Playing with this SONY CFS-88S and I went on SW2. Randomly stumbled across this. (the tripod is an antenna because I lost the original. I have no Bluetooth devices on, so that can't be interference from them)

Discussion Tecsun PL 660

I've had this radio for probably at least 10 years and love it. My only complaint is the inability to make the backlight stay on. That's a pet peeve of mine, I prefer the option to have a radio's backlight remain on if I choose. I don't suppose there is some button combination magic that can make that happen? Probably not, but thought I'd ask. Thanks.

Quick And Easy Dipole For Band Of Choice

Just get a roll of speaker wire, even the small stuff works. figure out about how much lead-in you need, probably a 100ft total would work for most people. Your going to make the antenna and lead in out of one continuous run of wire. Just Do the 468/freq in Mhz and that should give you the total length of the antenna part in feet. Now make a simple knot in the wire right where the middle of this measurement is. Lets say you want a 7mhz antenna for 40 meters. Thats about 66 ft, so measure out 33 ft from one end of the speaker wire, make a knot, then pull the speaker wire apart till it runs into the knot. Now you have the dipole antenna and the rest of the wire you can take to your receiver as a balanced type of antenna. Of course it will be out of balance when you hook it up to a receiver with unbalanced terminals, but will still work just fine. The lead in will be low impedance to match the low impedance of the center of the dipole. I would only use this for reception, but could also be used for transmitting if you use a tuner. Ive built these types of antennas for 10 meters all the way down to 6 mhz.

Hi all... I am new to the hobby and would love 10-20 frequencies I can tune into tonight to enjoy the fun and quirky side of these radios... My radio is the amazon ATS MINI V4 SI4732. Seems pretty cool. Any tips would be appreciated.

After months of repairing issue after issue and wanting to throw the towel in several times, I’m happy to say my Panasonic RF 2600 is finally working pretty well.

FCC notices shortwave station operating outside its parameters

Not intending to point fingers at a specific station here. However, the FCC noticed that a station was turning on early and operating with a wider bandwidth than allowed.

These issues involve a station operating above its licensed parameters, not underperforming (thankfully), which is the real challenge for these stations.

The FCC has been pretty quiet on the shortwave front, which is why this is notable.

B-26 season started Oct 25. I'm tracking what changes. Help me catch what moved?

The winter B-26 season runs Oct 25, 2026 to Mar 28, 2027. Europe changed its clocks on the 25th and the US follows Nov 1, so the next week is when schedules get shuffled, stations move frequencies, and some services don't come back.

I run a free site (no signup) that rebuilds from the EIBI schedule every night. I set up a season-change page that will list every station that moved, vanished or is new as soon as EIBI publishes the B-26 file, which hasn't happened yet. Until then it's a countdown and baseline, so I'm not going to pretend it has the changes already:
https://hqshortwaveradio.com/season-change/

In the meantime, real-world reports are more useful than any file. If you've noticed a station on a new frequency, a broadcast that moved an hour, or one that's gone, please post:
- Station and frequency (kHz)
- Time (UTC)
- Your location and receiver
- What changed

I'll fold the confirmed ones into a B-26 changes write-up this week and credit anyone who wants it.

What are you chasing this winter? Longer nights should open 49m, 41m and 31m for evening DX.

(I run the site, KM7FMJ. Mods, if links aren't allowed, I'll remove it.)

Discussion Most online KiwiSDR's are down

Anyone know why that is? I go to http://rx.linkfanel.net/ and most of them are down and lead to dead links. Some SDRs have dsappeared, and some new ones have appeared,, but they don't work either.

For someone who relies heavily on online SDRs these days for several reasons, it's made things a bit frusterating, so I've gone to ubersdr for the time being

B-26 winter season starts today: what's changed, and what are you hearing?

The A-26 season ended today. B-26 runs Oct 25, 2026 to Mar 28, 2027.

Quick rundown:

- Frequency changes: some broadcasters move to new channels for winter propagation

- Time shifts: Europe changed its clocks today and the US changes Nov 1, so many broadcasts move an hour in UTC and/or local time

- Band conditions: longer nights mean the lower bands (49m / 41m / 31m) carry evening DX; the higher bands close earlier

- Some services won't return this season

I'm tracking changes here as the new B-26 schedule data comes in. The page updates itself nightly: https://hqshortwaveradio.com/season-change/

What's on tonight in your area: https://hqshortwaveradio.com/tonight/

Weekly ask: post anything that moved, appeared, or went missing since last night, with frequency, time (UTC) and your location. I'll roll the confirmed ones into a B-26 changes article this week.

Discussion My Favorite Shortwave Listening Station Logger

Post image

This is the Mead Five Star 200 Sheets College Ruled Notebook, 5 1/2" x 3 1/2". "Lasts all year" guaranteed. Fights ink bleed, water resistant covers. I use it to log shortwave and medium wave station names or calls, frequencies, time/date UTC, language and sundry notes. 100% RFI-free. No computer, electric or internet hookup required and so ideal for listening in the field or home. I have purchased these for decades at Walmart and Safeway for about $5 a pop. I keep the old ones, too. Certified by Sustainable Forestry Initiative. Assembled in USA with US and foreign parts.

radio in australia?

Hey there, I'm very new to this hobby, like just a few days of research into it..
But I had some questions about it for myself, living in Australia.
Mostly, can you pick up any shortwave signals from down here in Australia? Is there much out there to listen too from here?
Just looking at youtube and such there isnt much content and information ive found just yet that has information outside of north america. Whether that makes it applicable or not in Australia I'm not sure?.
And what kind of beginner radio would you recommend, like under $100 range as I'm just starting out. Thanks for any help or advice!

Nothing on WRMI 9455 kHz

I just tried to tune in to 9455 as I do every Saturday night ahead of the IQ40. I can't get anything on 9455 at the moment. I switched antennas and walked around outside. Are they having an issue, or is this a problem on my end?

Thanks.

advice: 3.5mm external-antenna for XHDATA D-808

I read that the standard external antenna which is included in the radio performs not so very well. From that point am I looking for an external-antenna for especially shortwave. There are some wire-antenna alternatives with a clip to mount on the telescopic-antenna. Would it be worth to build an antenna myself or to buy a fabricated one?

Broadcast Announcement Shortwave broadcasters use seasonal schedules. The season is changing.

The new B26 shortwave season begins October 25, 2026 UTC. Most international shortwave broadcast stations will operate with new schedules that will reflect anticipated shortwave propagation changes for the next season. Most regional shortwave broadcasters will not change schedules for seasonal changes. Some broadcasters will make additional changes during the new season. Shortwave scheduling services like http://eibispace.de/ or https://short-wave.info/ may not show all of these schedule changes for several weeks. Keep in mind that most information available from shortwave schedule services are based on data from the open source eibispace database.
