I finally committed and brought this old Trek frame home from the shop I volunteer at, I’ve had my eye on It for over two years & so I finally pulled the trigger. It was too good a deal not to buy. It’s not everyday I see bikes that i like in my size come through the shop. This will be my first SS build. I have built lots of bikes, just never a SS. Any tips or tricks are appreciated. I need to find some stock forks as well, if anyone is holding any, please hit me up. I’m also having a hard time finding out the year, model, tubing type, and color of this frame. The Trek archives are all over the place, to put it mildly. Any Trek guys or girls out there that recognize this? Thank you. 🙏🏻

This frame and fork both have disc and canti mounts. I'm thinking disc brakes and canti post mounted front and rear racks for the commuter life. Joe Murray!!!

Most people probably forgot that Nashbar used to sell these things. I’ve been told they were made by SE Bikes. I’ve sure enjoyed mine for a lot of miles and smiles. I’ve made a couple of mild upgrades to it over the years as the situation warranted.

Hello cyclers! I'm from India and I'm looking to return to cycling after ages and now buying one feels like entering into a whole new universe. I've done my research for the past week or so to shortlist 2 cycles from a long list of 15 and chose to buy a simplest one, as my goal is to simply keep me physically active and build my stamina and endurance and not anything intense and also to keep the maintenance effort and cost as simple and cheap as possible. Not a hardcore cycler! 😅.
Now the list has come down to either one of these:
1. Stryder Street Fire SS
2. B'Twin My Bike
Spec-wise I'm ok with both as they're 95% similar apart from the few differences like the steel versus alloy rim, however, the problem for me is that, I'm not getting many valid real-time feedbacks and reviews for the Stryder to finalize and I kinda like both cycles and hence couldn't decide easily.
As far as I've heard, the My Bike is a "Work-horse" and as durable as any basic cycle gets. However, I personally have a feeling that Decathlon products are a little overrated and overpriced. The price difference here is ~1.5k - 1.6k. I am able to get the Stryder for around 4.8k via flipkart, whereas, the lowest for the my bike I could get my hands on is via Tata Cliq(Ironically😅) around 6.4k. Also the thing is, I might most probaly get the Stryder with the mudguard and the stand at this price, whereas for the btwin, I need to get those separately for which I've estimated the cost around ~500 (via third party) adding up the total cost up to ~7k.
Now keeping the spec-wise decision aside, I've finally arrived to you guys for a real-time usage experiencefeedback, to finalize and buy one. Please help me choosing based on your experiences with these cycles. Appreciate your support.
Note:
1. I strictly prefer single speed and rigid body for for low maintenance
2. I'm neither buying this for anything intense nor I'm a hardcore cyclist. I'm just getting one to stay active and therfore cannot increase my budget beyond this.
3. Most importantly, this discussion is about the pros and cons of these 2 mentioned cycles based on the real-time user experiences alone. Therefore, I kindly request you guys to not suggest any alternatives or ask me to increase my budget or wait for sometime to save money and buy a better one
Thanks.

Hey everyone! Kinda new to the single speed zone. I recently built my first single speed bike, starting from an old german commuter bike frame. I decided to call it "Helmut" as I want to believe that's what the german chad man that assembled the frame was called.
A very heavy and sturdy, thick steel frame. It was my old bike from when I was in university, almost 10 years ago (it was already old back then). It's been sitting in my basement for the past 5 years.
Bought new (used) wheels, a Miranda 44t crankset (which I love the look of), new BB, single speed conversion kit, handlebar and brake levers and a thick chain.
I initially installed 47-700 tires but with horizontal adjustments due to the chain length, the rear tire was scratching the dropouts. Handling was also a bit sketchy and floaty due to how big the tires were. I switched those tires with the ones on my gravel, a pair of 40-700 tires which fit perfectly. My gravel is also happy for the switch to thicker tires.
Almost everything on this bike is oversized and overkill for its use:
- Wheels have 13 Gauge (2.3mm) spokes, which are on the thicker side.
- As said, the frame is a heavy and thick walled german steel tube, not your usual chromoly. Good to plow the fields I reckon.
- Chain is a 1/8", thick single speed one, although both crankset and rear cog work with a standard 3/32".
What I plan to do next:
- Change the seat and seatpost, don't love the look.
- Replace quill stem with a modern, longer one.
- A pair of caliper brakes, these old ones are a hassle to setup and operate.
- Recondition and seal the frame paint, it's got some rust points and I figure some proper polishing might also help.
Runs smoothly, and given the fact I wasn't able to properly service the freehub, yet, you hear almost no ratchet noise ahaha Silent as an owl. Hopefully not as deadly.

Am currently trying to built a bike with a 8bar Xberg V8 frame(not ordered yet).
The frame can take up to 30mm tires and I d like to match that.
Anyone got a recommendation?
Only could find out the Tektro R359 fit that but cant find them in any online shop.
My 2nd option is the Miche Performance but they dont name any max. tire width.

Uno outcast. Replaced the pedals, had bike shop do a safety inspection.
They said it didnt have grease where there was supposed to be grease. All better now. Its my first single speed road bike.
It rides smooth, its solid. I chose the mid ratio of sprockets, i forget the teeth number. It does get going pretty quick when i put some muscle into it. Not disappointed by this purchase.
