Advice and guidance needed!
Hi there,
My mum is offering part of her land in Queensland for my family to build a small home without needing to subdivide their land.
My question is, what should I be looking for? A removable Queenslander, a demountable home or a kit home?
It will be my partner, myself and our son. Possibly my MIL but she is happy to live in a caravan if necessary. The goal is to have an affordable living option for us to save money and to afford the cost of living.
They have also offered this to my brother and sister so hoping we will all be able to live in our own homes on the same block. Is this possible?
I’d love advice and guidance. Even better if you’ve done something similar! Thank you

Feedback request for Tiny House Planning Calculator in development
Hey everyone, I have been working for months on this tiny house planning tool to help people who maybe have just been daydreaming about a DIY Tiny House actually get into the stage of designing a structure that inspires them to build it in reality... It’s totally free, no paywall—we just released it to the public (totally free to use, no paywall) and I wanted to share it here for some feedback on the tool-- curious if there are features I haven't thought of that would be useful to add as I build out the feature set going forward. I think it's pretty solid but I've no doubt someone here will find a bug or problem I need to fix, too-- so please check it out and let me know what you think!
We really want it to be beginner-friendly but also pretty comprehensive in terms of helping folks get a realistic idea of what to budget for, where they might be able to save money if they make adjustments to their vision, and have a better understanding of what to plan for before they make any big costly mistakes...
https://tinyhouseplanner.wildabundance.net/
Attaching a screenshot. I have put some basic defaults where you can't have 'none' as an option, but as soon as you start customizing your selections the totals adjust in real time on the side panel so you can see how each choice affects the totals.
One idea I was particularly excited about is that when you send yourself the estimate via email it attaches a printable floorplan (with grid lines to scale) so people can sketch out how they'd arrange their desired furniture in a given space and then realize 'oh gosh, i really need it to be 2 feet longer to fit everything i want to have in the main space' or whatnot, and the tool saves your design so you can reload and edit it the next time you log in. As someone who's sketched endless iterations on graph paper I think this could save people significant time.

Please, whether you're a builder or a DIY enthusiast or someone who's tiny-house-curious, I'd love for some people to give it a try and let me know what you think...I will say I'd appreciate it if you can be kind, I have worked really hard and tried to think of everything but I'm sure there are still things I can improve and y'all are probably the perfect people to take it for a spin and give feedback.

Trying to decide if a tiny home is feasible for me?
I live with my parents in the south.
My job pays 4k per month and i started it 2 months ago.
My parents home is small and really there is not enough room for me to meal prep and live comfortably there. My original plan had been to live with them two more years and save quite a bit then leave. But i can see that is not going to be possible.
Option 1 is get an apartment. But i can't save as much plus I will not have a yard. I grew up in the country with animals and a yard. Living in a box in the city would drive me nuts.
The second option is to do a tiny home shed conversion. I need to finish researching the total cost of that.
There is an additional caveat as well. I intend to move out of state in 2 years. Which is why i am not sure if I should do a tiny home. But when i think about it the money I would spend on rent and utilities ( about 1500) could just be spent getting that done.
Has anyone ever faced a similar dilemma? Or was a bit premature posting this here before providing numbers.
I understand everything that goes into buying land and getting a site ready. I've wanted a tiny home for years and did a lot of research. I just never had enough cash to get it done, and I knew I wanted to move out of state
Edit: my parents are willing to let me live with them and prefer it. I recognize this is a golden opportunity to save a lot of money and learn to invest.

500 sq ft + loft
galleryMy tiny home is finally coming along. I have about 3 weeks to finish insulation, drywall, paint, flooring, cabinets, and bathroom before I’m forced to move out of my 3 bdrm home I’ve been in for the past 7 years. There’s no plan B, it has to be done.

Question Electrical-
I originally had a 30amp generator transfer switch for my solar system hooked up and that worked for what I needed to have running. but now I have the opportunity to plug into an rv outlet. I am unsure if I can use the inlet on the 30amp transfer switch or should I put in a new inlet?

Fixed Tiny Home Dugouts
Has anyone tried or thought about a dugout? There have been a number of historical periods in various places around the world where people successfully lived in dugouts. I feel like the biggest reason people aren't living in dugouts today is because of legal restrictions and group think.

The road being there doesn’t mean you’re allowed to use it.
A road can run right up to the property line and you can still have no recorded right to drive on it.
Physical access means a road exists. Legal access means something recorded says you may use it. Those don’t always come together.
What I’d actually check:
Whether the easement is recorded, or just something the seller describes on the phone. Recorded means it’s in county records with a book and page you can pull up yourself.
Whether it runs all the way to your parcel or stops at a neighbor’s line and leaves a gap.
Whether anyone along it is allowed to gate it, and whether that’s written down anywhere.
Who’s obligated to maintain it. An easement nobody has to maintain is a road that eventually stops being one.
A county-maintained road touching the parcel is the clean version. Everything else is worth reading before you wire money.
One tell: if a title company won’t insure access, that’s them telling you about something they already looked into.
Disclosure since it comes up: I do land due diligence for a living, so I have a commercial interest in people caring about this. I use AI to help me write these up. The records and statutes I pull and verify myself, that part is the job. Happy to answer access questions in the comments.

Sharing Personal Experience Is a Wall-Mounted Heat Pump / AC Worth Considering?

Question How do you keep your tiny home comfortable when cooking?
I had a mini split installed in my roughly 260 sq ft tiny home last year, and it’s been working great so far. In the winter, 68°F feels just right when I’m home alone. But when I have people over or spend time cooking or baking, the temperature inside can rise pretty quickly.
I end up turning the heat down or shutting it off for a while. I have to adjust the AC when I cook in the summer too, but it’s much more noticeable in the winter when the heat is running.
For those of you living in tiny homes, does this happen to you too? Is it just something that comes with living in a small space, or could it be an issue with my costway mini split? Have you found anything that helps keep the temperature more stable?
