Seeking individuals for Día de los Muertos photo essay
Hello!
I'm a graduate student photojournalist currently working on a photo essay about the various ways people honor their ancestors on Día de los Muertos and the days preceding. I'm looking for people of all ages around Sunset Park who would be open to being photographed and sharing a bit about their altars and celebrations with me.
We will of course make time to chat beforehand, but for a bit more context, here are some examples of potential shots:
- you/your loved ones at an altar you've created
- you holding an ancestral/family object that means a great deal to you
- an intimate family gathering, etc
Please note I'm not looking for large community gatherings/parades/festivals (I did attend yesterday's parade on 5th Ave though!) so please only reach out if you'd be open to your personal altar or celebration being photographed.
I myself am Mexican-American and celebrate in my own way, so rest assured your space and celebrations are very sacred to me and will be photographed with the utmost care.
Please DM me with any questions. Thank you!
