Exchange couple probably arriving Jan 2027 in Uppsala University.
Hi! My girlfriend and I are coming to Uppsala as exchange students for spring 2027 (January to early June). We’re from Brazil. I’ll be at Business Studies and she’ll be at the Faculty of Law. We’ve read all the official pages, but I’d rather hear from people who actually live there.
Work (the big one)
She has an EU passport, so no work restrictions. She’s hoping to find something paid by the hour in a café, shop or restaurant. Her English is good, but she has no Swedish yet (she’ll take Basic Swedish 1 during the semester).
- How realistic is that in Uppsala without Swedish? What worked for you: handing in CVs in person, the nations, LinkedIn, Arbetsförmedlingen?
- How long did your samordningsnummer and bank account take? Could you start working before you had them?
- I’m non-EU and limited to 15 hours a week. Is Foodora still worth it in Uppsala in the winter, or are there way too many couriers?
Study routine
Officially our courses say it’s 40 hours a week for each one of us, but the timetables I’ve seen show maybe 3 or 4 hours of class. So:
- How many hours a week did you really spend on a 15-credit course, counting reading and group work?
- How strict are they about attendance at seminars? What happens if you miss one?
- Law people: is the workload very different from Business?
Honest answers are welcome!
