He did a little wobbly bobbly dance yesterday 👀

Does anyone know why he's doing this?

I think it's super cute, but I'm a little worried that there might be something wrong with him. Especially since his left eye stem (our right) seems to be a little bent.

He's been behaving normally, I've seen him out of his shell twice since then and both times, there was no wobbling, but he was eating both times, so maybe he was focused on eating or something?

Since he seems fine otherwise, I don't think it's something serious, but if anyone knows why he is doing this, I'd appreciate it.

Otherwise just enjoy his little eye dance!

Update: I just checked on him and he seems to be sleeping, but outside of his shell. He's fully out, his right eye is just the little stem, but the left eye is completely out. I'm getting maybe a little bit worried now. I know that they sometimes do this and it can be normal, but combined with the wobbling and the bent eye, I'm a little unsure...

My Snails Hooman, my pool is empty!

Yes I did refill it!

This is CC (Car Crash, for long) my rescued snail! She's doing great, her setup gets regular upgrades as I get her settled in. This morning she wanted me to be aware that her "pool" is empty. This is the cover of a random bottle that I grabbed when I was mid-rescue. It's ~1.5 inches across, for scale. I guess that's the next thing I'm upgrading!

Click here to see my original post. Please read that before this one!

So he seems a little better. He was fully retracted earlier, but came out of his shell as soon as he felt something change.

I took this video a couple minutes ago. As you can see, there's still a little wobble going on, but not as badly as it was two days ago. I took another video like two minutes later where the wobble was pretty much gone, but unfortunately I can only post 1 video... In case there's a way around it, please share. I've got a couple other videos on this topic I'd like to share for more information.

So to sum it up, he's very active, but is able to retract fully. He still has a slight eye wobble, but not constantly (most of the time he seems fine).

I don't know if this is something I should be worried about or not...

I also have another snail that's been doing weird things.

I intended to add some videos of her in this post as well, but I can't so I'm just going to describe it.

These two are the only ones of my snails that don't have names yet, since they're still pretty young and I haven't found good names for them yet, so it's just gonna be "he" and "she" for now.

These past 2-3 days, I've noticed that she's been moving significantly slower. When she moves, it literally looks like she's moving in slow motion. Like a cartoon snail or something.

This might sound like a silly thing to worry about, but she was moving normally before, and now it's been a couple of days where, every time I saw her move, it was ridiculously slow. If she moves at all...

She's also been doing a lot of "freezing". She's fully out and looks completely normal, like she's just crawling around, except she's not...

I've watched her sit like that a couple of times in the last few days. She's always completely out and looking like she's being active, sometimes her head is even in the air and it looks like she's looking around, but then she doesn't actually look around and just stays in that position completely still. Sometimes for several minutes. It's actually kinda creepy.

When I poke her, she does retract, although I haven't seen her fully retract yet, since I didn't want to bother her too much.

Since both of these started around the same time, I'm actually a little worried now, that there is something bigger going on... Or I just have two very weird snails, I don't know.

Does anyone know about snail health and can tell me if this could be signs of something being wrong?

I just checked on the snails again, and I noticed one of the babys also doing a weird eye bending. Not wobbling, just bending, like they sometimes do when the humidity is too high or something, but only with one eye. That made me think of another snail that did a similar thing with both his eyes going in two completely different directions, but he was mating at the time, and I thought he was just making a funny mating face or something.

All of these things combined kinda make me think that there's actually something wrong... But I have no clue what!

The temperature is around 20°c and the humidity varies between 45-60%. Most of the time it's around 50%.

I feed them regularly with zucchini and sweet potato, and every now and then they get some protein (I make a protein mix with mealworms, shrimps, pea flakes and algae. I crush all of them into a powder and then mix it with water when I feed it to the snails) and nothing has changed in their enclosure.

The only thing I can think of right now, what could maybe be a problem, is that I sometimes have the heater on in my room, and sometimes I don't, so maybe there's sudden temperature changes? But the heater is all the way on the other side of my room, so I didn't think that the temperature changed as much for them. I'll check that later once my room has heated back up.

Any help and ideas would be greatly appreciated!

I saw it on the front yard and thought it is a Siamese land snail but then I saw the operculum attached to the foot. And I was like whattt??
I saw it on the ground crossing paths, not near the water source.
I have also searched it on goggle but it keeps saying it is a Siamese land snail but they don’t have an operculum like the one I have.
What is this fella??
edit* it is a temporary set up! I am not torturing it

So two days ago I bought a few aquatic plants that came in a cup that were submerged underwater at my local pet store. I got home and started setting up my tank. As I pulled the plants out of the pastic cups, I noticed a few pebbles being stuck between the gaps on the cups. I made sure to remove these "pebbles" that were also stuck on the rockwool before I planted the aquatic plants to avoid transferring unknown creatures into the tank.

Today I did some checks on the parameters and overall condition of the tank and I noticed a moving pebble on one of the stones and turned out to be a tiny snail.

I don't know if this species is okay to have in my tank. I plan on getting a snail in the future once my tank is fully cycled. I'm not sure whether to keep this or not, I just don't want any parasite in the tank or anything that will cause any harm in my tank.

Does anybody know what this one is?

Fungus Gnat control for Polygyrid snails

Post image
5 Upvotes

My neohelix and mesodon snail tanks both have severe fungus gnat infestation. Its all naturalistic and the snails actually eat the fungus and natural decay as well as veg swap daily. I was about to get them a massive 20 gallon to cohabitate in but now I may have to remove them altogether if I cant fix the gnats.

Anyone know if the only way to (based on my research) control this is to risk using Summit chemical's mosquito bits (BTI) in their water sprayer?

Picture is one of my many woodland critters :). Any help and experience would be useful other than sticky pads or katchy.

Help Parasitic Mites!

Hi all,

My little snail, Pudding, has mites! Last night I noticed movement on their shell and around the area of their breathing hole, and upon shining my flashlight on them I saw that they looked like tiny white bugs. I've done a bit of research, and I am certain these are the parasitic ones that live in their lung/breathing hole.

I have since gave Pudding a 'bath', washed out their enclosure, and thrown out everything that was in it. Pudding is currently in a smaller enclosure with damp paper towels, washed lettuce, and a tiny bowl of water (too small for them to drown in).

I just checked in on them and noticed that the mites are still there, which I did expect. I read that one of the best ways to get rid of these parasitic mites is to introduce predatory mites to cannibalise them. Other than this, is there any other way of getting rid of them?

Also, does anyone know how Pudding might have gotten these mites? I found them climbing into my house via an open window two months ago, and I had never noticed them before. I check on Pudding every day to mist and feed them, so I feel like I would have seen the mites had they had them from the start? I did get lazy the past couple of days and opted not to wash their veggies. Do you think that might be how they got mites?

I'm in the UK.

Thank you in advance for any advice!

Help How can I help my snail with a small mantle tear?

Thumbnail
gallery
3 Upvotes

Tell me if I should put NSFW on this!

My snail with weird shell had a small mantle tear. I don't know how it happened, but some people told me that her shell might have grown like that because she had a mantle tear before too, it only wasn't visible.

I know that this is something that can heal on its own, but I want to know what can I do to make her more comfortable. I gave her this piece of cucumber to test if she's going to eat and she did! So that's good I guess. She can move around and climb, she only does it more slowly.

I don't understand why she's getting mantle tears. I never pick her up, if I need to take her out of her enclosure, I offer her my finger and let her crawl onto it. I offer her a variety of food, I'm careful when I clean, I just don't understand what happened. I feel like I did something awful and hurt my baby. I've never had these issues before so if anyone has any advice how to prevent this from happening again, I'm all ears.

Found them danging from LID by one of their tails and gently extracted them so my idiot sons don’t kill themselves.

Good news is I found a freak of a snail (had never heard of decollate snails before) so we’ll be giving everyone some snomelettes 😭.
