who had 4 hits.
Nobody knows we achieved this feat - prob not even the 2 catchers. But YOU do!

QUALITY CONTENT [No Paywall] Inside Buster Posey’s new pitching plan: ‘We have to make an effort to increase stuff’
When Buster Posey watched Games 1 and 2 of the World Series over the weekend, he might have flashed back to his own three championship runs with the San Francisco Giants. He might have remembered the tingling tension that cannot be recreated in any other environment.
But Posey is more than the Giants’ former franchise catcher. He is also the Giants’ president of baseball operations and chief baseball architect. He has to be more concerned with where the game is going than where it’s been. So most of his immediate thoughts were future-focused. And he freely admits it: When it comes to pitching, the Giants are behind the times.
“All of us that love baseball can watch the playoffs and see how much stuff there is in the game right now,” Posey said. “And the best teams have it.”
The Giants, losers of 97 games, were not one of the best teams this past season. And they most definitely did not have it.
In terms of Stuff+, which seeks to measure the overall run value of pitches based on several factors including velocity and movement, the Giants ranked 26th out of 30 major-league teams. Their 19.5 percent strikeout rate ranked 27th. By any measure, including casual observation, the Giants appeared to be well behind the curve when it came to the modern science of making the best hitters in the world feel uncomfortable.
So Posey has been working on more than creating a target list of free-agent and trade upgrades to his rotation and bullpen in what is almost certain to be a disjointed and labor-affected offseason. He also has spent weeks in intense discussions with his staff this past month, exploring how the Giants can tweak their entire pitching infrastructure.
Most of the changes will be process-based, not personnel-based. Pitching coach Justin Meccage will return as the unquestioned leader of the group. Longtime college coach Frank Anderson, who came along with manager Tony Vitello from the University of Tennessee to be the Giants’ director of pitching, will be reclassified as an assistant pitching coach. Jesse Chavez, who was a rookie coach last season after throwing his last major-league pitch in 2025, will return as the bullpen coach.
Perhaps most significantly, assistant pitching coach Christian Wonders will transition from the major-league staff to a high-profile role in the farm system. Wonders will lead efforts to overhaul the pitching development group at a critical time, after the Giants introduced a wave of high-ceiling pitchers into their system via the draft in July and the trade deadline in early August.

Opinion Giants need to stop pretending 2027 is their only chance to win
msn.comOne of the few bright spots for the Giants was the minor league system in 2026.
The San Francisco organization even earned Farm System of the Year honors proving just how much depth this team has and how much it has improved.
The Giants finally have a list of promising young players who could eventually provide some affordable production and move this team forward with more stability.
But, that isn’t going to happen overnight, either. With that in mind, Posey should be cautious in trading away all this talent for a temporary “fix”.
Of course, every deal would have to be considered, but in doing so, the team should determine whether it would move the organization forward and increase its winning chances further than just 2027.
Players should be added who can be part of the next winning era, not just avoiding another embarrassing season.

Analysis The SF Giants lowered their strikeout rate in 2026, but it came at a cost
SF Giants hitters were the aggressors in the batter’s box, but also without much of an approach
"The Giants were not the most aggressive team in baseball. In fact, their 47.9 percent swing rate was 11th in baseball. Nevertheless, they displayed a suboptimal approach, as their 34.0 percent chase rate and 66.6 percent zone swing rate were both in the bottom third of baseball."

Minors Update Arizona Fall League Quick-Notes 10/24/26 - Randy Rodriguez has Major Struggles
Welp, that did not go well for Randy Rodriguez. He wasn’t able to get anyone out as he walked three of the four batters he faced…but it wasn’t a simple complete loss of control, as I went into some detail about his performance. But in addition, Dakota Jordan did have a good game as Scottsdale lost in extra innings. And everyone’s games were shorter than normal as this Saturday tripleheader was played at Camelback Ranch at Glendale.
Sorry everyone, I should have given a warning that Friday the 23rd was an off-day…but hey, that’s why there was no post for Friday! And for what it’s worth, it’ll be a normal Sunday off, so no post coming for that day.
Non-Giant Prospect to Highlight of the Day: Peyton Olejnik (#29 LAA) (Baseball America Ranking)
Let’s take a look at a prospect who might remind you of a former Giant. Peyton Olejnik isn’t on the MLB Pipeline rankings for the Angels, but he does rank #29 for the team from Baseball America. And he stands out when he stands up, as a 6’11” pitcher on the mound. If he makes the Majors, he will tie former Giant Sean Hjelle (and former Expos/Nationals pitcher Jon Rauch) as the tallest players in MLB history. But he’s got to get there first. The 6th round pick in 2024 had a strong start to his pro career, as he led the California League in strikeouts with 130 in 128.2 innings in 2025, while posting a 4.20 ERA. He has a mid-90’s fastball and has an effective sweeper. But Olejnik really needs to refine his changeup, which has a lot of potential, in order to neutralize left-handed batters if he is going to have a chance to stick as a starter going forward. But he could see a similar path as what Hjelle had to the majors, where his size is its own type of changeup for hitters in relief, with the ability to spot-start when needed.
Scottsdale: Glendale Desert Dogs 5, Scottsdale Scorpions 4 (8 Innings)
Giants Prospects to Spotlight:
- SP Randy Rodriguez: 0.0 IP, 1 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 3 BB, 0 K, 1 HR - Okay, this was a big hiccup for Rodriguez in his comeback. Let’s break this down. The home run came to the first batter he faced, off of a high fastball. Most of the control issues came from the slider. He threw eight of them, only two were strikes, both on fouls. By comparison, he threw 19 fastballs, 13 for strikes. He got to 3-2 against the other three hitters he faced. The third batter he faced had a 12-pitch at-bat, as there were obviously a lot of fouls. So what looks like a bad control night was not truly an absolute loss of all control. However, Rodriguez got just one whiff out of his 27 pitches, on the second pitch he threw (a fastball). Rodriguez was lifted as he was nearly at his pitch count, there was no sign of injury from him. He left the bases loaded, and two runners came in against the reliever who came in. So…a very rough pitching line, but hopefully that adds some context. Oh, and Giants coach Luis Pino, who serves as the pitching coach for Scottsdale, was ejected in the 5th inning, long after that opening inning disaster, but I wouldn’t be surprised if some frustration from that first inning was a part of whatever Pino said that got him tossed.
- LF Dakota Jordan (SF #7): 2-3, 2 R, 1 BB, 1 K, 1 SB (3) - Dakota Jordan got his first 2-hit performance in a little while as he got on base three times at all. He has rehabilitated his numbers pretty well, as he’s still hitting .235 with a .694 OPS.

SATURDAY Anyone else feel triggered by that?
Admittedly, Fox’s broadcast sucks my grundle but it sure looked like Diaz checked his swing

QUALITY CONTENT Dave Fleming on WS international broadcast
Anyone have any idea how to tune into this? I’d much rather hear him than whatever chuckleheads that are on the Fox broadcast.

SATURDAY Dave Flemming>>>>>Joe Davis
So nice to hear a real announcer calling the World Series fairly. Fuck Joe Davis, what an insufferable homer.

Analysis Two relievers who would bring a bit more funkiness to the SF Giants bullpen (Tim Hill, Hoby Milner)
Tim Hill of the New York Yankees (and a former Padre) and Hoby Milner (Cubs and Mariners in 2026) could add unique arm angles to the Giants bullpen.
