Should I return my Subaru

Well I had been wanting to make the switch to Subaru for about a year.

Finally pulled the trigger and picked up a 2019 Subaru Forester with 52k miles from Carvana and loved it right away.

Well I was driving tonight and had a bunch of errors start popping up.

Has anyone had an issue like this before?

I am taking it to a shop tomorrow but want to know if I should return it with my 7 day window.

Any advice is appreciated!

2018 manual transmission center differential question

• Upvotes

How many times can you replace the viscous coupling fluid? I did this the first time in February 2025, and I'm getting the torque bind noises again. Should I just bite the $500 bullet? Or try to find part numbers for the o-rings in there etc. because I don't think I can get away with pulling it apart again without replacing those.

Clunking noise front right of 2017 Forrester…

There is a slight clunking as we drive for the first 30 seconds to maybe a couple of minutes then it seems to stop. Like things heat up or settle into place. It’s only on the front right side.

We already paid for cv axles to no avail. Any ideas what could be failing there?

Help me make a decision on a low millage Forester.

• Upvotes

I’m looking at a 24’ Forster Wilderness with 20k miles in silver and one in autumn green. They are priced around $28k before fees. Love how it looks and drives. Worried about gas millage since 70% of my driving is in a city and populated suburb.

the other one is a 26’ sport(CPO) in the dark gray that was a service loaner. I’ll have the car for ten years and not sure about the colot combo. really great price at $32,500 OTD and only 5k miles. the sticker price was almost $40k with options.

Last one is a service loaner CPO Premium in River Rock which I love the color. I volunteer in dog rescue so cloth interior feels like the dog hair would just stick to everything. It’s $30k and has no factory add ons.

if the millage was a non factor I would get the Wilderness. Nothing i would change. Idk how it will hold its value vs the redesign though. I’ve really warmed up to the new body style. Also don’t know if the new redesign is a meaningful upgrade?!?

any help or advice would be welcomed. Wish I could justify the hybrid.

Major problems with CarPlay

• Upvotes

I cannot get my CarPlay to work. I went through numerous troubleshooting recommendations and nothing is working. There seems to be some kind of an odd connection to my iPhone. For example, if I try to send a voice text, the screen makes it look like I’m trying to make a call from my iPhone. On Sunday, I could not get any volume from the radio. It was not muted. When I started the car on Monday, I was able to get radio volume. something very strange is happening. I’ve turned the car off and on, I have forgotten the Forrester connection and then re-repaired with it, I’ve turned my phone off and on…. Can’t get anywhere. I’m hoping to avoid taking it into the shop. Any help would be much appreciated!!!

Rust protecting undercarriage

• Upvotes

2023 Subaru Forester in New England so road salt is an issue. Very little rust so far. What have you used and what are the pros and cons? I was considering using Fluid Film but I'm worried about the smell lingering inside the vehicle. Thanks for your advice.

Owners price is $3000

I’m desperate and yes make fun of me all you want in the comments, I’m just new to all this

Charger vs “maintainer”

I recently bought a 2025 Subaru Forster with 977 miles at dealership. I love it so much! The only issue electronically is that the charger doesn’t work. When I bought it, the guy I test drove with called it a charger. After I got it home and realized the charger only charges for a few seconds before stopping I brought it back to the dealership and they said it’s only a “maintainer” meaning it’s only supposed to maintain current battery level. But it doesn’t even do that. I have full warranty. Is this something anyone else has come across?

Looking at a 2020 Forester Sport. Worth it even with potential future issues?

Local dealer has a 2020 Forester Sport with 35k miles for a good price compared to national average. Test drove it the other day and we like it. Clean CarFax and all of that but the main thing holding us back from making an offer are things like the probability that the TCV will fail eventually and talk about the windshield cracking easily and interior wearing down more than other cars over timem etc. Are these valid concerns that should point us towards looking at more expensive but newer year models or unjustified cold feet at this point?

Ive never had a new car, every car I've ever had has been an old beater. My 2015 honda civic with almost 300k miles was finally going downhill and after teat driving so many options and researching for a year, I finally pulled the trigger on this beauty. I got a phenomenal deal and couldn't be happier. Honestly it feels like a space ship 😂👹

I’m torn between a 2026 Forester Wilderness with 16,000 miles for 36k OTD or a 24 Forester Wilderness with 80,000 miles for 25k

I may be joining the Forester family.

I've had my CR-V for 8 years and it's currently sitting at over 200k miles. The car still drives, however I'm starting to notice little things here and there. Anyways, I've been searching cars for a couple of months and I saw a 2020 Subara Forester Limited to looks really nice. I'm excited to be test driving it tomorrow and wanted to know what I should look out for?

Front camera

Has anyone installed a front camera in the grill on a 2019 Forrester? I go mild off Roading, but it’ll be extremely beneficial to see clearance in those blind spots.

Is it me, or, do they not fit? Doesn’t seem to matter which way I move them.

Edit: Well then! I sort of feel better finding out they don’t fit. What’s up with that? If you all can post links to products (Sport, with Harmon Kardon) I’d appreciate it!

1,000 km through Brazil’s Canastra region, camping in my Forester 🇧🇷

Took my 2009 Forester on a trip to Serra da Canastra: around 1,000 km in total, including roughly 280 km of trails and dirt roads. I also slept in the car for part of the trip!
For those unfamiliar with the area, it’s in Minas Gerais, southeastern Brazil, with waterfalls, rolling hills, wide-open landscapes, and small rural towns connected by dirt roads. The region is also famous for its traditional Canastra cheese.
We explored around São João Batista do Glória, taking in the scenery and enjoying the trails. Having the Subaru double as transportation and a bedroom made the trip even better!

Do you use voice commands on 25/26 Forester?

how well do voice commands work on the Forester while driving for settings like turning on the defogger or stuff like that?

(Coming from an old analog car, I am still on the fence)

2026 QOL accessories? [Canada]

I'm trying to find two things: window rain guards (or deflectors or whatever they're called) and side door molding, the strip that goes horizontally across the doors to help prevent other people dinging your car.

I'm also looking for a hood deflector, but I've heard these are touch and go because they can interfere with the Eyesight tech.

If anyone has found these in Canada, could you drop a link and/or price? Not interested in buying from Amazon, I've looked at what is available and it's a no for me. Thank you!

What's an accessory or QOL thing you picked up that improves your daily drive?

2021 Forester Sport snow tire reccomendations?

I’m planning on upgrading to some snow tires for the winter season as I will be doing some driving along the passes here in the PNW.

I have no clue where to start. Was planning on getting another set of wheels to make the swap easier. Should I be sizing down or keeping the same size? Looked primarily at the Blizzak snow tires, I don’t think I’ll need studs.

Current wheel setup is 225/55/18 Falken wildpeak AT Trail.

Made an early run to Walmart yesterday to grab a few things. I have a preference for parking next to the islands in the lot, and with it being early, I was kinda parked out alone from other cars. Came out, and the lot was still fairly sparse, but it seems my Forester Wilderness had found himself an Outback Wilderness to hang out with. I think it was intentional, because they definitely could have parked closer to the door if they had wanted. Couldn’t help but snap a pic of them hanging out together.
